This week, the Savanna children started preparing for our Sports Festival and deepened their understanding of small creature habitats through our UOI learning.
For our Sports Festival preparation, we started practicing our Paraballoon performance. The children are trying their best to remember the different formations and movements we need to create with the paraballoon. They have been practicing making a back bridge with their bodies and working together to move at the same time. We visited the gym on Monday and Friday to practice, and everyone showed great teamwork, effort, and determination. We will continue practicing and doing our best as we get closer to the Sports Festival!
In our UOI lessons, we explored small creature habitats. The word “habitat” was a new vocabulary word for the children, and they were excited to use it during our discussions. Instead of saying a small creature’s “home” or “house,” they learned that we can use the word “habitat.” The children discovered that a habitat provides small creatures with the things they need to live, such as food, water, a place to sleep and rest, and a safe place to live — just like humans need a home.
小さな生き物のHabitat（すみか）を作ろう！～SV 7/27–31～
今週、サバンナクラスの子どもたちはスポーツフェスティバルに向けた準備を本格的に始めるとともに、UOI（探究学習）では小さな生き物のすみかについて理解を深めました。
スポーツフェスティバルに向けては、パラバルーンを使ったパフォーマンスの練習が始まりました。子どもたちは、パラバルーンで作るさまざまな形や動きを一生懸命覚えようとしています。また、体をそらせてブリッジをしたり、友だちと息を合わせて同じタイミングで動いたりすることにも挑戦しています。今週は、月曜日と金曜日に体育館で練習を行い、みんな協力し合いながら、一生懸命取り組む姿や最後まで頑張ろうとする気持ちを見せてくれました。スポーツフェスティバル当日に向けて、これからも練習を重ね、みんなで力を合わせて頑張っていきます！
UOI（探究学習）では、小さな生き物の「Habitat（すみか・生息場所）」について学びました。「Habitat」は子どもたちにとって初めて聞く言葉でしたが、興味をもち、話し合いの中でも楽しそうに使う姿が見られました。小さな生き物の「House」や「Home」というだけでなく、「Habitat（すみか・生息場所）」という言葉があることを知り、その意味について考えました。
子どもたちは、自分たちがどうして森の中や水の中に住んでいるのではなく、「家」に住んでいるかを考え、家には食べ物があったり、安心して休める環境があったりするからだと考えました。そして、小さな生き物にとっても、生きていくために必要な食べ物や水、眠ったり休んだりする場所、そして安全に暮らせる環境があることを学びました。子どもたちが安心して暮らせる家を必要とするように、小さな生き物にもそれぞれに合ったHabitatが必要であることを理解しました。
After learning about habitats, we had a fun paper-folding activity where we created our own paper boxes. It was a little challenging, but the children enjoyed the process because, before making the final box shape, they discovered that the paper could transform into different shapes, such as a hat, a house, and a boat. When everyone finally completed their paper boxes, they were so proud and happy with their creations.
Habitat（すみか・生息場所）について学んだ後は、折り紙を使って自分だけの小さな箱を作る活動を行いました。少し難しい工程もありましたが、子どもたちは完成までの過程を楽しんでいました。箱になる前の折り方では、紙が帽子や家、船などさまざまな形に変化することに気づき、「帽子みたい！」「船になった！」と嬉しそうに発見を楽しむ姿が見られました。
最後に一人ひとりが箱を完成させると、「できた！」と達成感いっぱいの笑顔を見せ、自分で作り上げた作品を誇らしそうに眺めていました。
The next day, the children worked in groups to decide which small creature they wanted to create a habitat for. They thought about what their chosen small creature needs and how they could create a suitable habitat. They worked together to design and build their own small-creature habitats using paper boxes. Then, we went outside to collect natural materials such as soil, grass, flowers, stones, and leaves to complete their habitats. It was wonderful to see the children sharing ideas, cooperating with friends, and using their creativity to design a suitable home for their chosen small creatures.
翌日、サバンナさん達はグループごとに、どの小さな生き物のHabitat（すみか・生息場所）を作るか話し合いました。選んだ生き物がどのようなものを必要としているのかを考えながら、その生き物に合ったHabitatを計画しました。園庭へ出て、土や草、花、小石、葉っぱなどの自然素材を集め、前日に作った紙の箱の中にそれらを入れて、小さな生き物のHabitatを完成させました！
子どもたちは友だちと一緒に「これを入れた方がいいんじゃない？」などアイデアを出し合い、協力しながら一緒に考え、自分たちが選んだ小さな生き物にぴったりのHabitatを作ることを楽しみました。それぞれの生き物が安心して暮らせる環境を考える姿から、探究を通して学びを深めている様子が感じられました。
サバンナさん達は、教室で飼っているカブトムシのお世話もしっかりと行っています。毎朝、食べ物の補充をしたり、土を湿らしたりなどして、カブトムシ達が安心して過ごせる環境を整えています。ブロックで生き物を作ってみたり、教室の外にいるセミの声に耳を傾け、ミンミンゼミかな？アブラセミかな？など考え、図鑑を見て情報を得ることも楽しんでいます。
In our Phonics lesson, we finished learning and reading short /a/ CVC words. To review the words we have learned, we played a fun game of Musical Chairs. The children enjoyed moving to the music while practicing their reading skills. Most of the children were able to read the words independently and showed great confidence in connecting sounds together. Next week, we will begin exploring short /e/ CVC words.
フォニックスレッスンでは、短母音 /a/ を使ったCVC（子音・母音・子音）の単語の学習を終えました。これまでに学んだ単語の復習として、椅子取りゲームを楽しみながら、読む練習をしました。子どもたちは音楽に合わせて体を動かしながら、楽しんで単語を読むことができました。
多くの子どもたちは、自分の力で単語を読むことができるようになり、一つひとつの音をつなげて読むことにも自信がついてきています。来週からは、短母音 /e/ を使ったCVC単語の学習を始める予定です。
We also celebrated two of our Savanna friends’ 5th birthdays this month! They enjoyed a fun birthday party at school with their friends. The children had fun playing a shadow game, guessing animal shadows and naming them. We also practiced the Matsumoto Bon-Bon dance together.
今月は、サバンナクラスのお友だち2名が5歳のお誕生日を迎えました。お友だちみんなでお祝いをし、楽しいお誕生日会を過ごしました。
お誕生日会では、動物のシルエットを見て何の動物かを当てる「シルエットクイズ」を楽しみました。子どもたちは、「ライオン！」「ぞう！」などと元気よく答えながら、友だちと一緒に盛り上がっていました。また、みんなで松本ぼんぼんの踊りも練習し、音楽に合わせて楽しく体を動かしました。
It was a wonderful week filled with teamwork, creativity, learning, and joyful moments. The Savanna children continue to grow as confident learners who enjoy exploring new ideas, supporting their friends, and discovering more about the world around them. 🌿🐞🎂
