Everyone is back and well rested after the long weekend and thank you for coming to Sport’s Day Festival! Students from Waterfall class did their very best and showed off their art, athletic skills and their dance moves with pride!
三連休が終わり、元気いっぱい登園してくれてありがとうございます。そして、先日はISNスポーツフェスティバルにお越しいただき本当にありがとうございました！Waterfallクラスの子どもたちは力を出して、かけっこや玉入れ、そしてダンスを一生懸命に披露してくれました。本当にがんばったね！
This week, Waterfall students remembered to appreciate cows, bees, sheep, chickens and some of the many animals that are helpful, and give us products to eat, drink and more! To review some of the ways that animals help us in our daily lives students watched as Ms. Mariko cooked chicken eggs for lunch! Some little inquirers even wanted to know why the eggs changed color and texture when cooked! Everyone was curious, excited and thought that the eggs were tasty!
今週は、牛やハチ、羊、ニワトリなど、わたしたちの生活を助けてくれる動物たちに感謝の気持ちをもつことを振り返りました。保育士がみんなの前で卵を割ってホットプレートで焼き始めると、子どもたちは「どうして卵は焼くと色や形が変わるの？」と不思議そう。好奇心いっぱいで、ワクワクしながら観察していました。食べてみると「おいしい！」と笑顔も広がりました。
Waterfall students are always happy to share, explore and inquire about animals no matter where they are, during play time or Show and Tell! We went outside to play in the mud and take notice of what the wildlife has to show us. The student found all sorts of plants and insects!
Waterfallのみんなは、遊びの時間もShow and Tellの時間も、動物たちのことを考えたり探究したりするのが大好き！外に出て泥んこ遊びをしながら、身近な植物や虫たちにもたくさん出会いました。
Next, we asked the Waterfall students if it is still a hot summer and they said no! And, they said that they do not see as many flowers or insects since it has cooled off. In fact it will soon be cold! We asked them what some animals eat when it is fall and all the flowers and leaves are gone. They watched a video to learn that some animals need to look for food when it is cold, especially birds. Students worked together to paint cartons to help birds during the winter!
そして「まだ夏は暑いかな？」と聞くと、「もう違う！」と元気いっぱいに答える子どもたち。花や虫が少なくなってきて、季節が秋へと移り変わっていることに気づきました。「寒くなると動物たちは何を食べるのかな？」と考え、特に鳥たちは冬に食べ物を探すのが大変なことを映像で学びました。そこで、子どもたちは力を合わせて牛乳パックに絵を描き、鳥たちのための「フィーダー」を作ることにしました。
Then they filled the beautiful cartons with bird seeds and rice stalks to make it a little easier for the birds to find food and build nests in the colder months. We hung them up outside of the Waterfall classroom window so that students can now observe this fall and winter some ways that people can help animals!
できあがった「フィーダー」にエサや稲の穂を入れ、寒い季節でも少しでも食べ物や巣作りの材料が見つけやすいように工夫しました。完成した作品は教室の窓の外に飾り、これから秋から冬にかけて、鳥たちがどのように助けられていくかを観察できるようにしました。鳥たちが来てくれますように！
