This week, the Rainforest class took their learning beyond the classroom walls. Together with the Milky Way class from the Minami Campus, the students visited the city’s Clean Center to explore how the facility manages waste and to discover how it helps care for the Earth.
今週、Rainforestクラスはお部屋を飛び出して学びを広げました。南松本キャンパスのMilky Wayクラスと一緒に、市のクリーンセンターを訪れ、ごみがどのように処理されているのか、そしてどのように地球環境を守っているのかを学びました。
During the tour, the children observed the different processes used to manage garbage. They learned that everything begins at the platform where citizens bring their waste to be recycled. From there, the garbage is carefully sorted to separate plastics, cans, metals, and other non-recyclable materials such as knives and other hazardous items.
One part of the tour especially caught the students’ attention: the garbage-burning area. Curious and thoughtful, one student asked the tour guide, “Is the smoke from the fire clean? Because it may cause air pollution?” The guide explained that the facility uses special filters to help clean the air before the smoke is released. The students felt relieved after hearing the explanation and continued the tour with excitement and curiosity.
見学の中でも、特に子どもたちの関心を引いたのは、ごみを燃やす場所でした。好奇心いっぱいの子が「火から出る煙はきれいなんですか？空気汚染になるかもしれないから」と質問しました。クリーンセンターの方は、煙を外へ出す前に空気をきれいにするための特別なフィルターが使われていることを説明してくれました。子どもたちはその説明を聞いて安心し、その後もわくわくしながら興味津々で見学を続けました。
The favorite part of the visit for many students was the paper recycling machine, where they saw old paper being transformed into new paper products. Through this real-world experience, the children deepened their understanding of how communities work together to reduce waste and care for the environment.
多くの子どもたちにとって、見学で一番のお気に入りは紙のリサイクル機械でした。古い紙が新しい紙製品へと生まれ変わる様子を見て、子どもたちはとても興味を持っていました。この実際の体験を通して、地域の人々が協力してごみを減らし、環境を守っていることへの理解を深めることができました。
Throughout the visit, the students demonstrated strong ATL Research Skills as they observed, listened carefully, asked meaningful questions, and gathered new information from the environment around them. They also practiced ATL Communication Skills by confidently sharing their ideas, expressing their wonderings, and engaging in discussions with the tour guide and their classmates.
見学を通して、子どもたちは観察をしたり、注意深く話を聞いたり、質問をしたり、周囲の環境から新しい情報を集めたりする中で、ATLのリサーチスキルをしっかりと発揮していました。また、自分の考えを自信をもって伝えたり、不思議に思ったことを表現したり、クリーンセンターの方やクラスメートとの話し合いに積極的に参加したりすることで、ATLのコミュニケーションスキルも実践していました。
The experience also highlighted the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Inquirers, as the children showed curiosity, explored real-world systems, and actively sought answers to better understand how people can help care for the Earth.
このクリーンセンター訪問では、子どもたちが好奇心をもち、実際の社会の仕組みを探究し、人々がどのように地球を守ることができるのかをより深く理解しようと積極的に答えを求めていたことから、IBラーナープロファイルの「探究する人（Inquirers）」の姿も見られました。
Back in the classroom, the students deepened their understanding of the concept of Reduce through sorting games and interactive quizzes. The children enjoyed taking on different challenges, making the learning experience both meaningful and exciting. These activities became an effective way not only to assess their understanding, but also to keep them engaged and having fun while exploring important ideas about caring for the planet.
クラスに戻ってからは、子どもたちは分別ゲームやインタラクティブなクイズを通して、「Reduce（ごみを減らす）」という考えについてさらに理解を深めました。さまざまなチャレンジに楽しみながら取り組み、学びの時間は意味のある、わくわくするものとなりました。これらの活動は、子どもたちの理解度を確認するだけでなく、地球を大切にするための大切な考えを楽しみながら学び続けるための効果的な方法にもなりました。
Also this week, our little readers experienced the RAZ Reading Assessment. This assessment is not designed to measure how “good” or “bad” a child is at reading, but rather to help both teachers and students understand what kind of support is needed to help each learner achieve the expected reading level for their age group.
Everyone had fun reading and trying their best during the assessment. We are also proud to share that almost all of the students are now reading at Level A, which became a wonderful moment of celebration for the whole class. We are excited to continue supporting and encouraging their reading journey as they grow into more confident and enthusiastic readers. More reading adventures to come!
また今週は、子どもたちがRAZリーディングアセスメントにも取り組みました。このアセスメントは、「読むのが上手・下手」を測るためのものではなく、年齢に合った読書レベルに到達するために、それぞれの子どもにどのようなサポートが必要かを、担任と子どもたち自身が理解するためのものです。
子どもたちはみんな楽しみながら、一生懸命読もうと頑張っていました。そして嬉しいことに、ほとんどの子どもたちが現在Level Aを読めるようになりました。これはクラスみんなで喜び合える素晴らしい瞬間となりました。これからも、子どもたちがより自信をもち、読書を楽しめる読者へと成長していけるよう、引き続きサポートし励ましていきたいと思います。これからもたくさんの読書の冒険が待っています！
