Our visit to the Fire Station-Shooting Star-February 10th-14th

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This week, Shooting Star class was engaged into various meaningful learning activities. First of all, we made a reflection of our visit to the Post Office last week to assess students’ understanding on how post office community helpers help us through class discussion and individual worksheet activity. Then, students were asked a question, What do you think would happen if there were no mail carriers? Students drew the possible situation that might happen to show their predictions. Most of the students said, I will be sad without mail carriers because I can’t send my postcard to my daddy and mommy. What’s more? We made our own post office building and painted it together. It has a mail box where we can place our postcards for our friends in Shooting Star. We set up a writing workstation where everyone can write postcards to their friends and placed them in the mailbox. And in the afternoon, students can collect them. What made it wonderful is the fact that students have learned to show and express their affection towards their peers.

今週はいろいろなアクティビティーを経験しました。先週の郵便局見学のRefrectionとして、ワークシートを使って理解を深めたり、もしも郵便局がなくなったら、、、という世界について考え、想像し、その世界を絵にかいてみました。ほとんどの子ども達は、お手紙をパパとママに出すこともできないからとても悲しい、と気持ちを表現していました。そのほかには、クラスで大きなPOST OFFICEを制作しました。大きな段ボールに窓やドアをつけて郵便マークを描き、色塗りをしました。毎朝のワークステイションにお手紙を書くコーナーを作り、大好きなお友達にお手紙を書いて郵便ポストに入れて郵便ごっこを楽しんでいます。その日の午後にはお手紙がお友達に着くように配達もしています！

We had another tour, and this time we visited the fire station. How exciting the trip was! The firefighters greeted us with a warm “Konnichiwa” and we greeted back at them, too. Then, they showed us the four kinds of vehicles that they use; two rescue trucks, tank truck, and the ambulance. They explained to us what those vehicles are for and they showed us different tools in each vehicle. They didn’t only show us the vehicles, but they allowed us to get on them as well. Furthermore, they showed us how high the truck ladder could go. Can you imagine that? It could go up to 30 meters high! Shooting Star class exclaimed and said, Woah! Then, we took a group photo and before we left the vicinity, we asked them questions. We learned a lot of things from our excursion.

今週金曜日には、松本渚消防署へ見学に行きました。子ども達が大興奮で喜んだことは言うまでもありません！消防士の方が「こんにちは！」と迎えてくれ、子ども達もご挨拶！4台の消防署にある車を見せてくれました。２台のレスキュー車、消防車、そして救急車です。それぞれの車の説明を、何のために使うのか、どんな道具が乗っているのか、一つひとつ丁寧に見せてくれました。見せてくれただけではなく、それぞれの車に乗せてくれました！ハシゴ搭載のレスキュー車が、どれだけ高いところまで救助に行くことができるのかも実際に見せてくれました。なんと、３０M（約６階建てのビル）もの高さまで、ほんの数秒で到達することができます。このカッコよいレスキュー車の前で記念を写真を撮りました。たくさんの質問もすることができ、たくさんの事を学びました。
