BRIGHT BEGINNINGS- Shooting Star April 13th-17th – International School of Nagano

Hello, everyone! Welcome to our blog for this week.

We started this week with a birthday party blast! The students had so much fun playing a game called “Commands and Actions,” where they followed exciting instructions such as “buzz like a bee,” “bloom like a flower,” “the sun is shining,” and “freeze.” Everyone was actively engaged, listening carefully, and expressing themselves through movement and creativity. The activity created a joyful and energetic atmosphere, making it a wonderful way to begin the week together. Happy birthday to our three little ones!

みなさんこんにちは！今週は、にぎやかなお誕生日会からスタートしました！子どもたちは「Commands and Actions」というゲームを楽しみ、「ハチのようにブンブン飛ぼう！」「お花のように咲こう！」「太陽が輝いているよ！」「ストップ！」などの楽しいかけ声に従って体を動かしました。みんなよく聞きながら動いて表現していました。お部屋全体が笑顔あふれ、週の始まりにぴったりの素敵な時間となりました。

During our earthquake drill, we learned the important do’s and don’ts to keep ourselves safe. We practiced the safety rule “O, HA, SHI, MO,” which reminds us what to do during an emergency. “O” means not to push (osanai), “HA” means not to run (hashiranai), “SHI” means not to talk (shaberanai), and “MO” means not to go back (modoranai). We followed our teacher’s instructions carefully, stayed calm, and moved to a safe area in an orderly way. This drill helped us understand how to act quickly and safely during an earthquake.

今年度最初の、地震を想定した避難訓練がありました。安全に身を守るために大切な行動について学びました。避難の時の大切なルール「お・は・し・も」の約束：「お」押さない、「は」走らない、「し」しゃべらない、「も」戻らない、を確認しながら行動しました。子どもたちは先生の指示をよく聞き、落ち着いて行動しながら、安全な場所へ整然と避難することができました。この訓練を通して、地震の際にどのように素早く安全に行動するかを学ぶことができました。

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, the students began their prior knowledge assessment with a sorting activity, where they selected a picture and identified whether it showed a family or not. They also drew their own families to further express their understanding. These activities allowed them to share what they think a family looks like and who belongs to their family. Through their drawings, the students expressed their ideas, experiences, and perspectives in a meaningful and creative way. This also helped the teacher gain insight into their current knowledge and use it as a starting point for deeper discussions and learning about different types of families.

Unit of Inquiryの一環として、子どもたちは始めの理解度を把握する活動に取り組みました。写真を見て、それが「家族」であるかどうかを分類するアクティビティを行い、それぞれがどのように家族を捉えているのかを考えました。また、自分の家族の絵を描くことで、家族についての理解をさらに表現しました。これらの活動を通して、子どもたちは「家族とはどのようなものか」「誰が家族なのか」といった考えを共有することができました。子どもたちの絵からは、それぞれの考えや経験、見方が豊かに表現されており、クリエイティブな活動となりました。また、私たちにとっても、子どもたちの今の理解を知る良い機会となり、さまざまな家族の形について、今後のより深い探究や学びへとつなげていきます。

In our writing lesson, the students learned how to hold their pencils properly and practiced correct writing techniques. They also worked on tracing their names carefully and neatly. This activity helped them develop their fine motor skills, improve their handwriting, and build confidence in writing their own names.

ライティングのレッスンでは、正しい鉛筆の持ち方を学び、書くときの基本的な姿勢や方法を練習しました。また、自分の名前をなぞりながら、丁寧に書くことにも取り組みました。この活動を通して、手先の細かな動き（微細運動）の発達を促し、文字を書く力の向上や、自分の名前を書くことへの自信を育むことができました。
