こんにちは！Milky Wayクラスから、今週の学びの様子をお届けします！

今週も、ワクワクする活動が盛りだくさんの一週間でした！リレーチームがどのように協力するのかを学んだり、宇宙の惑星を作ったり、スプラッシュペインティングを楽しんだり、スポーツフェスティバルに向けて準備をしたりしました。また、避難訓練を通して地震の際に安全を守る方法を確認したり、新しいフォニックスの音について学んだりと、子どもたちは考え、コミュニケーションを取り、創造し、協力しながら、充実した毎日を過ごしました。

それでは、Milky Wayクラスの素敵な一週間の学びを振り返ってみましょう！

今週はまず、リレーの動画を見ながら、リレーがどのように行われるのかを学びました。動画を見た後は、「チームが成功するためには何が大切だろう？」というテーマで、クラスのみんなで話し合いました。

子どもたちは、チームの中での役割や責任、そして共通の目標に向かって取り組む際のコミュニケーションの大切さについて、自分たちの考えを共有しました。

その後、私たちは3つ目の探究の流れ、「共通の目標を達成するためには、さまざまな方法がある」についての探究を始めました。

この考えをもとに、子どもたちはそれぞれのリレーチームごとに集まり、スポーツフェスティバルで行うリレーにおける共通の目標について話し合いました。

もちろん、3つのチームには共通したワクワクする目標があります！

「できるだけ速く走ること、リング（バトン）を丁寧に次のお友だちへ渡すこと、そしてみんなで協力してリレーを成功させること！」

その後、子どもたちは、チームの共通の目標を達成するために、自分にはどのようなことができるのかについてワークシートに取り組みました。

「自分の行動が、チーム全体の成功にどのようにつながるのだろう？」と考えることで、一人ひとりのチームメンバーが大切な役割を担っていることを学びました。

また、目標を達成するためには、一人だけが頑張るのではなく、お互いに協力し、責任を分かち合うことが大切であるということについても理解を深めることができました。

チームワークをクリエイティブに学ぼう！

チームワークについての学びは、楽しい共同制作にもつながりました！

今回は、子どもたちがペアになって協力し、宇宙にある8つの惑星をクレヨンで描きました。それぞれの惑星を丁寧に描いた後には、惑星の名前も書きました。

これはアート活動ではありますが、私たちはこの活動を、Unit of Inquiryで学んでいるチームワークとも意識的につなげています。

お友だちと一緒に作品を作る中で、子どもたちは、

「惑星はどのくらいの大きさにしよう？」
「何色を使ったらいいかな？」

といったことを考えながら、Thinking Skills（思考スキル）を活用しました。

自分たちで選択をし、絵を描くための計画を立て、そして自分たちの作品が最終的に大きな共同作品の一部になることを意識しながら活動しました。

また、パートナーとアイデアを共有したり、異なる意見に耳を傾けたり、優しく相手を尊重する言葉を使ったりすることで、Communication Skills（コミュニケーションスキル）も伸ばしています。

さらに、子どもたちはOpen-minded（心を開く人）としての姿も見せてくれました。

自分とは異なるパートナーのアイデアに耳を傾け、「こんな描き方もあるね」「この色もいいね」と、さまざまな方法や考え方を受け入れながら活動しました。

「自分とは違うアイデアを持っているお友だちもいる」ということ、そしてさまざまな考えや視点を受け入れることで、より良いチームワークにつながるということを、今回の活動を通して学ぶことができました。

What an exciting and action-packed week we had! From discovering how relay teams work together to creating space planets, enjoying our splash painting, preparing for our Sports Festival, practising how to stay safe during an earthquake drill, and exploring new phonics sounds. Our young learners were busy thinking, communicating, creating, and collaborating. Let’s take a look at our wonderful week of learning!

This week, we began by watching a relay video and exploring how a relay is done. After watching, we came together for a class discussion about what makes a team successful. Students shared their ideas about roles and responsibilities within a team, as well as the importance of communication when working toward a common goal. We then moved into our third Line of Inquiry: “There are different ways to achieve common goals.”

With this in mind, students sat together with their relay teams and discussed their common goal for the upcoming relay. Of course, all three teams shared the same exciting goal: to run as fast as they can, pass the ring carefully, and work together to win the relay! Students then completed a worksheet about the different ways they could help their team achieve its common goal. They thought about how their own actions can contribute to the success of the whole team. This helped them understand that every team member has an important role to play and that achieving a goal is not only about individual performance but also about cooperation and shared responsibility.

Our teamwork learning continued in a creative way as students made a collaborative space craft! Working in pairs, students drew the eight planets using crayons and carefully wrote the name of each planet underneath. Although this was an art activity, we intentionally connected it to our Unit of Inquiry on teamwork. As they worked together, students practiced their Thinking Skills by considering questions such as, “How big should our planet be?” and “What color should we use?” They made choices, planned their drawings, and thought about how their work would become part of a larger collaborative creation. Students also strengthened their Communication Skills by sharing ideas with their partners, listening to different opinions, and using kind and respectful words. Our young learners also demonstrated Open-mindedness by being willing to listen to their partner’s ideas and consider different ways of drawing and coloring the planets. They learned that their partner may have a different idea from their own, and that being open to different perspectives can help them work together successfully.

スポーツフェスティバルに向けて、子どもたちのワクワクした気持ちがますます高まっています！来月の本番に向けて、Milky Wayクラスでは、準備体操のダンス、プログラムアナウンスメント、選手宣誓、競技、リレー、そしてクラス全体で行う演技など、さまざまなプログラムの練習に取り組んでいます。

特に楽しみにしているのは、プログラムの中で、一人ひとりの子どもたちがアナウンサーを担当する機会があることです！

これは、子どもたちにとって、自信をつけたり、コミュニケーションスキルを伸ばしたり、そして自分の役割に責任を持って取り組んだりするための素晴らしい機会になると考えています。

The excitement is building as we prepare for our Sports Festival next month! The Milky Way Class has been busy practicing many important parts of the event, including our exercise dance, announcements, Players’ Oath, races, relay, and class group performance. We are especially excited that every student will have an opportunity to be an announcer during the program. This is a wonderful chance for our young learners to develop confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility.

今週は、教室もカラフルになりました！

子どもたちは、自分で選んださまざまな色の絵の具を使って、スポーツフェスティバルで着るオリジナルTシャツ作りに挑戦しました。絵の具をスプラッシュしながら、一人ひとりが自分らしいデザインを作り上げました。

それぞれのTシャツには、子どもたちの創造性や個性がたっぷりと表れており、どれも本当に素敵な仕上がりになりました！

スポーツフェスティバル当日、子どもたちが自分たちで作ったカラフルなTシャツを着て、一生懸命頑張る姿を見るのが今からとても楽しみです！

Our classroom also became a little more colorful this week! Students created their own unique Sports Festival T-shirts by splashing them with multiple colors of paint that they chose themselves. Each shirt became a reflection of the students’ creativity and individuality, and the results were absolutely amazing!

スポーツフェスティバルに向けた準備をさらに盛り上げるため、子どもたちは展示用のロケット制作にも取り組みました！

先生の説明をよく聞きながら、一つひとつの工程を確認し、順番に制作を進めていきました。

今回の活動では、「分からないときには、助けを求めること」も大切な学びの一つでした。

子どもたちには、「分からなかったら、まず聞いてみよう！」と伝えました。

分からないまま自分で想像して進めたり、迷いながら作業を続けたりするのではなく、一度立ち止まり、先生に質問をし、説明をしっかり聞いてから、再び自分で活動を進めることを練習しました。

このような経験を通して、子どもたちは少しずつ、自分で考えて行動する力、責任感、そして自信を持って学ぶ姿勢を育んでいます。

To add even more excitement to our Sports Festival preparations, students also created rocket crafts for our display. They listened carefully to the teacher’s instructions and worked step by step to complete their creations. An important part of our learning was knowing when to ask for help. Students were reminded, “If you are unsure, ask first!” Rather than guessing or continuing when they were uncertain, they practiced stopping, asking the teacher, listening to the guidance, and then continuing their work. This encouraged them to become more independent, responsible, and confident learners.

今週は、事前予告なしの地震避難訓練を行いました。

訓練が行われたのは午後2時30分。子どもたちが自由遊びの時間を楽しんでいるときでした。粘土遊びやお絵描きなど、それぞれが自分の興味に合わせて好きな活動をしていました。

すると突然、地震警報の音が鳴り響きました。

子どもたちはすぐに聞き慣れた音だと気づき、「自分の身を守る時間だ」と理解して行動しました。先生からの追加の指示を待つことなく、すぐに遊びを止め、素早く机の下へ避難することができました。

これまでの学びや繰り返し行ってきた訓練が、子どもたちの落ち着いた行動につながっていることを実感でき、とても心強く感じました。

その後、「揺れがおさまりました」というアナウンスを聞くと、子どもたちは素早く机の下から出て、防災頭巾をかぶり、避難の準備をしました。そして、決められた避難手順に従って、指定された駐車場まで移動しました。

教室に戻った後、一人の子どもが、

「今の、訓練だったの？」

と質問しました。そして続けて、

「本当に地震が起きたと思った！」

と話してくれました。

この言葉からも、子どもたちが今回の訓練を真剣に受け止めていたことが伝わってきました。同時に、なぜ日頃から繰り返し避難訓練を行うことが大切なのかを改めて感じる機会にもなりました。

子どもたちは、地震警報の音や、その際に取るべき行動を日頃から学び、練習しています。そのため、今回突然警報が鳴った際にも、すぐに自分の身を守る行動を取ることができました。

子どもたちの素早い対応から、地震が起きた際には一瞬一瞬が大切であり、落ち着いて安全な行動を取り、決められた避難方法に従うことが、自分や周りの人の安全につながるということを少しずつ理解している様子が見られました。

振り返りの時間

一日の終わりのサークルタイムでは、今回の避難訓練についてみんなで振り返る時間を持ちました。

子どもたちは、避難するときに大切な「お・は・し・も」の約束を守ることができたと共有してくれました。

これまで学んできた安全に関する約束を覚えており、実際の訓練の中でそれを行動に移すことができたことは、とても素晴らしいことでした。

一方で、振り返りを通して、「次回はもっと良くできること」も見つかりました。

例えば、避難する際に靴をきちんと履かずに出ようとしてしまったことや、避難の途中で虫を見つけて注意がそちらに向いてしまったこと、また、もう少し急いで移動する必要がある場面もありました。

私たちは、これらを単に「間違い」として終わらせるのではなく、なぜその行動が危険につながる可能性があるのか、次回はどのように行動すればよいのかについて、みんなで話し合いました。

この振り返りは、子どもたちにとっても、とても意味のある学びの機会となりました。

自分自身の行動を振り返り、その行動が自分だけでなく、周りの人の安全にもどのような影響を与えるのかを考え、「次はこうしたい！」と改善する方法についても意見を出してくれました。

今回の経験を通して子どもたちは、災害に備えるということは、ルールを覚えるだけではなく、緊急時に落ち着いて行動すること、安全に集中すること、そして一人ひとりが責任を持って行動することが大切であるということを学ぶことができました。

This week we had an earthquake drill without prior announcement. The drill took place at 2:30 p.m., while the students were enjoying their free time and choosing activities that interested them, such as playing with playdough or drawing.

When the earthquake alarm suddenly sounded, the students responded quickly. They immediately recognized the familiar sound and knew that it was time to protect themselves. Without waiting for further instructions, they stopped what they were doing and quickly moved under the tables. It was encouraging to see how their previous learning and practice helped them respond calmly and confidently to the alarm. When they heard the announcement that the shaking had stopped, the students quickly came out from under the tables, put on their emergency hats, and prepared to evacuate. They then followed the evacuation procedure and moved to the designated parking area. When we returned to the classroom, one student asked, “Was it only a drill?” She then added, “I thought that was real!” Her response showed just how seriously the students had taken the experience. It was also a wonderful reminder of why regular practice is so important. Because the students have become familiar with the sound of the earthquake alarm and the actions they need to take, they were able to respond almost automatically when they heard it. Their quick response demonstrated that they are beginning to understand that during an earthquake, every moment matters and staying calm and following safety procedures can help keep everyone safe.

During our closing circle, we took time to reflect on how the drill went. The students shared that they followed the O-HA-SHI-MO rules, which was wonderful to hear. It showed that they remembered the safety expectations and were able to apply their learning during the drill. At the same time, our reflection helped us notice some areas where we can improve. We talked about some actions that happened during the evacuation, such as not putting shoes on properly, becoming distracted after noticing a beetle instead of staying focused on safety, and walking without a sense of urgency. Rather than simply identifying these as mistakes, we discussed why these actions could be unsafe and what we could do differently next time. This reflection became a meaningful learning opportunity for everyone. The students were able to think about their own actions, consider how those actions can affect their safety and the safety of others, and suggest ways to improve. Through this experience, they learned that being prepared is not only about knowing the rules, it is also about staying focused, making safe choices, and taking responsibility during an emergency.

フォニックスとライティング

フォニックスでは、**「ui」と「ue」の母音チーム（vowel teams）**について学びました。まずフォニックスの動画を見ながら、それぞれの母音チームがどのような音を作るのかをよく聞きました。

また、これらの母音チームが単語の中のどこによく使われているかにも注目しました。

ui は、fruit, juice, suitのように、単語の真ん中に使われることが多いことを学びました。

一方、ue は、blue, glue, clueのように、単語の最後に使われることが多いことを学びました。

音について一緒に学んだ後は、ワークシートに取り組み、単語を読む練習をしました。子どもたちは、母音チームの音についての知識を活用しながら、初めて見る単語にも挑戦しました。

ライティングでは、**「oa」と「ow」**の母音チームを含む単語のスペリングに取り組みました。

先生が単語を読むのをよく聞き、どの文字を書く必要があるのかを、自分自身で考えながら書きました。

この活動を通して、子どもたちは「聞こえた音」と、これまで学んできた音やスペリングのパターンを結びつけています。また、リスニング力、音への意識、記憶力、スペリングスキルも育んでいます。

そして何よりも大切にしているのは、答えをただ写すのではなく、自分で考え、自分の知識を使って挑戦することです。

子どもたちが本を返却するとき、私たちはいつも、

「お家で読む練習をした？」と聞いています。すると、多くの場合、とても元気に、「YES!!」という返事が返ってきます！

そして、「誰と一緒に読んだの？」と聞くと、「マミー！」「ダディー！」という答えが返ってきて、私たちも思わず笑顔になります。

お忙しい中、お子さまと一緒に座って読書の時間を作り、子どもたちの読む声を聞いてくださったり、難しい単語が出てきたときに励ましてくださったり、少しずつできるようになったことを一緒に喜んでくださったり、本当にありがとうございます。

このような親子での小さな読書の時間の積み重ねが、子どもたちの本を読む楽しさや、学ぶことへの興味を長く育んでいくことにつながると考えています。

今シーズン最後の水遊び

今週は、今シーズン最後の水遊びも楽しみました！

今後は、セントラルプールでのスイミングの日を除き、プールバッグを持ってくる必要はありません。

子どもたちに「水遊びは今週で終わりです」と伝えると、少し残念そうにしている子どもたちもいました。夏の楽しい思い出が終わってしまうような、少し寂しくて複雑な気持ちだったのかもしれませんね！

しかし、その一方で楽しみなこともあります。これからは、また公園へ遊びに行くことができます！

水遊びは終わりますが、これからは季節の変化を感じながら、外でたくさん体を動かし、新しい遊びや発見を楽しんでいきたいと思います！

また、今月は同じ曲を引き続き歌っていく予定です。ご参考までに、歌のリストをこちらに添付しております。

In phonics, we explored the vowel teams ui and ue. Students watched a phonics video and listened carefully to the sounds these vowel teams can make.

We focused on noticing where the vowel teams commonly appear in words. Students learned that ui can appear in the middle of words, such as fruit, juice, and suit, while ue is often found at the end of words, such as blue, glue, and clue.

After exploring the sounds together, students completed a worksheet and practiced reading the words. They used their knowledge of the vowel team sounds to help them decode unfamiliar words.

For writing, we practiced spelling words containing the vowel teams oa and ow. Students listened carefully as the words were spoken and used their Thinking Skills to decide which letters they needed to write.

This activity encouraged students to connect what they hear with what they know about sounds and spelling patterns. It also strengthened their listening, phonemic awareness, memory, and spelling skills. Most importantly, students were encouraged to think independently rather than simply copying a word.

This week, students will once again bring home a new book to practice reading with their families.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our parents and families for supporting reading at home. Your encouragement makes such a meaningful difference in helping our young readers develop confidence and fluency.

Whenever students return their books, we ask them, “Did you practice reading at home?”

And we often hear a very enthusiastic, “YES!”

Then we ask, “Who did you read with?”

Their answers bring big smiles to our faces: “Mommy!” or “Daddy!”

Thank you, parents, for taking the time to sit with your children, listen to them read, encourage them when a word is tricky, and celebrate their progress. These small moments of reading together can help nurture a lifelong love of books and learning.

This week was also our last week of water play for the season. Students will no longer need to bring their pool bags, except when they have swimming at the Central Pool.

When we told the students that water play was coming to an end, some were feeling a little disappointed—which is perhaps the perfect word for that bittersweet feeling! However, there was also something exciting to look forward to: we will be going to the park again!

So while we may be saying goodbye to water play for now, new outdoor adventures are waiting for us!

We will continue singing the same set of songs throughout this month. The song list is attached here for your reference. We hope the children enjoy singing along at home, too!

来週も、探究、創造、体を動かす活動、そして音楽など、さまざまな学びを通して、楽しい一週間を過ごしていきたいと思います！

子どもたちは、日本語探究に取り組んだり、Unit of Inquiryの学びをさらに深めたり、スポーツフェスティバルに向けた準備を続けたり、ミュージックレッスンを楽しんだりする予定です。

来週も、子どもたちが探究し、コミュニケーションを取り、協力しながら成長する機会がたくさん待っています！

今週もMilky Wayクラスでは、探究、チームワーク、創造性、そしてスポーツフェスティバルに向けた準備など、たくさんの素晴らしい学びがありました！

Unit of Inquiryの探究を続ける中で、私たちは改めて、一人ひとりの声が大切であること、一人ひとりの貢献に価値があること、そして一人では達成することが難しい目標でも、みんなで協力することで達成できることを学んでいます。

皆さま、楽しい時間やご家族との時間を大切にしながら、心も体もゆっくりと休める素敵な週末をお過ごしください。

Next week, we are excited to continue our learning journey with a wonderful mix of inquiry, creativity, movement, and music. Students will explore Japanese Inquiry, deepen their understanding through our Unit of Inquiry lessons, continue preparing for the Sports Festival, and enjoy their Music Lesson.

There will certainly be more opportunities for our young learners to explore, communicate, collaborate, and grow!

What a wonderful week of inquiry, teamwork, creativity, and preparation it has been in the Milky Way Class!

As we continue our journey through our Unit of Inquiry, we are reminded that every voice matters, every contribution is valuable, and working together helps us reach goals that we may not be able to achieve alone.

We hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend filled with happy moments, family time, and plenty of opportunities to recharge.
