こんにちは。
今週も、Milky Wayクラスではたくさんの学びと発見にあふれた一週間を過ごしました。
現在、子どもたちは「How We Organize Ourselves（私たちはどのように組織しているのか）」という探究テーマのもと、「チームワークによって、人は共通の目標を達成することができる」というセントラルアイデアについて学んでいます。さまざまな活動を通して、よいチームワークには、コミュニケーション、協力、責任の分担、そして互いの考えを尊重することが大切であることを少しずつ理解し始めています。
今週は、「探究の視点（Line of Inquiry）1：チームにはそれぞれの役割と責任がある」に焦点を当てて学習を進めました。
子どもたちは少人数のグループに分かれ、協力しながらロールプレイに挑戦しました。グループリーダーがそれぞれ異なる場面を選び、みんなで「どんな問題があるのか」「どうすれば解決できるのか」を話し合い、一人ひとりの役割を決め、セリフを考え、発表の準備を進めました。
この活動を通して、子どもたちはIBのATL（Approaches to Learning：学習のためのアプローチ）の中でも、特に「コミュニケーションスキル」と「ソーシャルスキル」を自然に育んでいました。
友達の意見に耳を傾けること、自分の考えを自信を持って伝えること、お互いを励まし合うこと、役割について話し合いながら決定すること、そして協力して共通の目標を目指すことなど、実際の場面の中でチームワークを実践する姿がたくさん見られました。子どもたちは、「協力する」ということは、一人ひとりの力を大切にしながら、みんなで力を合わせることだということを体験を通して学んでいます。
また、KWLチャート（「知っていること・知りたいこと・学んだこと」）を振り返る中で、子どもたちは次のような素敵な質問を考えました。
・なぜチームワークは大切なの？
・よいチームメイトになるにはどうしたらいいの？
・みんなが協力すると何が起こるの？
・みんなが協力しなかったらどうなるの？
さらに、学びを振り返る中では、
「チームワークがあると、おそうじが早く終わるよ。」
「コミュニケーションが上手だと、チームワークもうまくいくね。」
といった気付きも共有してくれました。これらの考えはKWLチャートにも加えられ、話し合いや実体験を通して新しい理解を積み重ねていることがよく伝わってきました。
このユニットで特に嬉しく感じていることは、子どもたちが「探究する人（Inquirer）」として自信をつけてきていることです。日を追うごとに質問の内容が深まり、「どうしてだろう？」「もし〇〇だったら？」「なぜそうなるの？」と考える姿が増えてきました。教室で学んだことを日常生活と結び付けながら考える力も少しずつ育っています。
こうした力をさらに伸ばすため、毎朝のMorning Circleでは、その日に意識して取り組みたいATLスキルを一つ選び、目標を立てています。実際の生活場面の写真を見ながら、自分ならどんな力を使いたいかを考え、例えば次のような目標を立てています。
・「今日は、おもちゃをお友達と分け合ってソーシャルスキルを練習します。」
・「今日は、大きくはっきりした声で話してコミュニケーションスキルを練習します。」
・「今日は、難しくてもあきらめずに挑戦してシンキングスキルを練習します。」
そして、一日の終わりのAfternoon Circleでは、自分の目標を振り返り、「どんな場面でそのスキルを使うことができたか」「次はどんなことに挑戦したいか」をみんなで共有しています。頑張った子どもたちは特別なメダルを受け取り、「完璧であること」ではなく、「挑戦し続けること」が大切であることを楽しく学んでいます。
この毎日の振り返りを通して、子どもたちはIBラーナープロファイルの「オープンマインド（心を開いて考える人）」「コミュニケーター」「リフレクティブ（振り返る人）」としても大きく成長しています。
一人ひとりが毎日これらの姿勢を意識しながら過ごすことで、思いやりのある行動や前向きな選択が増え、お互いを支え合いながら、みんなが安心して学び、成長できる温かい学びのコミュニティが少しずつ育まれています。
Learning Together, Celebrating Together-Milky Way-July 27th-31st
Hello Everyone,
We warmly welcome you to another exciting week of learning in the Milky Way class! As we continue our inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme: How We Organize Ourselves, students have been discovering how teamwork enables people to achieve common goals. Through meaningful learning experiences, they are beginning to understand that successful teamwork is built on communication, cooperation, shared responsibility, and respect for one another’s ideas.
This week, our inquiry focused on Line of Inquiry 1: There are roles and responsibilities in a team.
Students worked collaboratively in small groups to create and perform role plays. Each group leader selected a different scenario, and together, the children discussed the problem, explored possible solutions, decided on roles, planned their dialogue, and prepared their performance.
Throughout this process, students naturally developed their Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills, particularly their Communication Skills and Social Skills. They practiced listening to different perspectives, expressing their own ideas with confidence, encouraging one another, negotiating roles, making shared decisions, and working cooperatively toward a common goal. It was inspiring to see students applying their understanding of teamwork in authentic situations, demonstrating that collaboration is about valuing every team member’s contribution while working together to achieve success.
As we revisited our KWL Chart, students continued to deepen their inquiry by asking thoughtful questions, including:
- Why is teamwork important?
- How can I be a good teammate?
- What happens when everyone helps?
- What happens if people do not work together?
Students also reflected on their growing understanding by sharing ideas such as, “Teamwork helps us finish cleaning faster,” and “Good communication makes teamwork better.” These reflections became valuable additions to our KWL Chart and showed how students are constructing new understanding through discussion and experience.
One of the highlights of this unit has been watching the children’s confidence as inquirers continue to grow. Their questions have become increasingly thoughtful, demonstrating stronger Thinking Skills as they wonder, predict, reason, and make meaningful connections between classroom learning and everyday life.
To further strengthen these skills, we continue our daily ATL goal-setting routine. During our Morning Circle, students select one ATL skill they would like to intentionally practice throughout the day. Using real-life situation photographs, they identify authentic situations and set personal goals such as:
“Today, I will practice my Social Skills by sharing toys with my friends.”
“Today, I will practice my Communication Skills by using a loud and clear voice.”
“Today, I will practice my Thinking Skills by trying again when something feels challenging.”
At the end of the day, students revisit these goals during our Afternoon Circle. They reflect on how they demonstrated their chosen skill in real situations, celebrate their successes, and recognize areas where they can continue to grow. Their efforts are celebrated with a special medal, reinforcing that learning is a journey of continuous growth rather than perfection.
These daily reflections have also helped students develop the IB Learner Profile Attributes of being Open-minded, Communicators, and Reflective learners. By intentionally practicing these attributes each day, students are learning that positive actions, thoughtful choices, and caring relationships help create a strong learning community where everyone can succeed together.
運動会に向けて チームとしての成長
子どもたちのチームワークについての学びは、教室の中だけでなく、運動会の練習へと広がっています。
今週は涼しい気候にも恵まれ、子どもたちは集中して意欲的に練習に取り組むことができました。練習を通して、お友達と協力する「ソーシャルスキル」、先生の話をよく聞き、合図に合わせて行動する「コミュニケーションスキル」、動きの順番を覚えたり、状況に応じて動きを調整したりする「シンキングスキル」を実践的に育んでいます。
また、お友達を応援したり、お互いの頑張りや成長を認め合ったりする温かい姿もたくさん見られました。
子どもたちは練習を重ねるごとに自信を深め、一人ひとりが大きく成長しています。毎回の練習を通して、責任感を持って行動し、仲間と協力しながら、振り返りを大切にする姿勢も少しずつ身に付いてきています。
運動会当日には、子どもたちが仲間と力を合わせ、一生懸命に取り組む姿をぜひ楽しみにしていてください。
Upcoming Sports Festival: Growing Through Teamwork
Our learning about teamwork extended beyond the classroom as students continued preparing for the upcoming Sports Festival.
The cooler weather this week provided comfortable conditions for practice, allowing students to remain focused, energetic, and fully engaged during the rehearsal. This rehearsal provided meaningful opportunities to strengthen Social Skills by cooperating with others, Communication Skills by listening carefully and responding to instructions, and Thinking Skills by remembering sequences and adjusting their movements when needed. We were delighted to see students encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s progress along the way. We are incredibly proud of how much confidence the children have already gained. Every practice is helping them become more responsible, cooperative, and reflective learners.
実際の体験から学ぶ 〜プールでの地震避難訓練〜
今週、子どもたちにとって特に印象に残る学びの一つとなったのが、プールでの水遊び中に実施した地震避難訓練です。
子どもたちが水遊びを楽しんでいる最中、地震を想定した緊急放送が流れました。子どもたちはすぐに遊びを止め、落ち着いてプールの決められた場所へ集まり、先生の指示を静かに待つことができました。その後、揺れが収まったことを想定し、安全を確認しながらプールから出て、プール横の人工芝へ避難しました。
避難訓練では、避難の手順を確認するだけではなく、「なぜその行動が必要なのか」をみんなで考える時間も大切にしました。
「本当に地震が起きたら、どんなことが起こるだろう？」
という問いをもとに話し合うと、子どもたちからは「建物や遊具が倒れるかもしれない」「プールの水が大きく揺れるかもしれない」など、さまざまな意見が出ました。そして、「だからこそ、駐車場のような広く安全な場所へ避難することが大切なんだね」という理解につながりました。
その中で、子どもたちの探究心を大きく刺激した質問がありました。
「もし靴が建物の中にあって、建物が壊れてしまったらどうするの？」
この問いをきっかけに、子どもたちはそれぞれの考えを出し合いながら、真剣に解決策を考えました。
「消防士さんに来てもらって、道具でがれきをどかしてもらう。」
「タオルを足に巻いて歩けば安全かもしれない。」
「最初からタオルと一緒に靴も外へ持って行けばいいんじゃない？」
友達の意見を聞きながら、「どれが一番安全で現実的だろう」と話し合い、最終的には「プールに入る前に、タオルと一緒に靴も外へ持って行くことが一番よい方法だね」という結論にたどり着きました。
子どもたちが自分たちで考え、意見を出し合いながら最善の方法を見つけていく姿からは、「シンキングスキル（考える力）」や「主体的に学ぶ力」が大きく育っていることを感じました。また、「みんなで考えることで、よりよい答えが見つかる」というチームワークの大切さも実感することができました。
今回の経験を通して、探究は教室での学習だけでなく、実際の生活の中でも深められることを子どもたちは学びました。身近な出来事に疑問を持ち、自分たちで考え、話し合い、行動につなげることこそが、探究する力を育てていきます。
この話し合いを受け、次回の水遊びからは、プールへ行く前にタオルと一緒に靴も外へ持ち出すことにしました。子どもたち自身の気付きや考えが、実際の安全対策につながったことは、とても価値のある学びとなりました。これからも、自分で考え、より安全でよりよい行動を選択できる力を育んでいきたいと思います。
Learning Through Real-Life Experiences: Earthquake Drill at the Pool
One of this week’s most meaningful learning experiences took place during our school pool water play.
While students were enjoying the water, the earthquake alarm suddenly sounded as part of our emergency drill. Immediately, students stopped playing, remained calm, and gathered safely in the designated corner of the pool while waiting for further instructions. Once the shaking had “stopped,” teachers guided students out of the pool safely before gathering together on the artificial turf beside the pool. Rather than simply practicing the procedure, students were encouraged to think deeply about why each safety step is important. Together, we discussed what could happen during a real earthquake. Students considered possibilities such as buildings or playground structures collapsing, pool water shaking and splashing, and why moving to a wide, open space like the parking lot would be the safest choice. One question quickly captured everyone’s attention:
“What should we do about our shoes if they are still inside the collapsed building?”
The discussion that followed beautifully demonstrated students’ growing Thinking Skills and student agency. They explored different possibilities, evaluated each other’s ideas, and worked together to solve the problem. One student suggested asking firefighters to come with a hammer tool to break through obstacles when the building collapse to retrieve the shoes. Another proposed wrapping towels around their feet for protection. Finally, one student suggested bringing their shoes outside with them before pool time so they would already be available if an emergency occurred. The class thoughtfully considered the different ideas and agreed that bringing their shoes outside with their towels was the safest and most practical solution. It was wonderful to see students taking ownership of their learning and recognizing that everyone can contribute valuable ideas when solving real-life problems together. This experience reminded us that inquiry does not only happen during lessons, it also happens when students reflect on authentic situations, ask meaningful questions, and work collaboratively to make informed decisions. From our next water play session onward, students will bring their shoes outside together with their towels before entering the pool area. This small but important change demonstrates how their thinking and inquiry have led to a practical action that helps keep everyone safe and prepared in the event of a real emergency.
公園でのびのび遊びました
今週は朝から雨が降っていたため、予定していた水遊びは残念ながら実施できませんでしたが、午後には曇り空となり、みんなで公園へ出かけることができました。
遊び始める前には、Milky Wayクラスのリーダーが前に立ち、公園で安全に楽しく過ごすためのお約束を自信を持ってみんなに伝えてくれました。クラスの仲間を思いやりながら責任を持って行動する姿から、リーダーシップの成長を感じることができました。
自由遊びでは、子どもたちの主体性が光る素敵な場面が見られました。遊具で遊ぶ子どもたちがいる一方で、数名の子どもたちが自分たちから「かけっこの練習をしよう！」と始めました。その姿を見たお友達も次々と加わり、気が付くとみんなで励まし合いながら楽しそうに練習する姿が広がっていました。
「がんばれ！」「もう少し！」と自然に声を掛け合う子どもたちの姿からは、お互いを応援する気持ちや、仲間の頑張りを認め合う温かい関わりが感じられました。また、自分で遊びを選び、自分たちで活動を広げていく様子から、主体的に行動する力も育まれていることが伝わってきました。
このような実際の遊びの中で、子どもたちは友達と協力する力やコミュニケーション能力をさらに伸ばし、仲間とのつながりを深めながら、楽しんで学びを広げています。
Play at the Park
Although we were unable to enjoy our scheduled water play because of the morning rain, we were fortunate that the weather became cloudy in the afternoon, allowing us to walk to the park instead. Before play began, our Milky Way class leader confidently reminded everyone of the playground agreements, demonstrating responsibility and leadership by helping our class stay safe while having fun. During free play, an interesting moment of student agency emerged. While some students explored the playground equipment, a few decided to practice for an upcoming race. Their enthusiasm quickly inspired others to join in, and soon classmates were encouraging and cheering one another as they practiced together. It was wonderful to see students making their own choices, supporting their peers, and recognizing that everyone’s encouragement can help others grow in confidence. Through these authentic interactions, students continued to develop collaboration, communication, and a sense of community while learning through play.
ぶどう園での袋がけ体験 〜自然の中で広がる学び〜
先週、Milky Wayクラスではぶどう園を訪れ、貴重な体験をすることができました。
子どもたちは、一房ずつ大切に育てられているシャインマスカットに、自分で飾り付けをした袋を丁寧にかけました。袋には自分の名前やぶどうの絵が描かれており、自分だけのぶどうができることをとても嬉しそうにしていました。ぶどう園に自分の作品が並んでいる様子を見て、ぶどうへの愛着もさらに深まったようです。
9月には再びぶどう園を訪れ、育ったシャインマスカットを収穫する予定です。子どもたちは、「どれくらい大きくなっているかな？」と今から収穫の日を心待ちにしています。
また、ぶどう園では自然の中ならではの素敵な発見もたくさんありました。子どもたちはカエルを見つけると、「先生、見て！」「こっちにもいるよ！」と目を輝かせながら友達や先生に知らせてくれました。
カエルを観察する際には、「順番に見ようね」と声を掛け合ったり、生き物を優しく扱ったり、「一緒に見よう！」と友達を誘ったりする姿が見られ、思いやりのある関わりが自然に生まれていました。友達と発見する喜びを分かち合いながら、自然への興味や命を大切にする気持ちも育まれています。
このような自然体験は、子どもたちの好奇心を育てるだけでなく、友達との関わりを深め、自然の豊かさや生命の大切さを感じる貴重な学びの機会となりました。
Vineyard Visit: Learning Through Nature
Last week, our Milky Way class had a wonderful visit to the vineyard! Students carefully protected their own Shine Muscat grapes by placing specially decorated paper bags over each bunch. Seeing their names and grape drawings hanging in the vineyard made the experience even more meaningful and helped students feel connected to the grapes they are caring for. We are excited to return to the vineyard in September to harvest the grapes and see how much they have grown. The vineyard also became a place for joyful exploration. Students excitedly discovered frogs and eagerly shared their findings with teachers and classmates. They demonstrated wonderful Social Skills by taking turns observing the frogs, respecting living things, inviting friends to join in the discovery, and celebrating each other’s excitement. Moments like these help children build positive relationships while developing curiosity and appreciation for the natural world.
きゅうりを収穫しました！
約8週間、大切に育ててきたきゅうりが大きく成長し、園の菜園で2本の立派なきゅうりを収穫することができました。
収穫したきゅうりは、キッチンスタッフが子どもたち全員で味わえるように食べやすい大きさに切ってくださり、マヨネーズまたはお味噌をつけていただきました。
「おいしい！」「シャキシャキしてる！」「自分たちで育てたきゅうりだね！」と嬉しそうに味わう子どもたちの笑顔がとても印象的でした。
苗を植えるところから始まり、水やりや毎日の観察を続けながら大切に育ててきたことで、子どもたちは植物を育てる責任や、根気よく世話を続けることの大切さを学びました。そして、自分たちの努力が実を結び、収穫して味わう喜びを実際に体験することができました。
自分たちで育てた新鮮な野菜を「いただきます」の気持ちを持って味わう姿からは、食べ物への感謝や自然の恵みを大切にする心も育まれていることを感じました。

Harvesting Our Cucumbers
After eight weeks of caring for our cucumber plants, we were excited to harvest two large cucumbers from our school garden. The kitchen staff kindly helped us slice them into enough pieces so that everyone could enjoy a taste, choosing either mayonnaise or miso as a dipping sauce. This special experience allowed students to see the results of their patience, care, and responsibility throughout the growing process. It was heartwarming to see students appreciating the fresh vegetables that they had helped nurture from seed to table.
