🐞Caring Hearts and Sports Festival Fun!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ SV 9/7-9/11

This week, the Savanna children continued exploring our Sharing the Planet: Small Creatures unit. We began exploring LOI 3: Ways people help and protect small creatures and learned that even small actions can make a big difference in caring for the small creatures around us.

The Savanna students looked at different pictures of people interacting with small creatures and sorted them into Helpful and Not Helpful. They discussed why some actions are good for small creatures, while others may hurt them. Through this activity, the children learned that we can protect small creatures by being gentle and caring. Some of their ideas about how to be caring were: “Touch them gently. Give them food. Don’t kick them. Don’t step on them.”

We also learned more about why small creatures are important to us and why we need them. We watched a video and learned how small creatures help us in different ways. The children discovered that bees, butterflies, and beetles help plants grow fruits and seeds, earthworms help keep the soil healthy, and ladybugs and spiders eat pests that can harm plants. They enjoyed matching each small creature with the way it helps nature and shared their ideas during our discussions. These activities encouraged the children to become more Caring, Knowledgeable, and Principled learners.

During our Show and Tell, one of our friends brought a butterfly that she had grown at home from a caterpillar. She shared how she took care of it, and everyone was amazed to see how it had transformed into a beautiful butterfly. 🦋 Some of them also brought a lizard, roly polies, and books about small creatures where we can see their life cycles and different kinds, colors, and sizes of small creatures.

Alongside our UOI learning, we have also been busy practicing for our Sports Festival! We had our last practice at the gym, where we focused on the things we needed to improve and the things we were already doing well. And finally, on Friday, we had our Sports Festival! Everyone was so excited and did their best. They wore the small creature costume of their choice and had fun showing what they had been working hard on for the past few weeks. They did their best to run as fast as they could to finish the race, and they were very competitive during the shooting ball game! Most importantly, they all had fun, encouraged one another, and gave their best effort. Great job, everyone! We are so proud of you, especially your parents! 🎉👏

It has been wonderful to see the children learning to care for small creatures while also developing teamwork, confidence, and perseverance through their Sports Festival practices. We are so proud of all their hard work and the enthusiasm they showed on Sports Festival Day! 🌱🐝💪
