We had a really fun week this week. Our new unit of inquiry is focusing on our feelings, emotions, and how we express ourselves through stories.
Students talked about what the meaning of “feelings” is. We talked about when we feel happy, sad, sleepy, excited, grumpy. Then we practiced what it looks like when we have those feelings. Students’ faces were so expressive, and I was so impressed to see how everyone can show their feelings using their bodies!
We also looked at different kinds of stories and tried to identify the feelings of the characters in the stories. We looked at the three little pigs, and another story called “I don’t want to be a frog”. Students were interested in the different feelings and emotions of characters, and how they knew the characters were feeling that way. By doing this, we were not only exploring our own emotions, but also developing our empathy and social skills by considering feelings as abstracted phenomena.
I’m so excited to see where we go next week when we start playing pretend more, and imagining, empathising, and understanding feelings.
