Hello Everyone,
This week in our Unit of Inquiry about the 3Rs, our young learners had a meaningful and exciting time exploring ways to care for our Earth! We wrapped up our first line of inquiry, “The Purpose of the 3Rs,” by reviewing the meaning of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle through provocation, discussions, sorting activities, watching videos, and our lively 3Rs song (attached at the end of this blog). Singing together helped students become enthusiastic and reflective about how small actions can make a big difference for the environment. To deepen their understanding, students worked independently to draw different ways they can help the Earth by practicing the 3Rs. Their creative illustrations showed wonderful understanding and thoughtful connections to real-life situations. Teachers then supported students in turning their ideas into words, helping them express their thinking with confidence. During this activity, students demonstrated the learner profiles of being Knowledgeable by applying what they had learned about the 3Rs into their drawings, Thinkers as they came up with solutions to help the environment, Communicators as they shared and explained their ideas, and Caring as they showed concern for protecting our planet.
We were also very fortunate to welcome two staff members from the Ministry of Environment who visited our class to talk about recycling. Students learned that many old materials can be transformed into new useful items through recycling. For example, old plastic can become hangers, and used paper can be recycled into tissue paper. The presentation helped students make real-world connections to our inquiry and inspired them to think more deeply about how recycling helps protect the environment.
We then began exploring our second line of inquiry, “How Waste Affects the Environment.” To introduce this topic, we had a class discussion and created a mind map together to understand the meanings of the words waste and environment. Students eagerly shared their prior knowledge, ideas, and experiences, showing curiosity and excitement for learning.

今週は「3R（リデュース・リユース・リサイクル）」をテーマにした探究の単元の中で、子どもたちは地球を大切にする方法について、楽しく、そして意義深く学ぶ時間を過ごしました。最初の探究の流れである「3Rの目的」では、導入活動（プロボケーション）、話し合い、分類活動、動画視聴、そして元気いっぱいの3Rソング（ブログの最後に添付しています）を通して、Reduce（減らす）、Reuse（くり返し使う）、Recycle（再利用する）の意味を振り返りました。みんなで歌うことで、子どもたちは「小さな行動が環境に大きな変化をもたらす」ということに、楽しみながら気づくことができました。
理解をさらに深めるために、子どもたちは3Rを実践して地球を守る方法を一人ひとり考え、絵に描いて表現しました。どの作品も、実生活と結びついた豊かな発想と深い理解が感じられる素晴らしいものでした。その後、教師がサポートしながら、子どもたちは自分の考えを言葉にし、自信をもって伝えることにも挑戦しました。この活動を通して、子どもたちは3Rについて学んだことを活かす「知識のある人（Knowledgeable）」、環境を守るための方法を考える「考える人（Thinker）」、自分の考えを共有・説明する「コミュニケーションができる人（Communicator）」、そして地球を大切に思う気持ちを示す「思いやりのある人（Caring）」という学習者像をしっかりと発揮していました。
また今週は、松本市の環境課から2名の職員の方が来てくださり、リサイクルと食べ残しについてお話をしてくださいました。子どもたちは、古いものが新しく役立つものに生まれ変わることを学びました。例えば、使われなくなったプラスチックがハンガーになったり、使用済みの紙がティッシュペーパーに再生されたりすることを知り、探究の学びを実社会と結びつける貴重な機会となりました。この体験は、リサイクルがどのように環境を守っているのかを考えるきっかけにもなりました。
そして次の探究の流れである「ごみが環境に与える影響」にも取り組み始めました。してクラスで話し合いを行い、「ごみ（waste）」や「環境（environment）」という言葉の意味を理解するために、みんなでマインドマップを作成しました。子どもたちはこれまでの知識や経験を意欲的に共有し、学ぶことへの好奇心とワクワクした気持ちをたくさん見せてくれました。

Our class had a wonderful and exciting bus trip to Matsumoto Alps Park! The weather was beautiful, and everyone was full of energy and excitement from the very beginning. After getting off the bus, we carefully walked together toward the observatory tower while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery around us.
When we arrived at the observatory tower, we explored each floor with curiosity and excitement. On the first floor, we saw interesting displays about nature, animals, and the environment around Matsumoto. The students enjoyed looking at the pictures, maps, and exhibits. One of the most interesting parts for many students was the emergency supplies display, where they saw the water rations, food packs, and other items prepared in case of emergency in the mountains. It helped them realize that the mountains are not only beautiful, but also a place where people must be prepared and careful.
On the second floor, the students learned even more about the Northern Alps and life in the mountains at higher altitudes. The exhibits introduced the alpine environment and how people adapted to living in these areas. The students explored displays of traditional crafts, clothing, farming tools, and everyday items used in old mountain villages around Matsumoto, helping them better understand the culture and daily life of the people who once lived there. The children enjoyed observing the exhibits and talking together about what they noticed. Finally, we climbed up to the top deck observatory, where we were amazed by the breathtaking panoramic view. We could see the beautiful mountains, the city of Matsumoto, and the wide blue sky. The students happily pointed at the scenery and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere while appreciating the beauty of nature. After visiting the observatory tower, we walked to the play area where the students had so much fun exploring the play structures appropriate for their age. Laughter and excitement filled the park as the children climbed, slid, balanced, and played together happily with their friends. During their play, many students also became fascinated with the different insects they discovered around the park. They carefully observed the insects, excitedly shared their findings with friends and teachers. This helped the students become inquirers by showing curiosity and enthusiasm in learning more about the natural world around them. When it was time for lunch, everyone enjoyed eating the delicious lunch boxes prepared from home. The students sat together, shared conversations, and enjoyed a relaxing picnic surrounded by nature. Thank you so much, dear parents, for preparing the students’ lunch boxes. Your care and support helped make our bus trip even more special. After lunch, we continued our learning by walking around the park to pick up garbage. This activity was connected to our Unit of Inquiry about the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle — as we want to help keep the Earth clean and healthy. The students carefully looked for waste and recyclable materials around the park and threw them into the recycling bins on our way to the bus parking area. Through this meaningful activity, the students demonstrated the learner profile attributes of being caring and knowledgeable by taking action to care for the environment and applying what they learned during our class discussions. After picking up the garbage, we spent time playing at the children square area where the students had another opportunity to run, climb, and enjoy active play together. After so much fun and exercise, almost all of students had already finished the water and tea in their bottles, so we refilled them at the water fountain inside the park. On our way down, we took the long roller slides and enjoyed the scenic views of the surrounding nature and the beautiful Matsumoto Valley. At the end of the day, we headed back to school tired but very happy, bringing home lots of wonderful memories, meaningful learning experiences, and joyful moments with friends.
私たちのクラスは、松本アルプス公園へのバス遠足に出かけ、とても楽しい充実した一日を過ごしました。お天気にも恵まれ、出発した瞬間から子どもたちは元気いっぱい、期待に胸を膨らませていました。バスを降りた後は、澄んだ空気と美しい景色を楽しみながら、みんなで安全に気をつけて展望塔へ向かいました。
展望塔に到着すると、子どもたちは好奇心いっぱいで各階を見学しました。1階では、松本周辺の自然や動物、環境についての展示を見ました。写真や地図、さまざまな展示物に子どもたちは興味津々でした。中でも多くの子どもたちの印象に残ったのは、非常用備蓄品の展示です。山での緊急時に備えて用意されている水や食料などを見て、山は美しいだけでなく、しっかりとした準備と注意が必要な場所であることを学びました。
2階では、北アルプスや高地での暮らしについてさらに詳しく学びました。高山環境や、そこに暮らす人々の工夫や適応について紹介されており、昔の松本周辺の山村で使われていた伝統工芸品、衣服、農具、日用品などの展示を通して、当時の人々の文化や生活への理解を深めることができました。子どもたちは展示をじっくり観察しながら、気づいたことを友だち同士で楽しそうに話し合っていました。
そして最後に展望デッキへ上がると、息をのむほど美しいパノラマの景色が広がっていました。雄大な山々、松本の街並み、そして青く広がる空を眺めながら、子どもたちは指をさしたり、自然の美しさを感じたりしながら、穏やかな時間を過ごしました。
展望塔の見学後は遊具エリアへ移動し、年齢に合った遊具で思いきり体を動かして遊びました。登ったり、滑ったり、バランスをとったりしながら、笑顔と歓声が公園いっぱいに広がっていました。また、公園内で見つけたさまざまな昆虫にも強い興味を示し、じっくり観察したり、発見したことを友だちや先生に嬉しそうに伝えたりしていました。こうした姿から、身の回りの自然に対する好奇心をもって学ぶ「探究する人（Inquirer）」としての姿がたくさん見られました。
お昼の時間には、みんなが一番楽しみにしていたお弁当を、美味しくいただきました。自然に囲まれた中で、会話を楽しみながらゆったりとしたピクニックの時間を過ごすことができました。お弁当のご準備、本当にありがとうございました。保護者の皆さまのご協力のおかげで、遠足がより特別なものになりました。
昼食後は、探究の単元「3R（リデュース・リユース・リサイクル）」と関連づけて、公園内のゴミ拾い活動を行いました。子どもたちは周囲をよく観察しながら、落ちているゴミやリサイクルできるものを見つけ、バス駐車場へ向かう途中で分別して捨てました。この活動を通して、環境を大切にするために行動する「思いやりのある人（Caring）」、そして学んだことを実生活に活かす「知識のある人（Knowledgeable）」としての姿をしっかりと見せてくれました。
ゴミ拾いの後は、子ども広場でもう一度たっぷりと体を動かして遊びました。たくさん遊んだ後には、ほとんどの子どもたちの水筒が空になっていたため、公園内の水飲み場で水分補給もしました。帰り道では、長いローラースライダーに乗り、松本盆地と周囲の自然を眺めながら、最後まで遠足を楽しみました。
園に戻る頃には少し疲れていましたが、子どもたちの表情はとても満足そうでした。楽しい思い出、心に残る学び、そして友だちとの素敵な時間をたくさん胸に抱いて、充実した一日を締めくくることができました。
We have writing this week as students practiced writing CVC words on the baseline three times. This activity helped the children strengthen their handwriting skills, letter formation, pencil control, and understanding of proper spacing.
During writing time, the students showed the learner profile of being Principled by carefully following the correct writing procedures, practicing neatly, and doing their best to write properly on the lines.
Lastly, during our phonics lesson, we reviewed the short vowel sounds a, e, i, o, and u. The students sorted pictures of CVC words according to their middle vowel sound. They showed the learner profile attribute of being inquirers as they carefully listened, thought critically, and identified which vowel sound each word should have.
今週のライティングの時間では、CVCワードをベースラインの上に3回ずつ書く練習を行いました。この活動を通して、子どもたちは文字を書く力や正しい文字の形、鉛筆の持ち方・操作、そして適切な文字間隔についての理解を深めることができました。
ライティングの時間には、正しい書き方の手順を丁寧に守り、線の上にきれいに書こうと一生懸命取り組む姿が見られ、「信念をもって行動する人（Principled）」という学習者像をしっかりと発揮していました。
また、フォニックスのレッスンでは、短母音 a・e・i・o・u の音を復習しました。子どもたちはCVCワードの絵カードを見て、真ん中の母音の音ごとに分類する活動に取り組みました。音をよく聞き、考えながら、それぞれの単語に合った母音を見つける姿から、「探究する人（Inquirer）」としての姿勢が感じられました。
Next week, we will continue our inquiry into how waste affects the environment. We will visit the Clean Center to deepen our understanding of how we can care for the Earth and manage waste responsibly. The students are excited to learn more about protecting our environment through real-life experiences.
We are also looking forward to our rice planting activity next Friday, where students will have the opportunity to experience planting rice and appreciate the importance of nature, farming, and caring for our resources.
