今朝もいつも通り、みんなで朝食を食べながら1日をスタートしました。今日は初めてシドニーの朝のニュース番組を見ながら朝食をとりました。児童たちは、現地でどのような出来事が起きているのか興味津々でニュースに見入っていました。
朝食後は、Mr. CoreyとMr. Frankの運転でClovelly Beachへ向かいました。まずはビーチへ降りて散策です。今日はとても良いお天気でしたが、風が強かったため体感温度は20℃ほどで少し肌寒く感じました。海に入れるか心配していましたが、水温は予想以上に暖かく、水着に着替えた児童たちは早速水遊びを楽しみました。
波が高い場所には近づかず、安全な範囲の中で遊びました。また、ビーチの横にある公共のタイドプールでも楽しい時間を過ごしました。タイドプールは海とつながっている天然の海水プールで、シドニーならではの魅力のひとつです。心配していたクラゲも見られず、安心して楽しむことができました。
その後は、オーストラリアで人気のスポーツ「Lawn Bowls」に挑戦しました。
Lawn Bowlsは、カーリングとボウリングを組み合わせたようなスポーツです。イギリス発祥ですが、オーストラリアでも広く親しまれています。実はボールの片側が重く作られているため、思った通りに転がすのが意外と難しく、最初は苦戦する様子も見られました。しかし、その難しさも含めてみんな楽しみながら取り組んでいました。
1ゲーム終えた頃には、楽しみにしていたBBQランチの準備ができていました。今回のツアーでは「カンガルー肉を食べる！」という目標をBINGOに書いていた児童もおり、Mr. Frankたちも精肉店やスーパーで探してくれていたのですが、残念ながらBBQ用のカンガルー肉を見つけることができませんでした。
もし機会があれば、明日も引き続き探してみたいと思います。
今回はカンガルー肉の代わりに、ステーキ、ソーセージ、ラム肉をパンと一緒にいただきました。普段あまりソーセージを食べないという児童も、おかわりをしながら美味しそうに食べていました。たくさん遊び、たくさん食べた後の帰り道では、車内で眠ってしまう児童もたくさんいました。
この後はホテル周辺を散策しながら夕食を購入する予定です。少し疲れが見え始めている児童もいますので、引き続き体調管理に気を付けながら無理のないペースで活動していきます。
そして、いよいよ明日はツアー最終日です。最後までたくさんの学びと素敵な思い出を作れるよう、充実した一日にしたいと思います！
2026 Sydney Study Tour Day 7 | Beach Fun, Lawn Bowls & Aussie BBQ! 🏖️
This morning, we started the day with breakfast together as usual.
For the first time during the tour, the students watched a local Sydney morning news program while eating. They were very curious about what was happening in the local community and paid close attention to the news stories being discussed.
After breakfast, Mr. Corey and Mr. Frank drove the group to Clovelly Beach.
We began by exploring the beach and enjoying the beautiful scenery. Although the weather was sunny and the forecast predicted a high of 24°C, the strong wind made it feel much cooler—closer to 20°C.
Despite the cooler air temperature, the ocean water was surprisingly warm. The students quickly changed into their swimsuits and enjoyed spending time in the water.
For safety, everyone stayed within designated areas and avoided sections with larger waves. The students also spent time in the public tidal pool located beside the beach.
The tidal pool is connected directly to the ocean, creating a unique saltwater swimming experience. Fortunately, there were no jellyfish, and everyone was able to enjoy the water safely.
After our beach activities, the students had the opportunity to try Lawn Bowls, a popular Australian sport.
Lawn Bowls is often described as a combination of curling and bowling. Although it originated in the United Kingdom, it remains a beloved community sport throughout Australia.
The game is more challenging than it looks because one side of the bowl is slightly heavier than the other, causing it to curve as it rolls. The students enjoyed learning the technique and had lots of fun even when the bowls did not go exactly where they intended.
After one game, it was time for a well-deserved BBQ lunch.
Many students had been looking forward to trying kangaroo meat, and some had even included it on their Australia BINGO challenge cards. Mr. Frank and the team checked several supermarkets and butcher shops, but unfortunately were unable to find kangaroo meat suitable for a BBQ.
If an opportunity arises tomorrow, we will continue looking.
Although kangaroo was unavailable, the students enjoyed a delicious Australian-style BBQ featuring steak, sausages, and lamb served with fresh bread. Even students who normally do not eat much sausage happily finished their meals and asked for more.
After a busy day filled with outdoor activities, many students fell asleep during the ride back.
Later this afternoon, we will take a short walk around the hotel area and pick up dinner. Some students are beginning to show signs of tiredness after a very active week, so we will continue to prioritize rest and wellbeing while enjoying the remaining activities.
Tomorrow is already the final day of the Sydney Study Tour.
We look forward to making the most of our last day together and creating even more wonderful memories before returning home.
