インターナショナルスクール = 日本語が弱い?
—国際学校 = 英語がそれほど強くない?
の神話を耳にしたことがあるかもしれません。
そもそも日本のインターナショナルスクールは、外国籍の家庭の子供達を、日本滞在期間中、日本語ではない言語で高い標準で教育が受けられるように始まったものです。今でもほとんどのインターナショナルスクールと呼ばれる歴史ある学校は、一条校では無い場合が多いです。日本の教育を受ける必要が無い外国籍の子供達の教育内容を世界の水準に合わせるために、日本の指導要領に基準を合わせることが出来ないことが、日本の一条校のカテゴリーに入ることが出来ない理由の一つにあるでしょう。
ISNの生徒達のアイデンティティーは日本にあります。外国籍を持つ生徒もいますが、大多数の生徒達は、日本人のご家庭の下に育つ。

生徒達は教科書に出てくるような日本語、英語のレベル、もしくはもっと上級の本を毎日夢中になって読んで、感想を話し合っています。ISN生にとって英語は初めの1歩。でも皆、かっこいいですー 😎
Does being an international school mean that the Japanese level is low or that it is not as important as the English level? This is a myth I heard many times.
From the first time they were introduced, the international schools in Japan aimed to offer a high standard of education in non-Japanese languages to foreign families staying in Japan. Even now, the international schools that have a long history, are most often not separate from Japanese schools. It is very difficult to standardize the education program created for foreign nationals and make it work with Japanese education guidelines.
The ISN students’ identity is Japanese. Some of the students are foreigners, but most of them have grown up in Japanese families. Their understanding of the Japanese language and culture is strong. They grew up with love of Matsumoto and its beautiful surroundings. They love to play in nature. They know that they are loved by their family, friends, teachers and school staff.
Furthermore, their English level is very high. They have a unique, worldly, point of view. They have developed social skills. They are good at doing things they like. They are happy. They are confident.
They were born in this beautiful land with a sense of pride in their identity, and they are ready to show it to the world! This is what makes ISN so unique.
The students are excitedly reading both their Japanese and English books and discussing their contents. For ISN students, English is just the first step. But isn’t everyone so cool? 😎
