A Week of Discovery at EcoNecol – Milky Way-June 15th-19th

今週のミルキーウェイクラスも、楽しさと学び、そしてたくさんの発見にあふれた一週間となりました。体験的な活動や振り返りを通して、子どもたちにとって大切な学びの機会がたくさんありましたので、その一部をご紹介します。
週のはじめには、島内キャンパスのレインフォレストクラスと一緒に、エコネコルへ園外活動に出かけました。子どもたちはとても好奇心旺盛で、見学中もたくさんの質問をしていました。施設の方が、さまざまな資源がどのように回収され、分別され、リサイクルされていくのかを丁寧に説明してくださり、子どもたちは「リサイクルがどのように地球を守っているのか」を真剣に聞いて学んでいました。
施設内では、リサイクルのために圧縮された大きな紙のかたまりを実際に見たり触れたりすることができました。また、フォークリフトが地面に集められた紙の山を持ち上げ、コンベアに乗せて次の工程へ運ぶ様子を、目を輝かせながら見ていました。中でも特に印象に残ったのは、フォークリフトに座って運転している「ふり」を体験できたことです。子どもたちはとても嬉しそうでした。
その後、古いテレビや電化製品を分解しているエリアも見学しました。電子機器の中には大切な資源が含まれており、捨てるのではなく分別してリサイクルすることで、ゴミを減らし環境を守ることにつながるということを学びました。帰る前には、リサイクル資源を運ぶ車両の重さを量る大きな計量台にも乗り、資源がどれほど重くなるのかに驚いていました。また、レインフォレスト・クラスのお友だちと一緒に巨大な「もったいないボックス」の中に入る体験も楽しみ、その大きさに感動しながら、元気にジャンプして遊ぶ姿も見られました。
見学を通して、子どもたちは朝のサークルタイムで確認した安全のお約束をしっかり守り、落ち着いて行動することができました。また、「どうして？」「これは何？」と考えながら学ぼうとする姿が多く見られ、探究心あふれる様子がとても印象的でした。
園に戻ってからは、エコネコルで働く方々への感謝の気持ちを込めて、サンキューカードを作りました。「リサイクルについて教えてくれてありがとう」「地球を守ってくれてありがとう」など、心のこもったメッセージを書く姿から、今回の学びがしっかり心に残っていることが伝わってきました。
この園外活動を通して、子どもたちは好奇心をもって学ぶこと、相手への感謝や敬意を表すこと、そして地球を大切にする気持ちを育んでいます。とても充実した、学びの多い経験となりました。

Welcome to another week of fun, learning, and discovery in the Milky Way Class! This week was filled with exciting hands-on experiences, meaningful reflections, and wonderful opportunities. We are excited to share some of the highlights from our week with you!
To begin the week, the Milky Way Class joined the Rainforest Class from the Shimauchi Campus for an exciting field trip to EcoNecol. The students were full of curiosity and eagerly asked many questions throughout the visit. The workers kindly explained how different materials are collected, sorted, and recycled, and the children listened carefully as they learned how recycling helps care for our Earth. As we explored the facility, students had the opportunity to see and touch large bundles of compressed paper ready for recycling. They watched in amazement as a forklift skillfully moved piles of paper collected on the ground and placed them onto a conveyor system, where the paper was carried to the next stage of the recycling process. One of the highlights of the trip was getting the chance to sit on a forklift and pretend to drive it! We also visited an area where old televisions and other appliances were being carefully dismantled. Students learned that valuable materials inside electronic devices can be separated and recycled instead of being thrown away, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment. Before leaving, we explored the large weighing scale by stepping onto the platform used to measure vehicles carrying recyclable materials. Students were amazed at how heavy the materials could weigh! Students also had fun going inside the giant Mottainai Box together with the Rainforest students. The children were impressed by its enormous size and excitedly tried jumping inside the box. Throughout the trip, the students demonstrated the Learner Profile attribute of being Principled by remembering and following all the safety reminders discussed during our morning circle. They also showed that they are true Inquirers by asking thoughtful questions and seeking to learn more about how recycling works. Back in the classroom, we reflected on our visit by creating thank-you cards for the hardworking people at EcoNecol. Students expressed their appreciation with warm messages such as “Thank you for teaching us about recycling” and “Thank you for helping our Earth.” It was wonderful to see them recognize how the workers’ efforts help care for the environment and inspire us all to make responsible choices. We are so proud of the curiosity, respect, and care for the Earth that our students demonstrated throughout this meaningful learning experience!
公園まで歩いて行き、地震を想定した避難訓練を行いました。屋外で遊んでいる最中に実際の地震が起きた場合に、どのように身を守るかを学ぶこと、そしてISNスタッフ（保育者たち）も緊急時の対応を確認することを目的とした、大切で意味のある学習です。公園に到着後、先生から「遊んでいる途中で訓練を行うこと」「本番と同じ気持ちで取り組むこと」について説明がありました。
外遊びを楽しんでいる最中、先生が笛を吹き、地震発生の合図を出しました。子どもたちはすぐに遊びを止め、先生の指示に従って遊具や木から離れた安全な場所へ移動しました。安全な場所に集まった後は、「ダンゴムシのポーズ（Drop, Cover, Hold On）」を実践し、落ち着いて行動することができました。訓練中も最後まで静かに話を聞き、真剣に取り組む姿が見られました。
訓練後には、地震の際には建物や木の近くを避け、できるだけ開けた場所へ移動することの大切さについて、先生から改めて説明がありました。子どもたちはうなずきながら話を聞き、緊急時に自分の身を守る行動について理解を深めていました。
今回の訓練では、指示をよく聞き、責任ある行動をとる姿が多く見られました。また、地震時の安全な行動について学び、知識を身につけることもできました。落ち着いて真剣に参加する子どもたちの姿に、成長を感じる貴重な時間となりました。
We walked to the park for an important and meaningful learning experience—an emergency earthquake drill. Upon arriving at the park, the teachers explained that a drill would take place while the students were playing. The purpose of the drill was to help students learn how to stay safe if a real earthquake were to happen during outdoor play, while also giving teachers an opportunity to practice emergency procedures and ensure that everyone knows what to do in a real situation.
While enjoying their outdoor playtime, the teacher suddenly blew the emergency whistle to signal a simulated earthquake. The students responded quickly by stopping what they were doing and moving to the safe area indicated by the teacher, away from the play structures and trees. Once they reached the safe area, they practiced “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.” The students stayed calm and followed the instructions carefully throughout the drill.
After the drill, the teacher explained why it is important to move to an open space away from structures and trees during an earthquake. The students listened carefully and learned how to stay safe during an emergency.
The students demonstrated the Learner Profile attribute of being Principled by following instructions carefully and responding responsibly throughout the drill. They also showed they were Knowledgeable as they learned important safety procedures that can help protect themselves and others during an emergency. We are proud of how calmly and seriously the students participated in this valuable safety practice.
クラス写真の撮影を行いました。子どもたちはカメラマンのお話をよく聞き、集中して指示に従いながら、とても協力的に取り組むことができました。撮影後には、カメラマンから「とてもよく話を聞いてくれたので、撮影がスムーズに進みました。さすが年長さんですね！」と声をかけていただき、私たちもとても嬉しく感じました。
撮影中は、自分の行動を意識し、周りの人への配慮を忘れずに行動する姿が見られました。園を代表する一員として、責任ある態度で臨むことができたことを誇りに思います。ミルキーウェイクラスのみなさん、素晴らしかったです。
また、ISNのコミュニティーメンバーとして地球を守るためにできることについて、グループプレゼンテーションにも取り組みました。テーマは「教室をきれいに保つこと」「空気をきれいにすること」「リサイクル」「水を大切にすること」の4つです。
それぞれのグループで、先生から提示されたフレーズの中から誰がどの言葉を担当するかを相談しながら準備を進めました。話し合いの中で意見を出し合ったり、友だちを励ましたりする姿がとても印象的でした。クラスの前に立って発表することは勇気のいることですが、子どもたちは一生懸命、はっきりと自信をもって伝えようとしていました。挑戦する姿勢がたくさん見られ、私たちはとても誇らしく思いました。
発表後は、自分たちのプレゼンテーションの動画を見て、一人ひとり振り返りを行いました。できたことや、次に頑張りたいことを考えながら、振り返りシート（セルフアセスメント）に丁寧に記入する姿が見られました。楽しみながら学びつつ、伝える力、協力する力、そして自分を振り返る力を育てる、実りの多い学習となりました。
We had our class photo session! The students did a wonderful job listening carefully to the photographer’s instructions and following directions with great focus and cooperation. We were especially happy to hear the photographer comment that our students were the best because they listened so well and the photo session did not take long to complete.
The students showed excellent self-management and respect throughout the photo session, helping everything run smoothly. We are so proud of how responsibly they represented our class and school. Thank you for making us proud, Milky Way! Your positive attitude and excellent listening skills truly shined.
The students proudly took part in collaborative group presentations about how we can help care for the Earth as members of the ISN school community. Working together, the students prepared presentations on four important topics: keeping our classroom clean, keeping the air clean, recycling, and saving water.
Each group collaborated to decide which lines they would say from the phrases provided by the teacher. It was wonderful to see the students discussing, sharing ideas, and supporting one another as they prepared for their presentations. Standing in front of their classmates took courage, and the students tried their very best to speak clearly and confidently. We were so proud to see them step up, take risks, and share their learning with others. Way to go, risk-takers! We are proud of you!
After the presentations, the students watched videos of their own group presentations and reflected on their performance individually. They thoughtfully completed their assessment sheets, identifying what they did well and what they would like to improve next time. It was a meaningful learning experience that helped the students develop their communication, collaboration, and self-reflection skills while having fun learning how to care for our planet.
子どもたちは公園でお友だちと一緒に、のびのびと楽しい時間を過ごしました。走ったり、登ったり、すべり台で遊んだりしながら、遊具を思いきり楽しんでいました。外の新鮮な空気の中で、笑顔いっぱいに会話を交わしながら関わり合い、友だちとのつながりを深めている様子がとても微笑ましかったです。
Students had a wonderful time playing at the park with their friends. They enjoyed running, climbing, sliding, and exploring the playground together. It was lovely to see the students laughing, communicating, and building friendships while enjoying the fresh air and outdoor play.
６月生まれのお友だちのお誕生日を、ISN全クラスでお祝いしました。ミルキーウェイクラスからも2人のお友だちが誕生日を迎え、みんなで一緒にお祝いできたことをとても嬉しく思います。
お誕生日の子どもたちは、先生から特別なお誕生日カードを受け取り、お友だちに囲まれながら温かくお祝いしてもらいました。パーティーの中でも特に盛り上がったのは、「ロバのしっぽをつけよう」というゲームです。目隠しをした子どもたちが順番に挑戦し、周りのお友だちは「ひだり！」「みぎ！」「うえ！」「した！」と元気に声をかけながら応援しました。
教室中が笑顔と笑い声、そしてワクワクした雰囲気に包まれ、みんなで楽しい時間を共有することができました。素敵な思い出に残るお誕生日会となりました。
We joined the whole school in celebrating the birthdays of students born this month. We were especially excited because two of the birthday celebrants were from our Milky Way class!
The birthday children happily received their special birthday cards from the teachers and enjoyed being celebrated by their friends. One of the highlights of the party was a fun game of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.” The students took turns being blindfolded and tried their best to place the donkey’s tail in the correct spot while their friends excitedly called out directions such as “left,” “right,” “up,” and “down.” The room was filled with laughter, cheers, and excitement as everyone joined in the fun.
ミルキーウェイクラスに新しいお友だちを迎えることになりました。アメリカから来日し、夏休みの間、日本で過ごしながら、これから3週間一緒に学びます。新しいお友だちがミルキーウェイクラスでの時間を楽しみ、ISNファミリーの一員として安心して過ごせることを願っています。
来週も、スイミング、ジム、テニス、音楽など、楽しい学習活動が予定されています。また、レインボー、オーロラ、シューティングスター・クラスのお友だちに向けて、グループプレゼンテーションを行い、地球を大切にするために私たちにできることや、学校コミュニティの中で前向きな行動について伝える予定です。子どもたちも今からとても楽しみにしています。

We are excited to welcome a new student to the Milky Way class! Our new friend has come all the way from America to spend the summer vacation in Japan and will be learning with us for the next three weeks. We hope our new friend enjoys his time in the Milky Way class and feels right at home as part of our ISN family.
Next week, we are looking forward to more exciting learning experiences, including Swimming, Gym, Tennis, and Music lessons. The students are also excited to share their learning with the Rainbow, Aurora, and Shooting Star classes through their group presentations. They will teach other students about ways we can help care for the Earth and make a positive difference in our school community.
