This week, our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) has been full of exciting learning experiences! As part of Line of Inquiry 1, we explored farm animals and wild animals. The children observed pictures of various animals, identified them and discussed where they mostly live. They then took turns standing in front of the class and making simple sentences such as, *”This is a baboon. It lives in the wild.” or “This is a horse. It lives on a farm.”

今週のUOI（探究の時間）では、子どもたちは楽しく学びを深めました。今回はLine of Inquiry 1「さまざまな動物の種類」として、牧場の動物（Farm Animals）と野生の動物（Wild Animals）について探究しました。いろいろな動物の写真を見ながら、「これは何の動物かな？」「どこに住んでいるのかな？」とみんなで考えました。その後は、一人ずつクラスの前に立ち、「This is a baboon. It lives in the wild.（これはヒヒです。野生に住んでいます。）」や、「This is a horse. It lives on a farm.（これは馬です。牧場で暮らしています。）」など、簡単な英語の文で発表しました。少しずつ自信をもって前に立ち、自分の言葉で伝えようとする姿が見られました。動物の名前や住んでいる場所について楽しみながら学び、英語で表現することにも意欲的に取り組んでいます。

At the beginning of the week, some children found it challenging to say the animal name “guinea pig,” but with repeated practice, modelling and encouragement, they were pronouncing it by the end of the week. It was wonderful to see how much their language is developing. The children also enjoyed taking turns placing the animal pictures into their correct habitats, demonstrating both their understanding of the concept and their ability to cooperate with one another.

子どもたちは週の初め、「guinea pig（モルモット）」という動物の名前を言うことに少し苦戦していましたが、繰り返し練習したり、先生の発音を真似したりする中で、週の終わりには自信をもって言えるようになりました。子どもたちの言葉の力が少しずつ育っている様子が感じられ、とても嬉しく思います。また、動物のカードをそれぞれの住む場所（生息地）に分ける活動では、友だちと順番を守りながら楽しんで取り組んでいました。動物がどこで暮らしているのかをよく理解し、自分で考えて分類する姿や、お友だちと協力しながら活動を進める姿がたくさん見られました。

Our swimming lessons continue to grow into a truly rewarding experience. This week, the children demonstrated the skills they have been developing over the past weeks, including breath control underwater and flutter kicks. They were also challenged to go into deeper water than usual to swim through a hoop. While some children shared that they felt a little scared, others bravely accepted the challenge and completed it successfully.We are proud of every child for trying their best. Although a few children admitted they were scared , they all came out of the pool with bright smiles on their faces, and some even exclaimed, *”It’s fun!”* Their willingness to step outside their comfort zones are wonderful to witness.

スイミングレッスンでは、これまで練習してきた成果が少しずつ見られるようになってきました。水の中で息を止めることや、バタ足などにも意欲的に取り組み、一人ひとりの成長を感じています。今週は、いつもより少し深い場所でフープをくぐることにも挑戦しました。「ちょっとこわい…」と話す子もいましたが、勇気を出して挑戦し、無事にフープをくぐることができた子もたくさんいました。どの子も自分なりに精一杯頑張る姿が見られ、とても頼もしく感じました。最初は不安そうだった子どもたちも、プールから上がる頃には笑顔いっぱいで、「楽しかった！」と話す姿が見られました。少しずつ新しいことに挑戦する気持ちが育ってきていることを、とても嬉しく思います。
そして今週も暑い日が続き、園庭でのプール遊びも楽しみました！
