Plants are healthy, beautiful and a fun way to learn how to be caring and balanced. Waterfall students have been carefully watering and checking on their tomato plants in the garden.They noticed that some of the tomato seeds that they planted are growing alongside the bigger plants. They also got to plant more seeds that all look very different and they tried guessing what might grow. Students also made signs for the Waterfall Garden boxes. It is now beautifully decorated with pictures of tomatoes and butterflies!
Curiosity for the other plants around the school has been growing as well! It is especially exciting for them to see lots of blooming flowers, and some Mulberries in the garden!  Waterfall inquirers are starting to ask questions about different plants, like weeds, flowers, and fruit like “Is it tomato?” They are curious and cannot wait to find out what is going to grow next.

植物は健康で美しく、そして思いやりやバランスのとれた生き方を学べます。Waterfallの子どもたちは、お庭のトマトの苗に毎日優しく水をあげたり、「大きくなったかな？」と成長の様子を見たりしています。

最近では、苗で植えたトマトの横に、前にまいた種が芽を出しているのを見つけて、みんな大喜び！ほかにも、形や大きさが違ういろいろな種もまいたので、「これから何が育つのかな？」とわくわくしています。

それから、プランターに立てるかわいい看板も作りました！トマトやちょうちょの絵が描かれていて、お庭がにぎやかになりました♪

最近は、園庭で育つほかの植物にも興味しんしん。シロツメクサや黄色い小さなのお花が咲き、マルベリー（桑の実）ががなっているのを見るのことにわくわく。お花を摘んだり、桑の実やお花で砂のケーキを飾りつけることも好きです。

Waterfallの小さな探求者は「これ、トマトかな？」「なんの実かな？」と、いろんな植物に目を向けている子どもたちです。これからどんな植物が育っていくのか、みんなで楽しみにしています！

For the UOI this week Waterfall learned more about “Who We Are” by learning about many different fruits and vegetables that they eat or have not eaten, but open-minded to try. Students said which fruits and vegetables they like or don’t like. It all looks and tastes different. After we asked, “What do you like,” the students chose their favorite fruit or vegetables. They talked about the color of their favorite fruit or vegetables and then got to color the one that they chose. At lunch students are happily announcing what we will eat each day-“It’s rice, fish and vegetables.” They are being risk takers and trying new food.  

「Who We Are？」というテーマのもと、子どもたちはいろいろな果物や野菜についてもっと学びました。食べたことのあるものや、まだ食べたことはないけれど「食べてみる！」と話してくれる姿もあり、とてもオープンな気持ちで取り組んでいました。

「すきなくだものややさいはなに？」とたずねると、それぞれ自分のすき・きらいを教えてくれました。見た目や味がちがうことも、みんなで楽しく知ることができました。

お気に入りのくだものややさいを選んだあと、その色について話し、最後に選んだものをぬりえで表現しました。

ランチタイムは、「Rice, Fish and Vegetables！」とうれしそうにメニューを発表する子もいます。「好きじゃ無いけど食べる！」「家で食べたことないけど食べてみる」など、いろいろな味を楽しんでいる子どもたちです。

Students did the Alphabet Dance with jumping and stretching to get ready for a sorting race. They raced to check in which category to place several items, fruit or vegetables and different letters! Everything started with A or B sounds. They are listening nicely and hearing the different beginning sounds very well. Waterfall also shows that they are open-minded to differences and change by helping each other match the correct sound and letter-“Wait, it’s B!” They are having meaningful discussions to solve problems!

子どもたちは「Alphabet Dance」をしながら、ジャンプやストレッチをして体を動かし、つぎの活動の準備をしました。そのあとは、「くだもの」「やさい」「乗り物」などをそれぞれ頭文字で仕分けする、Sorting raceにチャレンジしました。

使ったことばは「A」や「B」ではじまるものばかり。みんなよく聴いて、はじまりの音を聞き分けていました。子どもたちは、ちがいや変化を楽しみながら受け入れるオープンマインドな姿も見せてくれています。おともだちと声をかけ合って、「あっ、Bの音だよ！」と教えあう場面もありました！

After reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” again Waterfall students played Hungry Caterpillar Musical Chairs to practice saying how they feel- How are you? I’m happy, I’m hungry, I’m sleepy… how will I feel next?

『はらぺこあおむし』の絵本をもう一度読んだあと、「はらぺこあおむしのMusical Chairs（いすとりゲーム）」をして遊びました！

ゲームの中で、「How are you?（ごきげんいかが？）」のやりとりを楽しみながら、「I’m happy」「I’m hungry」「I’m sleepy」など、自分の気持ちを英語で伝える練習をしました。「つぎはどんな気持ちになるかな？」と、いろんな気持ちを楽しみながら遊ぶことができました。

Students where happy to choose different feelings to match how they felt on the day!

Dancing and learning about a lot of fruit and vegetables was very tiring, so Waterfall watched the caterpillars take a nap- I’m sleepy. Waterfall has been excited to see what would happen after the caterpillar’s long nap time.

その日の気分に合わせて、いろいろな「きもち」を選ぶことができて、子どもたちはとても楽しそうでした！たくさんおどって、くだものややさいのことをいっぱい学んだあとは、ちょっとつかれてしまったようです。そんなときは、あおむしたちがおひるねをする様子を見ながら、「I’m sleepy（ねむい）」の気持ちを感じていました。

そして、あおむしは長いおひるねの後、どうなるのでしょう・・・・？

Oh wow, they all changed into butterflies and now they can fly!

あおむしはちょうちょになって、飛べるようになりました♪
