We were on a mission! Walk till you spot… ! With our sharp eyes, we ticked off the minibeasts we spotted in our nature walk checklist. It was our lucky day. Dragonflies, countless ants, ladybugs, beetles, spiders and… an Asian longhorn beetle flew past us too! Not forgetting the pesky mosquitoes… no, we could not see them but YES, we felt their kisses.
サバンナさんにはminibeastsを見つけるというミッションがあります！あちこちをじっくり観察しながら、虫を見つけてはリストにチェックしていくサバンナさん。虫探しにはぴったりな日で、トンボ、たくさんのアリやテントウムシ、カブトムシ、クモ、アジアオオグソクムシまで発見することができましたよ！蚊にも刺されてしまいましたが、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。
Back in class, we played Bingo Bugs game and made origami ladybugs. We found out that ladybugs come in 2 spots, 7 spots, 10 spots and more! Their hard wings cover their soft back wings that are used for flying. In the IB curriculum, one of the approaches to learning is Research Skills. How do we search and find out about things? Savanna gave some good answers… find out from books, from my mummy and daddy. Facts and information can be gathered from the internet websites too, from your experiences and through our observations of the real world.
クラスに戻ってから、虫についてビンゴゲームをしたり、折り紙でてんとう虫を作ったりしました。てんとう虫には、2つの斑点、7つの斑点、10個の斑点があることを学びました。また、てんとう虫の羽は二種類あり、硬い羽根が飛ぶために必要な柔らかい背中の羽を覆っている事も知る事ができました。IBのカリキュラムでは、学習のアプローチのひとつに「リサーチ・スキル」があります。知りたい事があった時、どんな風に調べたらいい？と先生が質問すると、「本で調べる」「パパやママに聞く」などの意見が出ました。インターネットや自分の経験からも事実や情報を得る事ができますね。
Beetles are our first focus of study – ladybugs, stag beetles, longhorn beetles, rhinoeros beetles are the class favourites. We know that an insect like the beetle has 3 body parts. Savanna practised saying these rather difficult words – head, thorax, abdomen. Upon close study, we saw that all 6 legs come from the insect’s thorax – like Rhino our pet rhinoceros beetle!
Each student selected a beetle they liked. On our activity sheet, the name of the beetle was circled. We observed drawings, photographs and drew the beetles as accurately as we could – 1 head, 1 thorax, 1 abdomen, 2 jaws, 2 feelers, wings.
子ども達に人気なのは、テントウムシ、クワガタ、カブトムシですが、特にカブトムシは大人気！カブトムシを始めとする昆虫の体は3つのに分かれています。サバンナさんは、頭部(head)、胸部(thorax)、腹部(abdomen)というとても難しい言葉を勉強しました。よく観察してみると、6本の脚はすべて昆虫の胸部から生えていることも知る事ができました。
いろんな種類のカブトムシの中からそれぞれ好きなものを選び、アクティビティ・シートにカブトムシの名前を丸で囲んだ後、イラストや写真をしっかりと観察しながらできるだけ正確に描きました。
The book “The Grouchy Ladybug” is on the top of our reading list, including the beautifully illustrated non-fiction book “Ladybugs” by Gail Gibbons. We love this song too, an old favourite from Sesame Street “Ladybugs Picnic”. We learned our numbers and groupings with this song – 1, 2, 3… 4, 5, 6.. We have been marching to the song “The Ants Go Marching”. The ants march one by one, then two by two and we all laugh at what the Little One does. We marched too and learned our skip counting by two – 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 Savanna students! Enjoy the songs. Till next Monday, have a great weekend!
ゲイル・ギボンズの美しいイラストで描かれた『てんとうむし』も含め、『The Grouchy Ladybug（不機嫌なてんとうむし）』はサバンナさんが大好きな本のツートップです。セサミストリートでよく流れている「Ladybugs Picnic 」や「The Ants Go Marching 」という愉快な歌に合わせて、「1、2、3…」「4、5、6…」と行進するのも大好きなサバンナさん。この歌では、アリが1匹ずつ行進した後、2匹ずつ行進するのですが、私たちも、2、4、6、8、10、12、14と2つずつ数えながらスキップしてみました！どうぞ、こちらの歌をお楽しみくださいね。来週の月曜日まで、よい週末を！
