Building Skills and Reflecting on Our Learning! SV 6/29-7/3

This week in Savanna Class, we continued building our literacy skills while reflecting on our learning journey throughout our current Unit of Inquiry.During our phonics lesson, we learned about the /ap/ word family and practiced reading CVC words such as lap, map, nap, and gap. Everyone is becoming more confident in blending sounds and recognizing words, and many students can now read these words quickly and independently using flashcards. It is wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm for reading.

In our UOI lesson, we created a summary of our learning experiences by making our My Roles book. Savanna students carefully copied the title, My Roles, from the teacher’s example and practiced their handwriting skills. On the next page, they drew their families, recalling and representing the number of family members they have. On the following pages, they wrote and illustrated their roles and responsibilities at home and at school. The teachers then helped them write sentences to describe their drawings. Finally, the students thought about how to make their books colorful and attractive, just like real books. They eagerly picked up their colored pencils and beautifully decorated their work. It has been wonderful to see their understanding and reflections on everything they have learned throughout this unit come together in their own personal books.

We also had our Gym Open Day on Friday, and the Savanna students were so happy to see their parents joining them. Everyone tried their best during the exercises and ball activities, and it was heartwarming to see the students and parents participating together with such enthusiasm and joy. Thank you very much, dear parents, for coming and for actively participating in the gym activities with your children.

As we look forward to next week’s Tanabata Festival, we listened to Ms. Shizuka read the story of Tanabata. The students wrote their wishes and created beautiful shooting star crafts. Please take a moment to look at their wishes and the crafts hanging on the bamboo tree.

As we wrap up another wonderful week in Savanna Class, we are so proud of all the the learning, creativity, and enthusiasm our students have shown. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s learning journey. We hope everyone has a restful weekend, and we look forward to celebrating the Tanabata Festival together next week✨
