今朝もいつも通り朝食を済ませた後、ホテルのラウンジでプレゼンテーションの最終確認を行いました。そうです！本日は、いよいよNarrawena Public SchoolでのDebate & Presentation本番の日です！👀
保護者の皆さまも、一番気になっていた一日だったのではないでしょうか。まずはホテルロビーにて、一人ひとりがプレゼンテーションを通しで発表しました。これまでの練習の成果が感じられ、皆とても堂々と発表してくれました。
練習を終えると、早速Narrawena Public Schoolへ向かいます。今回も電車・バス・メトロを利用して移動しました。シドニーのメトロは比較的新しく、子どもたちも興味津々でした。
「移動時間は何をしているの？」と気になる方もいるかもしれません。Sydney Study Tourでは、移動時間も学びの時間です。プレゼンテーションの練習をしたり、英語でゲームをしたり、Deep Diveの先生たちと会話をしたりと、退屈する暇はありません。
また、子どもたちはすっかりDeep Diveチームとも打ち解け、「Corey!」「Frank!」と自分から積極的に話しかける姿が見られるようになりました。
そして、ついにNarrawena Public Schoolへ到着！
校長先生のMr. Rodが温かく迎えてくださり、まずはオフィスで来校者登録を行いました。オーストラリアの学校はセキュリティ管理が非常に厳格です。その後、Grade 6の教室へ向かうと、現地の児童たちが大きな拍手で迎えてくれました。
ISNの児童たちは少し緊張した様子でしたが、歓迎ムードに包まれながら、一人ずつ自己紹介を行いました。
自己紹介の後には、Narrawenaの児童たちからたくさんの質問が飛び交いました。
- ISNの学校は何時から何時までですか？
- 好きな食べ物は何ですか？
- 「Hello, how are you?」は日本語で何と言いますか？
- どんなアニメがありますか？
など、多くの質問に対して、少し照れながらも一生懸命答えていました。
その後は昼食の時間です。この日はNarrawenaのキャンティーン（食堂）で実際に販売されているメニューの中から好きなものを選びました。寿司、ミートパイ、ピザ、ソーセージロールなど、オーストラリアの学校ならではのメニューを楽しみました。
そして、いよいよDebate本番です！机と椅子が並べられ、多くの観客が見守る中でディベートが行われました。
今回のテーマは、“Should schools provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for students?” ISNチームは「学校は食事を提供するべきである」という肯定側を担当しました。何度も練習を重ね、本番直前まで大きな声で話すことを意識して準備してきた成果がしっかり発揮されていました。
そして結果は……ISNチームの勝利！！
最後まで諦めずに挑戦した子どもたちの努力が実を結びました。ぜひ今日の感想を、お子さまから直接聞いてみてください。ディベートの興奮が冷める間もなく、続いてはプレゼンテーション発表です！
Grade 5・6の児童たちがホールに集まり、大勢の観客の前で発表を行いました。全員が緊張しながらも、自信を持って堂々と発表し、本当に素晴らしいプレゼンテーションを披露してくれました。
現地の先生方からも、「第二言語で、しかも海外でプレゼンテーションを行うなんて本当に勇気があり素晴らしいです。」という温かいコメントをたくさんいただきました。また、発表の中で取り入れたクイズコーナーは大盛り上がり！
日本や長野について、現地の児童たちに楽しく知ってもらうことができました。
中には日本を訪れたことがある児童や先生もおり、ISNチームの発表が少しでも記憶に残ってくれたら嬉しいですね。本当に全員が誇らしく、頼もしい姿を見せてくれました。
プレゼンテーション終了後はGrade 6の教室へ戻り、下校までの時間を現地児童と一緒に過ごしました。
グループ活動では、Narrawenaの児童たちがISNの児童をそれぞれのグループへ招待し、一緒に活動に取り組みました。
「僕たちのグループに来て！」
「こっちにおいで！」
「まだ席が空いているよ！」と、ISNの児童たちは大人気。次々と声を掛けられながら活動に参加していました。
現地校で実際に授業を受け、同世代の児童たちと交流できたことは、子どもたちにとってかけがえのない経験になったことでしょう。
最後になりますが、本日までプレゼンテーション準備をサポートしてくださった保護者の皆さま、本当にありがとうございました。ご家庭でのご協力のおかげで、子どもたちは自信を持って発表することができました。
本日の子どもたちの姿は、本当に誇らしく、輝いていました。
After breakfast this morning, the students gathered in the hotel lounge for one final presentation rehearsal.
Today was the day everyone had been waiting for—the Debate and Presentation Day at Narraweena Public School!
Before leaving, each student delivered their presentation in front of Mr. Frank and Ms. Mika. It was wonderful to see how much confidence and preparation they had gained over the past few days.
After the rehearsal, we set off for Narraweena Public School using Sydney’s train, bus, and metro systems. The metro is one of Sydney’s newer transportation systems, and the students were fascinated by the experience.
Even during travel time, learning never stops on the Sydney Study Tour. Students practiced their presentations, played games in English, and continued conversations with the Deep Dive team. By now, everyone has become very comfortable with the instructors, and it was lovely to hear students confidently calling out, “Corey!” and “Frank!” throughout the day.
Upon arriving at Narraweena Public School, we received a warm welcome from Principal Mr. Rod. After registering as visitors in the school office—a standard security procedure in Australian schools—we headed to a Grade 6 classroom.
The local students greeted our group with enthusiastic applause. Although the ISN students looked a little nervous at first, they soon introduced themselves and began interacting with their Australian peers.
The Narraweena students had many questions, including:
- What time does school start and finish at ISN?
- What is your favorite food?
- How do you say “Hello, how are you?” in Japanese?
- What kinds of anime are popular in Japan?
The students answered thoughtfully and did a wonderful job representing ISN.
Afterward, everyone enjoyed lunch from the school canteen. Students selected their meals from the regular menu, choosing from options such as sushi, meat pies, pizza, and sausage rolls.
Then came the main event—the Debate!
The topic was: “Should schools provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for students?” The ISN team took the affirmative position, arguing that schools should provide meals for students.
After days of preparation and practice, the students delivered their arguments with confidence, clear voices, and excellent teamwork.
And the result was…The ISN team won the debate!
Their hard work, determination, and teamwork truly paid off. Soon after the debate, it was time for the presentations.
Grade 5 and Grade 6 students gathered in the school hall to watch. Despite their nerves, every student delivered an outstanding presentation.
Teachers at Narraweena commented on how impressive it was to see students confidently presenting in their second language while overseas. The quiz sections included in each presentation were especially popular and generated lots of excitement from the audience. Through these presentations, the students were able to share information about Japan and Nagano while creating meaningful cultural connections.
After the presentations, the students returned to the Grade 6 classroom to participate in group activities with the local students. The Narraweena students eagerly invited the ISN students to join their groups, calling out:
“Come join our group!”
“We’d love to have you!”
“We still have room over here!” The ISN students quickly became very popular and were welcomed warmly by their new friends.
Spending time in a local Australian classroom and learning alongside Australian students was a truly valuable experience that will remain a special memory for years to come.
