ミルキーウェイ・クラスより、今週の様子をお届けします。
今週も、子どもたちは好奇心をもって学び、振り返りを行い、お友だちと協力しながら、さまざまな活動を通して成長することができました。
🔤 フォニックス：「ai」と「ay」の母音チーム
今週のフォニックスでは、「ai」と「ay」の母音チームについて学びました。子どもたちは単語を読む練習だけでなく、それぞれが単語の中でどのように使われるのかについても理解を深めました。「ai」は単語の真ん中によく使われ、「ay」は単語の最後によく使われることを学びました。
学習の後には、抜けている文字を補うワークシートに取り組みました。多くの子どもたちは、空欄が単語のどの位置にあるのかをよく見て、「ai」と「ay」のどちらを書くべきかを考えながら取り組むことができました。ただ答えを予想するのではなく、学んだルールを活用して考える姿が見られ、子どもたちの理解が深まっていることを感じました。

Warm greetings from the Milky Way Class! We had another exciting week filled with curiosity, reflection, teamwork, and lots of opportunities to learn and grow together.
🔤 Phonics: Learning the ai and ay Vowel Teams
This week in Phonics, the students explored the ai and ay vowel teams. They not only practised reading words but also developed an understanding of how these vowel teams are commonly used. The students learned that ai loves to stay in the middle of a word, while ay loves to stay at the end. Their understanding was reflected in a worksheet task where they filled in the missing letters. Many students carefully looked at the position of the blank and used this clue to decide whether to write ai or ay. It was wonderful to see them applying their understanding rather than simply guessing!
🤝 次の探究ユニットへの学びのきっかけ：「チームワーク」
今週は、新しい探究ユニット「チームワーク」の学びのきっかけを探す活動を行いました。まず、さまざまな人たちが協力している場面の写真を見て回る「ギャラリーウォーク」に取り組みました。写真には、家族で料理をしている様子、消防士が消火活動をしている様子、子どもたちが教室を掃除している様子、医療チームが協力している様子などがありました。
写真を見ながら、子どもたちは「お掃除をしているね」「みんなで助け合っている」「一緒に働いているね」と、気付いたことを次々に話してくれました。話し合いが進む中、一人の子どもが少し考え込んだ後、「チームワークだ！」と声を上げると、教室中が「そうだ！」という嬉しい空気に包まれました。みんながつながりに気付いた、とても素敵な「なるほど！」の瞬間でした。
この活動をきっかけに、新しい探究のテーマ「私たちはどのように自分たちを組織しているのか（How We Organize Ourselves）」を紹介しました。また、中心となる考え（Central Idea）は、「チームワークによって、人々は共通の目標を達成することができる」であることを伝えました。
さらに、最初の探究の流れ１（Line of Inquiry）として、「チームには、それぞれの役割と責任がある」ことについて学び始めました。このユニットでは、チームワークとは何かを考えながら、共通の目標に向かって協力するために、一人ひとりがどのような役割や責任を担っているのかを探究していきます。
その後は、KWLチャート（「知っていること」「知りたいこと」「学んだこと」）を使って、子どもたちの考えを共有しました。
「チームワークについて知っていることは？」という質問には、「グループで一緒に活動すること」「助け合うこと」「話し合ってアイデアを出すこと」などの意見が出ました。また、「みんなで何かを作ったり、一緒に協力したりすること」と答える子どももいました。
さらに、「どんなことを知りたいですか？」という問いには、「グループでもっとみんなを助けるにはどうしたらいいのかな？」という、とても素敵な考えも聞かれました。
子どもたちが、今知っていることだけでなく、これから学びたいことについても自分の言葉で表現する姿が見られ、これからの探究がますます楽しみになりました。
このユニットでは、「心を開く人（Open-minded）」「コミュニケーションができる人（Communicator）」「振り返りができる人（Reflective）」の姿を特に大切に育んでいきます。相手の考えを尊重しながら話を聞き、自分の考えを分かりやすく伝え、お友だちと協力しながら活動し、うまくいったことや次に頑張りたいことを振り返る力を育てていきます。また、学びに応じて、ほかのIB学習者像にも自然につなげながら探究を進めていきます。
今後も探究が進むにつれて、KWLチャートに新しい疑問や発見、学んだことを書き加えていく予定です。子どもたち自身の考えや学びが少しずつ教室に積み重なり、成長の足跡が見えるようになることを楽しみにしています。
🤝 Provocation for Our Next Unit: Teamwork
We began an exciting provocation for our next Unit of Inquiry on Teamwork. The class participated in a Gallery Walk featuring pictures of people working together, such as a family preparing a meal, firefighters putting out a fire, students cleaning the classroom, and a medical team. As the students observed the pictures, they shared what they noticed and wondered. One student commented, “People are cleaning up,” while others added, “Everyone helps,” and “They are working together.” As the discussion deepened, one student paused to think more carefully and finally exclaimed, “Teamwork!” The classroom was instantly filled with excitement as everyone made the connection. It was a joyful “aha!” moment and a wonderful beginning to our new inquiry. Following this exciting discovery, we officially introduced our new Transdisciplinary Theme: How We Organize Ourselves, with the Central Idea: “Teamwork enables people to achieve common goals.” We also introduced our first Line of Inquiry: “There are roles and responsibilities in a team.” As we begin this new unit, students will explore what teamwork means and develop a deeper understanding of the different roles and responsibilities people have when working together toward a shared goal. Then, we talked about the KWL Chart: What do we know? What do we wonder? What did we learn? Students shared some of their current ideas about teamwork. One student explained that teamwork is when people work in a group, help each other, communicate, and share ideas. Another student added that teamwork is a group of people making something and working together. When asked, “What do you wonder?” one student thoughtfully shared, “I wonder how I can help more in the group.” It was wonderful to hear the students express not only what they already know about teamwork but also meaningful questions that can help shape and guide their inquiry. Throughout this unit, we will focus on developing the Learner Profile attributes of Open-minded, Communicator, and Reflective. Students will have opportunities to listen to and respect different ideas, express their thoughts and feelings clearly, work with others, and reflect on what worked well and what they can improve. We will also draw on other Learner Profile attributes when they naturally connect to the students’ learning experiences. We will continue to revisit the KWL Chart as our inquiry develops, adding new questions, wonderings, and discoveries along the way. We hope to gradually fill our classroom wall with the students’ own thinking and learning, making their progress visible as the unit unfolds.
♻️ 探究フェア準備：チームワークを実践しています！
今週も、探究フェアに向けた準備を進めました。子どもたちは「Reduce（減らす）」「Reuse（繰り返し使う）」「Recycle（リサイクル）」をテーマにしたロールプレイの発表に向けて、チームで協力しながら取り組んでいます。一人ひとりが大切な役割と責任を担い、共通の目標に向かって力を合わせる経験は、新しく始まった探究ユニット「チームワーク」ともつながる貴重な学びとなっています。
準備を進める中で、子どもたちは「役割を果たすこと」「責任をもつこと」「コミュニケーションをとること」「協力すること」が、チームで活動するために大切であることを少しずつ実感し始めています。
また、自分の役になりきるための被り物作りにも取り組みました。子どもたちはアイデアを出し合いながら、楽しそうに制作を進め、発表への期待もますます高まっている様子でした。
練習では、お互いに意見を伝え合い、友だちの話をよく聞きながら準備を進めることで、コミュニケーションする力を育んでいます。また、友だちの考えを受け入れたり、アドバイスを素直に取り入れたりする姿も多く見られました。
発表練習では、セリフを覚えることに加え、「大きな声ではっきり話すこと」「気持ちを込めて表現すること」「聞いている人の方を見ること」「身振りや動きを取り入れること」なども意識しながら取り組んでいます。
さらに、ロールプレイ発表の振り返りシートを使って、「できたこと」や「次に頑張りたいこと」を一人ひとりが考える時間も設けました。自分自身の取り組みを振り返ることで、より良い発表に向けて意欲的に取り組む姿が見られました。
探究フェア当日まで、これからもお互いに支え合いながら練習を重ねていきます。子どもたちの自信やコミュニケーション力、振り返る力、そしてチームワークが日に日に育っていることを、とても嬉しく感じています。
♻️ Inquiry Fair Preparation: Teamwork in Action!
We also continued preparing for our upcoming Inquiry Fair, which has been a wonderful opportunity to put teamwork into action. Students are working in teams for their role-play presentations on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, with each child taking on an important role and responsibility in helping their team achieve a shared goal. This experience has also created a meaningful connection to our new unit, as students are already beginning to discover how roles, responsibilities, communication, and cooperation help a team work successfully. The students especially enjoyed creating their own character headpieces to represent their roles, bringing creativity and excitement to the preparation process. As they worked and practised together, they developed as Communicators by sharing ideas, listening to one another, and expressing themselves with growing confidence. They also showed Open–mindedness by considering their teammates’ ideas and accepting suggestions. During practice, students focused on remembering their lines, speaking clearly and loudly, showing emotion, looking at the audience, and using actions and movements to make their presentations more engaging. They also grew as Reflective learners by using the Role-Play Presentation Assessment to think about what they were doing well and identify areas they could continue to improve. We will continue practicing, supporting one another, and growing together until Inquiry Fair day. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, communication, reflection, and teamwork continue to grow!
🏊♀️🤸♂️🎾 体を動かして楽しく学びました
今週も、子どもたちはスイミング、ジム、テニスのレッスンを楽しみながら、さまざまな運動に取り組みました。また、子どもたちが楽しみにしていた園内プールでの水遊びも始まり、笑顔いっぱいで活動を楽しむ姿が見られました。

🎂 来週の予定
来週も、楽しい活動がたくさん予定されています。7月生まれのお友だちのお誕生日会を全校で行います。また、子どもたちが楽しみにしている五常キャンパスでの探究フェアでは、これまで練習してきたロールプレイを通して、自分たちの学びを発表します。子どもたちの頑張る姿を、ぜひ楽しみにしていてください。
そのほかにも、ジム、テニス、音楽のレッスンを予定しています。

🏊♀️🤸♂️🎾 Active Learning and Water Play
This week, the students also enjoyed Swimming, Gym, and Tennis lessons. We were especially excited to begin our school pool water play, which the students had been eagerly looking forward to! A gentle reminder: Please indicate on your child’s card whether they are able to participate in water play or not. Thank you for your support in helping us ensure safe participation for everyone.
🎂 Looking Ahead to Next Week
Next week will be another exciting one! We will celebrate a Birthday Party for all ISN students across classes who were born in July. We are also looking forward to our much-anticipated Inquiry Fair at the Gojo Campus, where students will proudly share their learning through their role-play presentations. We can’t wait to celebrate this special day together—see you there! Students will also continue with their Gym, Tennis, and Music lessons.
