New Friends and New Fun!

What a hot week we’ve been having! It’s really summer now. Luckily we have been keeping cool this week in Waterfall by going in the pool and playing in the mud. We splashed, and played in the pool, dug and made yummy “food” with the mud! Students also continued to improve their self management skills by drying themselves, getting changed independently and even (sometimes!) folding our clothes!

The second week of our unit of inquiry continued, and we have been looking in to what we already know about animals. We’ve been singing “Old Macdonald”, “Itsy Bitsty Spider”, and other fun animal related songs. In the IB method of learning, the teachers listen to what students know and are interested in, and adjust our plan of study accordingly. I’m excited to see what direction our inquiry takes us!

The students have been getting used to the new routines in Waterfall class, and they’re doing great. We begin the day singing songs about the days of the week, months, seasons and weather. At first they were unfamiliar, but now we’ve gotten used to them so much that some students are still singing throughout the day!

We had another new member in our class this week too! They have been living in the US, so can speak great English! We’ve been making friends, sharing different phrases, and having lots of fun learning and playing together.

More and more we are starting to do things by ourselves. Dressing, eating, cleaning. I feel like I’m beginning to see Savanna students emerge…. Is it too early to say that?! I’m so excited to see what the rest of summer brings!
