During this week, as we began our new unit, How We Express Ourselves, the children were invited to participate in a gallery walk, a first-time experience for the class. Tables were adorned with a variety of pictures showing people expressing different feelings. The children were excited to explore the gallery. They moved around the tables, looking closely at the pictures, touching them, sharing their discoveries with one another, and expressing their thoughts about what they saw. One child saw a picture of an African child and immediately exclaimed, “This is Ms Susuana!” This spontaneous connection showed how the children were relating the images to familiar people in their lives. Their curiosity were evident as they engaged with the images and began making connections with the feelings depicted. Words such as sad, sleepy, happy, and angry emerged readily in their conversations. As they continued exploring, some less expected words, such as surprised and strong, also surfaced, revealing the different ways the children interpreted the images.

The learners participated in an earthquake and fire drill alongside the whole school, following the expected procedures calmly and responsibly. They demonstrated an understanding of the importance of keeping themselves and others safe during an emergency.Following the drill, the learners had an opportunity to share their thoughts and recall the safety rules. They eagerly raised their hands to contribute, reminding one another of important instructions, such as no running, staying quiet, no pushing, not going back, and covering their mouths when necessary. The experience provided a meaningful opportunity for the learners to revisit their prior knowledge, strengthen their understanding of emergency procedures.

Also, They continued to build their confidence and develop greater fluidity in the water during their swimming session. They demonstrated improving breath control as they practised moving underwater and passing through hoops. These activities encouraged them to coordinate their movements, regulate their breathing, and navigate the water with increasing ease. It was encouraging see how much their swimming skills are developing in water.
Even though, the week was shorter the usual, it was amazing. We look forward to building on these experiences we have had as our learning journey continues.
