The Savanna class continues to fall in love with their Unit of Inquiry (UOI). It is a joy to witness how our young inquirers engage with their inquiry unit. While they may not be familiar with the term “IB,” they certainly understand “UOI.” Every day, they practice being inquirers to acquire knowledge, be thinkers and develop new ideas, share their opinions, and be good communicators. They are also willing to try new things and embrace being risk-takers.
サバンナクラスの子どもたちは、探究の単元（UOI）にどんどん夢中になっています。私たちは、子どもたちがこの探究の単元に取り組む姿を目にするたびに喜びを感じています。子どもたちはまだ「IB」という言葉にはなじみがないかもしれませんが、「UOI」という言葉はしっかりと理解しています。毎日、知識を得るために探究者として学び、新しいアイデアを考えるシンカーとなり、自分の意見を伝えたり、良いコミュニケーターになることを実践しています。そして、新しいことにも挑戦し、リスクテイカーとなることもいといません。
We couldn’t be prouder of the progress they have made from Canyon to Savanna. This is just the beginning, and we are all excited to see them continue to be more curious inquirers and learn about the world and beyond.
Our class has begun exploring CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, which are three-letter words like “bat,” “leg,” and “kit.” The students are enthusiastic about learning to read, and their strong engagement during phonics lessons reflects their passion for discovering new things.
サバンナクラスへ進級してからの彼らの成長ぶりに、私たちも誇らしい気持ちでいっぱいです。これはまだ始まりにすぎません。これからも子どもたちが、より好奇心旺盛な探究者として成長し、世界やその先について学んでいく姿を見るのが楽しみです。
私たちのクラスでは、CVC（子音・母音・子音）からなる3文字の単語、例えば “bat”（こうもり）、”leg”（あし）、”kit”（キット）などの学習を始めました。子どもたちは読み方を学ぶことにとても意欲的で、フォニックスの時間をとても楽しみにしています。新しい発見への情熱が伝わってきます！
Before we went to the Alps Park for our field trip, the whole class was introduced to a character named Theo. Theo is similar to Detective Conan; he is curious and always loves to think. After learning about Theo’s interests, our Savanna students reflected on whether they could also be like him, especially since they were going to a vast park with many things to explore and ponder.
On the bus, some students expressed their intentions by saying, “I’m going to be a thinker,” and they began asking numerous questions, such as, “What is this?” and “Why is this big or small?” When we arrived at the park, this curiosity came to life. Some kids were asking questions like, “What is that sound, I wonder?” “Why does it smell bad?” and “Can I catch a butterfly? Am I fast enough?”
バストリップでアルプス公園へ行く前に、「テオ」というキャラクターが出てくる絵本を見ました。テオは名探偵コナンのような存在で、好奇心旺盛で考えることが大好き。読み終わった後、自分たちもテオのようになれるかどうか考えてみました。たくさんの不思議と発見が待っている大きな公園への遠足の前日だったので、より一層その思いが強まったようです。
バスの中では、「ぼくはシンカーになるよ！」と意気込む子もいて、「これなに？」「なんでこれ大きいの？小さいの？」といったたくさんの質問が飛び交い始めました。公園に到着すると好奇心はさらに高まり、「あの音、なんだろう？」「なんでくさいにおいがするの？」「ちょうちょつかまえられるかな？ぼく速いかな？」など、子どもたちは目にするもの、耳にするもの、感じるものすべてに疑問を持ち、探究心を爆発させていました。
Fostering this inquisitive mindset and noticing it in small ways could help our students enjoy their inquiry more and benefit in both the present and the future.
