This week, we read four stories: Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, The Wolf and the Five Goats, and The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf. After reading each story, we discussed how the children felt and explored the characters’ emotions by looking at their facial expressions and actions.
The children described the characters’ feelings using words such as hungry, scared, excited, happy, tired, angry, sleepy, and surprised. They also learned new words, including afraid, bored, silly, worried, overjoyed, nervous, and relaxed. We will continue to practise these words during our daily conversations and storytelling activities to help the children express their thoughts and feelings more confidently.
They also had the opportunity to sort several faces into sad and happy categories. They did this activity with so much ease.
We also introduced the children to the calming-down corner and discussed how they could use this space when they feel very angry or overwhelmed. Some children were eager to pretend to be angry and demonstrate how they could calm themselves down. They also learned the five-finger breathing technique, where they trace their fingers while breathing in and out slowly. This simple activity helps them relax and manage their emotions when they feel upset or frustrated.

After reading all four stories, the children voted for their favorite and chose the story they would like to role-play for the upcoming Winter Show. This encouraged them to share their opinions, listen to their friends, and make a decision together. We look forward to seeing them bring their chosen story to life!
As part of this unit, we are using a selection of songs below to help the children explore and express their feelings in fun and engaging ways.
As the Halloween spirit fills the air with mystery and excitement, let the music the children are practicing singing and dancing to, set the mood for this celebration.
During the music lesson, the children were introduced to the two eighth notes. They practiced moving their feet to the rhythm of these notes, along with the notes they had learned previously. They explored different movements, such as walking, running, and stomping, according to the rhythm and tempo of each note. Whenever the new note was played, the children were encouraged to skip along to the beat. This fun and interactive activity helped them develop their rhythmic awareness and ability to recognize different musical notes.
The students were exceptionally excited during their gym session! After a warm-up activity, two sets of seven hoops were arranged on the floor in a hopscotch-like pattern. The arrangement included single hoops and pairs of hoops placed side by side, creating an engaging hopping challenge. The students were divided into two groups and lined up, eagerly waiting for their turns. Each child was encouraged to hop through the hoops, landing with both feet inside the single hoops and spreading their legs to land one foot in each hoop when they reached the paired hoops. Some students hopped through the course with ease and confidence, while others took their time and carefully planned each jump. It was wonderful to see them having fun while developing their balance, coordination, and gross motor skills!
We all had fun this week and hope to have fantastic weeks ahead.
