CANYON: GROWING TOGETHER THROUGH MUSIC, INQUIRY AND CARING MAY 18 to MAY 22

Another wonderful week has passed in the Canyon, and it has been filled with meaningful learning experiences, joyful discoveries, and growing confidence.

As part of our classroom values, we continue practicing caring in our daily interactions. The children are learning to use kind words, help their friends, share materials, and show consideration for one another. These small but meaningful moments are helping to create a warm and supportive classroom community where everyone feels included and valued.

This week’s music lesson was especially engaging and imaginative. The children were introduced to the idea that we are gradually entering the summer season. Through songs, discussions, and movement, they learned about nature and some of the plants and living things connected to this time of year, such as the lotus flower, cabbage, and caterpillars that begin to appear during the season.

To deepen their understanding, the children practiced making expressive and captivating hand gestures to represent the plants blooming and caterpillars moving. They had so much fun using their bodies and movements to bring the songs and ideas to life. These activities not only strengthened their listening and participation skills, but also encouraged creativity and self-expression.

The children also explored making different beats using castanets during music time. They enjoyed experimenting with rhythm, listening carefully to patterns, and creating sounds together as a group. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they discovered new ways to express themselves through music and movement.

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, the children also explored how our choices can tell us something about who we are. Through discussions about favorite toys and fruits, the children began noticing that everyone can have different preferences and opinions. They excitedly shared their own choices and compared them with those of their classmates, helping them understand that each person is unique.

Together, we reflected on these ideas and created useful information about ourselves on our IB wall. This meaningful activity encouraged the children to express their ideas confidently while developing a deeper sense of identity and belonging within the classroom community. Among their expressions were I like watermelon, I like blocks

It has truly been another week full of growth, exploration, and joyful learning experiences. We are so proud of the children’s progress and look forward to many more exciting moments together.
