2026 Sydney Study Tour Day 2 | Debate Practice & Exploring the Sydney Opera House!
さあ、少し間が開いてしまいましたがSydney Study Tour記録、Day2から参りましょう！🐨
朝はスーパーマーケットで購入したフルーツやヨーグルト、シリアル、クロワッサンなどを皆で食べながら、その日のスケジュール確認と個人目標の設定を行いました。この朝のルーティンは、シドニー滞在中毎日続けています。
午前中は、Deep Diveのクラスルームでディベート練習に取り組みました。ディベートに慣れていない児童もいるため、頭を悩ませながら自分の意見や文章を考えていましたが、全員がとても熱心に取り組んでいました。
今回のディベートテーマは「学校は給食を提供するべきか」です。明日も引き続き準備を進め、本番に向けて自信をつけていきます。
昼食は、オーストラリアでも人気のバインミーサンドイッチをいただきました。
午後は、児童たちが楽しみにしていたオペラハウスの英語ガイドツアーへ向かいました。
オペラハウスへは、オーストラリアの電車を利用して移動しました。初めて乗る2階建ての大きな電車に児童たちは興味津々で、「行きは2階、帰りは1階に座ろう！」と楽しそうに話していました。初日は日本語での会話も見られましたが、日が経つにつれて英語での会話が増えてきています。シドニーで働く日本人の方と日本語で話すことを少し照れくさそうにしている様子も見られました。
約1時間のオペラハウスツアーでは、ガイドの説明を真剣に聞きながら写真を撮り、最後には全員が英語で質問に挑戦しました。中には6回以上質問をした児童もおり、積極的に英語を使おうとする姿勢がとても印象的でした。
今回、なんと見学中に本物のオーケストラの練習風景を見ることができました！
弦楽器、打楽器など練習の様子を見て、参加児童の中にはバイオリンやチェロを習っている子が何名かいたので皆興奮して様子を見ていました🎻
夕食は、オペラハウスを間近に望み、シドニーハーバーとハーバーブリッジを一望できる素敵なレストランでいただきました。今回のツアーで特に感心しているのは、児童たちが好き嫌いをせず、さまざまな食べ物に積極的に挑戦していることです。朝昼晩しっかり食べながら、適度にスナックやデザートも楽しんでいます。また、薬を決まった時間に飲んだり、コンタクトレンズの管理をしたりと、それぞれが自己管理にも一生懸命取り組んでいます。
本日も21時に就寝しました。宿題を終えた児童たちは、就寝前まで枕投げをして楽しむ姿も見られました。五常キャンパスと中野キャンパスの児童たちもすっかり打ち解け、楽しい時間を過ごしています。
明日も充実した一日となるよう、しっかり休んで備えます。
2026 Sydney Study Tour Day 2 | Debate Practice & Exploring the Sydney Opera House!
Each morning, the students enjoy breakfast together, including fruit, yogurt, cereal, and croissants purchased from a local supermarket. While eating, they review the day’s schedule and set their individual goals for the day. This has become a daily routine throughout our stay in Sydney.
We then spent the entire morning in the Deep Dive classroom practicing for our debate. Since debate is a new experience for some of the students, many spent time carefully thinking through their arguments and writing their speeches. Everyone worked incredibly hard and remained highly engaged throughout the session.
The debate topic is: “Should schools provide school lunches?” We will continue preparing tomorrow so that everyone feels ready and confident.
For lunch, we enjoyed delicious bánh mì sandwiches.
After class, it was time for one of the highlights of the trip—the Opera House tour, conducted entirely in English.
For many students, this was their first experience riding an Australian train. Everyone was fascinated by the large double-decker trains, and some even made plans such as sitting on the upper level on the way there and the lower level on the way back.
While Japanese was occasionally spoken on the first day, the students are now communicating more frequently in English. Some even seemed a little shy when speaking Japanese with Japanese people working in Sydney.
During the one-hour Opera House tour, the students listened attentively, took plenty of photos, and challenged themselves to ask questions in English at the end. One student even asked more than six questions, demonstrating great enthusiasm and confidence.
For dinner, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at a restaurant with breathtaking views of the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour, and the Harbour Bridge.
One thing that has particularly impressed us is the students’ willingness to try new foods. They have approached every meal with enthusiasm and have been eating well throughout the trip, while also enjoying snacks and desserts in moderation.
The students have also done an excellent job managing themselves independently, whether that means taking medication on time or remembering their evening contact lens routines.
Everyone was in bed by 9:00 p.m. tonight. Those who finished their homework early enjoyed a cheerful pillow fight before lights out. Students from the Gojo and Nakano Campuses have become great friends, and it has been wonderful to see them bonding throughout the trip.
After a full and exciting day, everyone is getting a good night’s rest and looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures.
