Learning About the 3Rs
This week in our UOI, we began learning about the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The students explored different ways we can deal with waste and started to think about how our daily actions can help care for the Earth. This connects to our central idea that our choices can help protect the planet .
We used real objects such as plastic bottles, paper, and boxes to discuss what we can do with them. The students shared many ideas and showed growing curiosity about how to handle waste. We also watched a video and started learning a song about the 3Rs, which quickly became a class favorite.
As we focused on “Reduce,” the students began thinking about how they can use less in their daily lives. They shared ideas such as turning off the water after washing hands, turning off lights when leaving the room, and using towels instead of paper. We encouraged them to think not only about what they can do, but also why it is important.
Later in the week, the students each chose one way they can reduce waste and created drawings to show their ideas. They presented their work to the class using the sentence “I can reduce by…,” and did a great job sharing their thinking.
We also began focusing on “Reuse.” As a class, we discussed how we can reuse materials in our classroom. Together, we decided on some simple actions, such as using the back of paper, saving scrap paper for crafts, and reusing materials for projects. The students were excited to take part in these decisions and begin putting them into practice.
3Rについての学び
今週のUOIでは、「リデュース(減らす)・リユース(再利用)・リサイクル(再資源化)」について学び始めました。子どもたちは、ゴミをどのように扱うことができるのかを考え、自分たちの行動がどのように地球を守ることにつながるのかを少しずつ考え始めています。
ペットボトルや紙、箱などの実物を使いながら、「これはどうできるかな?」と話し合いを行いました。子どもたちはたくさんのアイデアを出し、興味を持って取り組んでいました。また、3Rについての動画を見たり、歌を覚えたりしながら楽しく学びを深めています。
「リデュース」では、普段の生活の中でどのように無駄を減らせるかを考えました。手を洗った後に水を止める、教室を出るときに電気を消す、ペーパータオルの代わりにタオルを使うなどのアイデアが出ました。「どうやって」だけでなく「なぜそれが大切か」についても考えるようにしています。
その後、自分ができるリデュースの方法を一つ選び、絵に描いて発表しました。「I can reduce by〜」の形でしっかりと自分の考えを伝えることができました。
また、「リユース」についても学び、教室でできることをみんなで考えました。紙の裏を使うことや、端紙を集めて制作に使うこと、箱などを再利用することなどを決め、これから実践していきます。


















Music Lesson
In our music lesson this week, the students practiced playing the pianica. The teacher was very impressed with how well everyone was able to play. The students listened carefully, followed instructions, and showed great focus during the lesson.
Many students were able to control their breathing and finger movements well, and they worked hard to play the notes correctly. It was wonderful to see their confidence growing as they practiced together.
音楽の時間
今週の音楽の授業では、鍵盤ハーモニカの練習を行いました。先生は、子どもたちがとても上手に演奏できていたことにとても驚いていました。
子どもたちはよく話を聞き、集中して取り組むことができていました。息の使い方や指の動かし方にも気をつけながら、一つ一つの音を丁寧に演奏しようと頑張っていました。
みんなで一緒に練習する中で、自信を持って演奏する姿が見られ、とても成長を感じる時間となりました。



A Week of Growing Ideas
This week, the students began to think more deeply about their actions and how they can make small changes in their daily lives. Through discussions, drawing, and sharing, they are starting to build an understanding of how they can care for the environment.
We will continue to revisit these ideas and support the students as they develop their understanding and take action in the classroom.
