A Short but Exciting Week!
It was a short week for us, with just two days of school because of Silver Week! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable mini break.
We focused on our FICTS presentations, as presentation day is this Sunday. We put the finishing touches on our work and practised how we would present on the day. There has been so much improvement in just two days, and it has been exciting to see the students becoming more confident and prepared!
We also began exploring Nagano in the past. We looked at photographs of Nagano from different periods and discussed what had changed and what had stayed the same.
We then read a historical fiction story set in Nakano in 1927, which contained lots of historical clues and factual background. We used these clues to investigate what life was like in the past. We discovered that people had to collect water from wells and that piped water was not available until around 1927. We also learned about the many silkworm farms in the area and the arrival of the steam train in Shinshu-Nakano in 1924.
Next week, we are looking forward to reading more historical stories, including some horror stories! We will use the historical clues we discover to help us understand the past before creating and writing our own historical fiction stories set in Nagano.
