This week was an exciting one for Milky Way as we continued our Unit of Inquiry and took some big steps forward with our Sports Festival obstacle project. The project has given the students a chance to put our Central Idea, “Teamwork enables people to achieve common goals,” into action. Over the past few weeks, the teams have gathered ideas, listened to different opinions, made decisions together, and worked towards creating an obstacle that everyone in their team could be proud of.
今週のMilky Wayでは、Unit of Inquiry（UOI）の学びを続けながら、スポーツフェスティバルの障害物プロジェクトを大きく進めることができました。このプロジェクトでは、Central Ideaである**「チームワークによって、人々は共通の目標を達成することができる」**という考えを、実際の活動を通して学んでいます。これまでチームでアイデアを集め、友だちの意見を聞き、話し合いながら、みんなが納得できる障害物を作ることに取り組んできました。
Sharing Our Learning on Open Day
Monday’s Open Day was a special opportunity for the students to share this learning with their families. Rather than simply showing a finished product, the students were able to show their parents how they have been working together. They shared what they had been doing for the Sports Festival project and received feedback from their parents about their obstacle ideas.
This feedback became another important part of the project. The students could listen to new ideas, think about what might make their obstacle better, and then decide together what they wanted to use as they moved forward. Thank you to all of the parents who joined us and became part of our learning!
月曜日のOpen Dayでは、子どもたちがこれまでの学びをお家の方に伝える特別な機会となりました。完成したものを見せるだけではなく、スポーツフェスティバルのプロジェクトでどのようにチームで協力してきたのかを紹介し、自分たちの障害物についてお家の方からフィードバックをもらいました。
いただいたフィードバックも、プロジェクトの大切な学びの一つとなりました。新しいアイデアに耳を傾け、「もっと良くするにはどうしたらいいかな？」と考えながら、チームで次のステップを決めていきました。Open Dayに参加し、子どもたちの学びに加わってくださった保護者の皆さま、ありがとうございました！
From Our First Idea to the Final Version
After Open Day, the teams continued to review, test, discuss, and improve their obstacles. They thought about the feedback they received as well as what they had discovered themselves while building and trying their ideas.
By the end of the week, each team was ready to create their final version! It has been wonderful to see how the obstacles have developed, but even more importantly, to see how the students themselves have grown through the process. They have had to communicate, listen to different perspectives, solve problems, and sometimes change their own ideas for the good of the team.
Now, after all of their planning and hard work, we are excited to use their creations at the Sports Festival!
Open Dayの後も、チームで障害物を見直し、試し、話し合い、改善する活動を続けました。お家の方からもらったフィードバックや、実際に作って試してみて気づいたことをもとに、「どこを変えたらもっと良くなるかな？」と考えました。
そして週の終わりには、それぞれのチームが障害物の最終バージョンを完成させることができました！障害物が少しずつ形になっていくことはもちろんですが、それ以上に、プロジェクトを通して子どもたち自身が成長していく姿を見ることができました。友だちに自分の考えを伝えること、違う意見を聞くこと、問題を一緒に解決すること、そして時にはチームのために自分の考えを変えることも経験しました。
たくさんの話し合いと頑張りを重ねて完成した障害物を、スポーツフェスティバルで実際に使うことをみんなで楽しみにしています！
