This week, Savanna Class enjoyed sharing their wonderful summer memories with friends and creating colorful artwork inspired by their holiday experiences. From water play and fireworks crafts to phonics games, the children had many opportunities to learn, play, and work together.
夏の思い出と色とりどりの作品！ SV 8/17-21
今週、サバンナクラスでは、楽しかった夏の思い出をお友だちと共有したり、夏休みの体験からインスピレーションを得て、色とりどりの作品を作ったりしました。
水遊びや花火の制作、フォニックスのゲームなど、子どもたちはさまざまな活動を通して、学び、遊び、そしてお友だちと協力する機会をたくさん楽しみました。
During the Obon holiday, Savanna students spent time relaxing and making wonderful memories with their families. When they returned to school, they happily shared their experiences with their friends, saying things like, “I went to Nara!” and “I played in the pool!” The children then drew their favorite summer memories on a big sheet of paper and colored their pictures beautifully. We displayed their wonderful artwork on the wall by the stairs, so please take a look at your child’s work!
On Monday, since it was the first day back after the Obon holiday and the weather was very hot, we thought it would be a great opportunity for the children to spend time with their friends and enjoy some water play. We took the bus to the park and had lots of fun playing in the water! On their second visit, the children became curious about where the water was coming from. They explored the area, found their favorite spots to play, and enjoyed shielding themselves from the spurting water with their hats. They also loved running through the water arches and having a fantastic time with their friends!
お盆休みの間、サバンナさん達はお家の方と一緒にゆっくり過ごし、素敵な思い出をたくさん作ったようです。休み明け、子どもたちは「奈良に行ったよ！」「プールで遊んだよ！」などと、楽しかった経験をお友だちに嬉しそうに話していました。その後、大きな紙に夏の思い出の中から一番心に残ったことを描き、色鮮やかに仕上げました。階段横の壁に素敵な作品を展示していますので、ぜひお子さまの作品をご覧ください！
月曜日は、お盆休み明けの初日で、とても暑い日だったため、水遊びを楽しむことにしました。そこで、バスに乗って公園へ行き、思いきり水遊びを楽しみました！
今年2回目の公園での水遊び。子どもたちは「この水はどこから来ているんだろう？」と水が出てくる場所に興味を持ち始めました。周りを探検しながら、それぞれお気に入りの遊び場所を見つけたり、帽子で噴き出す水をよけたりして楽しみました。また、水のアーチの中を走り抜ける遊びも大人気で、お友だちと一緒に思いきり楽しむことができました！
We made a beautiful craft inspired by one of our favorite summer memories—fireworks! While watching a video, Ms. Shizuka asked the children about the colors they could see. They excitedly said, “Rainbow colors!” and “All the colors!”, showing that they noticed the many beautiful colors in the fireworks. Everyone enjoyed creating their own fireworks artwork using colorful paints. Please take a look at how fantastic their fireworks crafts are!
夏の思い出の中でも特に人気のある「花火」をテーマに、素敵な制作をしました！空びあがる花火のビデオを見ると、「花火見たよ！」と家族で花火大会に行ったことを教えてくれる子どもたちがたくさんいました。また、「どんな色が見えるかな？」と子どもたちに尋ねると、「虹色！」「全部の色！」と、嬉しそうに答えていました。子どもたちは、花火に使われているたくさんの美しい色に気づいていたようです。
その後、色とりどりの絵の具を使って、一人ひとり自分だけの花火の作品を作りました。子どもたちが作った素敵な花火の作品を、ぜひご覧ください！
In our phonics lesson, we learned how to read -ed CVC words such as red, bed, and wed. We also played a fun group game called the CVC Word Race! Ms. Fronie showed the children a picture, and the players had to quickly find the word that matched the picture and pass it to the next player. The students worked hard to read the words quickly and accurately. It was wonderful to see them cheering for their teammates and working together as they tried their best to win!
フォニックスのレッスンでは、red、bed、wedなどの「-ed」を含むCVCワードの読み方を学びました。また、グループで楽しめる「CVC Word Race！」にも挑戦しました。Ms. Fronieが子どもたちに絵を見せると、ゲームに参加している子どもたちは、その絵に合う単語を素早く見つけ、次のお友だちへ渡します。子どもたちは、単語をできるだけ速く、そして正確に読むことを意識しながら、一生懸命取り組んでいました。
ゲームに勝つために頑張る中で、チームのお友だちを応援したり、協力したりする子どもたちの姿も見られ、とても素敵な時間になりました。
In our Unit of Inquiry, “Sharing the Planet – Small Creatures,” we started to explore LOI 2: How small creatures grow and change. The children completed a worksheet where they chose a small creature, pasted its picture, and drew the things they thought it needed to grow. Most of them drew food, water, and sleep.
The following day, we watched a video of the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Many of the children were already familiar with the story and eagerly shared their knowledge. We heard comments such as, “It’s still hungry!”, “It has a stomachache!”, and “It will become a butterfly!” When we asked, “Why do you think he got a stomachache?”, one child shared, “Because he ate people’s food!” We also discussed what the caterpillar needed to grow, and the children shared that it needed to eat leaves. Through our discussions, we learned that small creatures have different needs as they grow, just like humans.
UOI「Sharing the Planet – Small Creatures（地球を共有する―小さな生き物）」では、LOI 2「小さな生き物はどのように成長し、変化するのか」についての探究を始めました。
子どもたちはワークシートに好きな小さな生き物を選んで写真を貼り、その生き物が成長するために必要だと思うものを絵に描きました。多くの子どもたちは、その生き物が好きな食べ物、水、そして「休息（睡眠）」を描いていました。
翌日は、「はらぺこあおむし（The Very Hungry Caterpillar）」の動画を見ました。すでにこのお話を知っている子が多く、「まだお腹が空いてる！」「お腹が痛くなっちゃった！」「ちょうちょになる！」など、さまざまな声が聞かれました。
「どうしてお腹が痛くなったと思う？」と尋ねると、ある子が「人間の食べ物を食べたから！」と答えてくれました。また、あおむしが成長するために何が必要なのかについても話し合い、「葉っぱを食べることが必要！」という意見が出ました。
話し合いを通して、小さな生き物も、人間と同じように、成長するためにそれぞれ異なるものが必要であることを学びました。
The Savanna students also had fun making ladybug origami! They carefully folded and created their ladybugs, then placed them around the tree, making it look like a home for these small creatures.
サバンナの子どもたちは、テントウムシの折り紙制作も楽しみました！一つひとつ丁寧に折ってテントウムシを作り、木の周りに飾りました。たくさんのテントウムシが集まり、小さな生き物たちのお家のような素敵な場所になりました。
It was a wonderful week filled with happy summer memories, creativity, teamwork, and new discoveries! The children demonstrated being Communicators as they shared their ideas and talked about their own experiences. They were also Caring and Open-minded as they listened to their friends and worked together during games and activities.
楽しい夏の思い出や創造力、協力、そして新たな発見にあふれた素敵な一週間となりました！
子どもたちは、自分の考えを伝えたり、自分自身の経験について話したりする中で、**「Communicator（コミュニケーター）」としての姿を見せてくれました。また、お友だちの話に耳を傾けたり、ゲームやさまざまな活動で協力したりする中で、「Caring（思いやりのある人）」や「Open-minded（心を開く人）」**としての姿も見られました。
