This week, as part of Line of Inquiry 3, we had a fun with an egg-tasting activity! Before getting started, we reviewed some of the foods and materials we get from farm animals. The children identified that eggs come from chickens, bacon comes from pigs, milk comes from cows, and wool comes from sheep. It was wonderful to see how much they could remember from our previous learning.Our curiosity grew when the children were presented with a mysterious box. They were asked to listen carefully to the sound coming from inside and predict which animal might be hiding there. Everyone was excited to make their guesses, and their faces lit up when we revealed a chicken! The excitement continued as they watched our dummy chicken “lay” four eggs. This provided a fun and memorable way for them to connect animals with the products they provide.
今週は、LOI 3（探究の流れ3）の学びの一環として、楽しい卵の試食体験を行いました！活動を始める前に、まずは農場で暮らす動物たちから、私たちがどのような食べ物や素材を得ているのかを振り返りました。子どもたちは、「卵はニワトリから、ベーコンは豚から、牛乳は牛から、羊毛は羊からできている」と答え、これまでの学びをしっかりと覚えていることが分かりました。さらに、子どもたちの好奇心を引き出すために、謎の箱が登場しました！箱の中から聞こえてくる音をよく聞き、「どんな動物が隠れているのかな？」と予想しました。みんなワクワクしながら思い思いの答えを考え、箱の中からニワトリが登場すると、嬉しそうな表情を見せていました。そして、子どもたちの興奮はまだまだ続きます！なんと、ニワトリの模型が「卵を産む」様子を見ながら、4つの卵が出てくるところを観察しました。動物と、私たちが動物から得ている食べ物や素材とのつながりを、楽しく印象に残る形で学ぶことができた活動となりました。
Shortly afterwards, the explored one of the many things eggs can be used to make—scrambled eggs! The children were fascinated by the kitchen setup as we prepared the scrambled eggs with ketchup. Along the way, they were introduced to new vocabulary such as hotplate, oil, and salt.As the eggs cooked, the children were encouraged to observe carefully and notice how their colour changed. They eagerly watched and described the eggs as white and then yellow as they cooked. This simple observation helped them practise using descriptive language while developing their understanding of changes that happen when food is cooked.There was also a lovely phonics connection! As the eggs were being cracked, some children immediately connected the scene to our /e/ phonics sound, remembering the action and sound from our phonics lessons. It was wonderful to see them making connections between their phonics learning and a real-life experience.
続いて、卵を使ってスクランブルエッグ作りに挑戦しました！キッチンの準備が整うと、子どもたちは興味津々。ホットプレートや油、塩など、料理をする中で出てくる新しい言葉にも触れました。卵を割ったり、混ぜたりする様子をじっくり見ながら、「これからどうなるのかな？」とワクワクしながら観察していました。卵に火が通っていくと、子どもたちはその色の変化にも気付きました。最初は白かった卵が、加熱すると少しずつ黄色くなっていく様子を見て、「White!」「Yellow!」と嬉しそうに教えてくれました。実際に料理をする中で、食べ物が変化していく様子を観察し、色や状態を表す言葉を使う機会にもなりました。そして、ここでもフォニックスとのつながりが見られました！卵を割ると、「/e/！」とフォニックスで学んだ音を思い出す子どもたちの姿が。普段のレッスンで覚えた音と、目の前で起きていることがつながった瞬間でした。教室での学びが、実際の体験の中で自然に生かされていることを感じられる、素敵な時間となりました。
Finally, it was time for the best part—tasting! Every child had an opportunity to enjoy some scrambled egg with ketchup. The children happily tasted their creations, and many even asked for more!
そして、いよいよお楽しみの試食タイムです！子どもたちは一人ひとり、ケチャップを添えたスクランブルエッグを味わいました。自分たちで作ったスクランブルエッグを嬉しそうに食べ、中には「もっと食べたい！」とおかわりをお願いする子もいました！
This delicious experience did not only help the children learn about animals and the products we get from them, but also enhanced their vocabulary, observation skills and phonics connections through a real-life, sensory experience. This week’s play was so interesting. They used their imaginations to turn the mud into different creations such as cakes, food, chocolate and soups, engaging in exciting pretend play. It was wonderful to see them embrace the mess with plenty of laughter. This hands-on experience enabled them improve upon their sensory awareness, fine motor skills, creativity and ability to cooperate with others. There may have been muddy hands and clothes, but there were certainly plenty of happy faces too!
最後は、このおいしい体験を通して、動物と動物から得られる食べ物や素材とのつながりについて学ぶだけでなく、実際に見たり、触れたり、味わったりする経験を通して、語彙力や観察する力、フォニックスで学んだことを実生活と結び付ける力も育むことができました。また、今週の泥遊びもとても盛り上がりました！子どもたちは想像力を膨らませ、泥をケーキや食べ物、チョコレート、スープなど、さまざまなものに見立てながら、楽しいごっこ遊びを繰り広げていました。泥だらけになることも気にせず、たくさんの笑い声とともに思いきり楽しむ姿が見られました。このような手を使った体験を通して、感覚への気づきや微細運動能力、創造力、友だちと協力する力を育むことができました。泥んこになりながらも、子どもたちは最後まで笑顔いっぱい！楽しい発見と学びにあふれた一週間となりました。
The children were excited to harvest lots of ripe cherry tomatoes from the plants they cultivated several months ago! We have been picking the tomatoes from time to time as they ripened, but this week’s harvest was especially plentiful—a real bumper crop! All the children eagerly joined in, carefully looking through the plants for the bright red, ripe tomatoes and gently picking them. The children eagerly searched among the leaves and were delighted whenever they discovered a ripe tomato ready to be picked. They took great care as they harvested them, enjoying the rewarding experience of seeing the fruits of their months of nurturing and care.
そして最後は、いよいよ収穫の時間です！子どもたちは、数か月前に植えて大切に育ててきた苗から、たくさんの真っ赤なミニトマトを収穫しました。これまでも、実が赤くなるたびに少しずつ収穫してきましたが、今週は特にたくさんの実がなり、まさに大豊作でした！子どもたちはみんな張り切って収穫に参加し、葉っぱの間をよく探しながら、真っ赤に熟したトマトを見つけると大喜び。実を傷つけないように、ひとつひとつ丁寧に摘み取りました。数か月間、みんなで水やりをしたりお世話をしたりしてきた植物から、実際に実を収穫することで、自分たちの手で育てたものが実を結ぶ喜びを感じる、嬉しい体験となりました。
