Savanna: Let the Inquiries Begin!

Our wonderings came fast and furious as we begin asking questions. Why spiders have these long things, strings? Strings are spider’s house? Why dragonflies have wings? How many eyes for spider? We learned that minibeasts are bugs, spiders, insects, snails, centipedes. These are invertebrates which mean animals with no backbones. Insects have 6 legs and some have wings. Do humans have backbones? Yes, and we felt the bones from our necks right down to our backs. We examined Slimy, our class snail. He doesn’t look like he has any bones!

Savanna drew as many minibeasts as we can to think of – What I Know so far. Towards the end of our unit in 3 months time, we will revisit this document to find out how much we have learned, or any misconceptions we had to correct. Facts and information can be gathered from books, websites, and from our experiences. A student from Rainforest shared with us his experience catching bugs, especially long-horn beetles. Berry leaves are his lunch, he told us.

We had a fire evacuation drill. Savanna was calm and listened well to instructions as they evacuated out of the school building. We reviewed:

O-HA-SHI-MO-TE

Osanai 押さない Do not push

Hashiranai 走らない Do not run

Shaberanai しゃべらないで Do not speak

Modoranai 戻らない Do not return

Te 手 Cover your mouth with your hands

We had a cross-campus playdate. Shooting Star from Minami Campus came to Shimauchi Campus. We played in the schoolyard and had lunch together. It was great fun! Savanna went to a little river in the park with Rainforest earlier in the week to cool off. We floated boats made of leaves!

We finally harvested our radishes. Quite small though they were, we enjoyed picking our little radishes. We figured out that the caterpillars got to them first. Our crops were quite bare as most leaves were eaten! We drew them in our final entry for Plant Diary. Till next week, take care and Happy Marine Day!
