Dear Parents and Friends,

1. After a week-long holiday, the kids came back with big smiles and lots of exciting stories to share. They were eager to tell their friends all about their adventures. Some of them happily said:
   • “I went to my grandma’s house!”
   • “I went to the park!”
   • “I went to see the fireworks!”
   • “I went shopping!”

保護者の皆様、そして友人の皆様へ

1週間の休暇を終え、子供たちは満面の笑みと、たくさんの楽しいお土産話を持って戻ってきました。彼らは自分たちの冒険について、友達に話したくてうずうずしていました。中には、嬉しそうにこんな話をしてくれる子もいました。

「おばあちゃんのお家に行ったよ！」

「公園に行ったよ！」

「花火を見に行ったよ！」

「お買い物に行ったよ！」

We started the week by going deeper into our inquiry about animals and the ways they help people. We were excited to welcome the JA staff, who taught us many interesting facts about cows. We learned what cows eat, including grass, how much they eat each day, how they sleep, and how many babies they can have.

After learning about cows, our students had the opportunity to take turns in a hands-on cow milking experience. They were excited to try milking and discover how milk is collected from cows.

The children also enjoyed a fun experiment where they shook bottles of milk and were amazed to discover that it could be turned into butter! Some students confidently shared their prior knowledge that milk can also be used to make cheese and cream.

It was wonderful to see our students being Inquirers, Thinkers, and Knowledgeable learners as they listened, asked questions, shared ideas, and connected their new experiences with what they already knew.

今週は、「動物」と「動物がどのように人の役に立っているか」についての探究をさらに深めることから始めました。JA（農業協同組合）のスタッフの方をお迎えし、牛に関する興味深いお話をたくさん聞くことができました。牛の食べ物（草など）や1日の食事量、寝方、そして何頭の子牛を産めるかなどについて学びました。

牛について学んだ後、子供たちは実際に牛の乳搾りを体験する機会を得ました。乳搾りに挑戦し、牛からどのようにミルクが採れるのかを知ることに、子供たちは大興奮でした。

また、牛乳の入ったボトルを振ってバターを作るという楽しい実験も行い、バターができる様子に驚きの声を上げていました！中には、牛乳からチーズやクリームも作れるという知識を自信を持って披露してくれる生徒もいました。

子供たちが、話を聞き、質問し、アイデアを共有し、新しい体験を既知の知識と結びつけながら、「探究者（Inquirers）」、「思考する人（Thinkers）」、「知識のある学習者（Knowledgeable learners）」として学ぶ姿は、本当に素晴らしいものでした。

We love insects

Aurora students were excited to bring beetles to school and share them with their classmates. Having real beetles in the classroom sparked curiosity and encouraged the students to become more inquisitive. They carefully observed the beetles, paying attention to their colors, shapes, movements, and behaviors. The students asked questions, shared their observations, and exchanged ideas about what they noticed. This hands-on experience helped them develop their observation and communication skills while encouraging them to think like young scientists. Through exploring the beetles, Aurora students became more curious about insects and the natural world around them.

People Care for Animals 🐾

This week, we explored our Line of Inquiry 3: “People care for animals.” We began our learning with a thought-provoking provocation. The children were shown pictures of animals that were hungry, weak, sad, and injured. We took some time to carefully observe the pictures and encouraged the children to think about what the animals might need.

After observing, we asked, “How can we help take care of animals?” The children were excited to share their ideas and demonstrate their understanding. They came up with many thoughtful ways to care for animals:

• “I can give them food!”
• “I can give them a shower!”
• “I can brush them!”
• “I can bring them to the vet!”
• “I can give them water!”
• “I can play with them!”
• “I can hug them!”

It was wonderful to see the children actively participating and confidently sharing their ideas. Through this experience, they demonstrated that they are becoming knowledgeable and caring thinkers, understanding that animals have needs and that people have an important role in caring for them.

We are so proud of their enthusiasm, compassion, and willingness to think about how they can make a difference in the lives of animals. We look forward to continuing our learning and discovering more ways to show kindness and care to all living things. 💕🐶🐱

昆虫が大好き！

オーロラ（Aurora）クラスの子供たちは、カブトムシを学校に持ってきて、クラスメートと見せ合うことを楽しみにしていました。教室に本物のカブトムシがいることで子供たちの好奇心が刺激され、探究心がさらに高まりました。子供たちはカブトムシの色、形、動き、行動などをよく観察しました。質問をしたり、観察したことを共有したり、気づいたことについて意見を交わしたりしました。こうした体験は、観察力やコミュニケーション能力を養うとともに、小さな科学者のように考えるきっかけとなりました。カブトムシの探究を通じて、子供たちは昆虫や身近な自然の世界への関心をさらに深めました。

動物を大切にする人々 🐾

今週は、探究のテーマ（Line of Inquiry）である「人は動物を大切にする（People care for animals）」について探究しました。学習の導入として、子供たちの思考を促すような「プロボケーション（探究のきっかけとなる問いかけや提示）」を行いました。お腹を空かせた動物、弱っている動物、悲しそうな動物、そして怪我をした動物の写真を子供たちに見せました。時間をかけてじっくりと写真を観察し、その動物たちに何が必要なのかを考え合うように促しました。観察を終えた後、私たちは「どうすれば動物たちのお世話ができるかな？」と尋ねてみました。子どもたちは目を輝かせながら、自分たちの考えや理解していることを次々と発表してくれました。動物たちを大切にするための、思いやりにあふれたアイデアがたくさん出されました。

「ごはんをあげられるよ！」

「シャワーをしてあげられるよ！」

「ブラッシングしてあげられるよ！」

「動物病院に連れて行ってあげられるよ！」

「お水をあげられるよ！」

「一緒に遊んであげられるよ！」

「ぎゅって抱きしめてあげられるよ！」

子どもたちが積極的に参加し、自信を持って自分の考えを伝えてくれる姿は本当に素敵でした。この経験を通して、彼らは動物にも必要なものがあること、そしてそのお世話をする上で人間には大切な役割があることを理解し、知識と優しさを兼ね備えた「考える人」へと成長していることを示してくれました。

動物たちの生活のために自分たちに何ができるかを考えようとするその熱意、思いやり、そして意欲を、私たちはとても誇らしく思います。これからも学びを深め、すべての生き物に優しさや思いやりを向ける方法をさらに見つけていきたいと思っています。💕🐶🐱
