A Warm Welcome to Our New Friend!-Milky Way-June 22nd-26th

Hello, Milky Way Families!

What an exciting and meaningful week it has been in the Milky Way classroom! We were excited to welcome a new friend to the Milky Way class! Since it was his very first day, we wanted to help him feel comfortable, included, and part of our classroom family from the moment he arrived. To give him a warm welcome, we invited him to stand at the front of the class while each Milky Way student introduced themselves one by one. They proudly introduced their names and shared about something they like. It was wonderful to see everyone speaking confidently and showing kindness as they welcomed their new classmate. At the end of our introductions, our new friend also introduced himself to the class. Although it was his first day, he bravely stood in front of everyone and shared about himself. We were so proud of all our students for being caring and communicative, helping to create a warm and friendly environment where everyone feels they belong. We are looking forward to making many happy memories together as we continue to learn, play, and grow as one Milky Way family. Welcome to our class!

Our students proudly became teachers as they shared their learning about caring for the Earth with the Rainbow, Aurora, and Shooting Star classes. Through their group presentations, they confidently explained how we can help protect our planet by recycling, keeping our classrooms clean, keeping the air clean, and saving water. Standing in front of different classes, the students remembered to speak loudly and clearly so everyone could hear and understand their important message. At the end of each presentation, they confidently asked, “Do you have any questions?” and thoughtfully answered every question from both students and teachers. They were delighted to receive encouraging comments and praise for their hard work and growing knowledge from the teachers and students. Students proudly received medals for applying their research skills while working collaboratively and presenting their learning with confidence. We also concluded our Unit of Inquiry with individual reflection interviews, where each student shared what they had learned, what they enjoyed most, and how their understanding of the 3Rs had grown. It was wonderful to see them confidently express their ideas and reflect on their exciting learning journey.

In phonics, we explored the long vowel o sound through Magic e words. We enjoyed singing a Magic e song, reading long o words together, and completing an individual cut-and-paste activity to sort short o and long o words. Throughout the lesson, the students demonstrated the Thinker learner profile as they carefully listened to each word, thought critically about its vowel sound, and decided whether it belonged in the short o or long o category. Their growing confidence and careful thinking made the learning both fun and meaningful!

Students had a wonderful time during their swimming lesson! They eagerly participated in all the water activities and showed growing confidence as they practiced their swimming skills. It was wonderful to see their smiles and excitement throughout the lesson.

The students also demonstrated the Communicator learner profile by listening carefully to the swimming instructor, following directions, and responding appropriately during each activity. Their positive attitude and willingness to try their best helped make the lesson both enjoyable and successful.

After swimming, many students felt a little tired and sleepy from all the exercise, but they did a great job resting on the bus ride back and managed to return to school ready to continue the rest of the day. We are proud of their effort and enthusiasm.

Mud Play Day was filled with laughter, imagination, and lots of fun! Before heading outside, we asked the students, “Do you like mud play?” Their enthusiastic response was a loud “Yes!” They happily changed into their mud play clothes, excited for the adventure ahead. Once outside, the children eagerly explored the muddy area, splashing, scooping, pouring, and creating with a variety of toys. Using their wonderful imaginations, the mud became delicious “cakes,” or “soups,” It was wonderful to see them working together, sharing materials, and inventing creative play scenarios.

Our Milky Way students eagerly looked forward to their weekly tennis lesson! With excitement, they packed their water bottles, wrapped their towels around their necks, and hopped on the bus, ready for another fun-filled session at the tennis court.

Throughout the lesson, the students enthusiastically participated in the activities, practicing their tennis skills while developing coordination, balance, and teamwork. Their smiles and laughter showed just how much they enjoyed every moment on the court.

During our closing afternoon circle, the students reflected on their day. When asked, “Did you have fun today?” the whole class responded with a loud and cheerful, “Yes!” Their enthusiastic answer perfectly captured the joy and excitement they experienced during their tennis lesson.

As we look forward to Gym Open Day, we hope you will enjoy joining our class and experiencing a fun gym lesson alongside your child. We would also like to encourage you to listen to the songs we sing in class at home. Singing together helps reinforce our learning, builds confidence, and makes learning even more enjoyable. We hope you and your child will have fun singing them together, and we can’t wait to see everyone next week.

Have a fantastic weekend!
