Grade 2, congratulations on an amazing inaugural Global Voices speech contest!
To all of the parents who came out to support your kids, thank you so much! I hope you saw just how much hard work these kids put into preparing for the event. They had a lot to share, and they found the bravery to stand up in front of everybody and share it.
Thank you as well to each and every student in Grade 2. As you can see below, the effort went beyond those we saw on Saturday. Everybody had something to say, and we wanted as many to be heard as possible.
We started simple — who is someone you respect? (Ask the kids about Jim Valvano someday!) We fleshed that out a bit, practiced sharing what we had, and learned how to present. Then we moved on to sharing something that you, yourself, are very very interested in. This also led to many interesting and unique stories that some kids decided to make into their speeches. Some kids even brought in work we had done elsewhere in our previous UOI and decided to flesh that out into a speech.
I cannot properly tell you how amazing the kids were, and not just the ones who presented on Saturday. Each and every student produced something worth sharing not just with the class, but with the school and beyond. And for those who we asked to be risk-taking communicators in front of the parents?
Simply outstanding.
But not only do we work hard — we play hard as well! The class’s current obsession is making card houses. Impressive!
