To assess Shooting Star class’s knowledge and thinking skills about small creatures, the children had a fun time collaborating to choose a partner and work on a special project. Each group picked a small creature to learn about, such as spiders or frogs, and they all became curious little inquisitors. They spent time reading books and watching videos together to learn what they could about their creatures. This was not just about gathering facts; they were also practicing how to take agency and work as a team. They build motivation to speak up and discover new interests in a fun way. One goal was to think about how to care for and connect with living things through their homes and needs. The other goal was to build habitats for these creatures and practice sharing their work for their classmates and parents confidently. To all parents, thank you for attending the Open Day.
「シューティング・スター」クラスでは、小さな生き物に関する知識や思考力を深めるため、友達と協力して特別なプロジェクトに取り組みました。各グループがクモやカエルなどの生き物を選び、好奇心旺盛な探求者となって学びを深めました。本を読んだり動画を見たりして、選んだ生き物について熱心に調べました。単に事実を学ぶだけでなく、主体性を持ってチームで協力する方法も実践しました。楽しみながら自分の考えを伝えたり、新たな興味を見つけたりする意欲を育みました。目標の一つは、生き物の「住処」や「必要なもの」を知り、どのように世話をし、関わっていくかを考えることでした。もう一つの目標は、生き物のための住処を作り、その成果をクラスメートや保護者の前で自信を持って発表することでした。保護者の皆様、Open Dayのご参加ありがとうございました。
Going outside is an even more exciting and hands-on way to see what they learned about living things in a nearby park. At the park, they play and collected all sorts of natural treasures such as leaves, grass, and colorful flowers. They thought about the tricky shapes of different insects and how to build them with the materials and created tiny insects. These little insect creations will be laminated and worn as bracelets and reminders to enjoy nature.
近所の公園へ出かけることは、学んだ生き物について実際に確かめることができる、より刺激的で体験的な活動となりました。公園では、落ち葉や草、色とりどりの花など、自然の宝物をたくさん集めました。さまざまな昆虫の複雑な形を考え、集めた素材を使って小さな昆虫の模型を作りました。完成した昆虫の作品はラミネート加工され、ブレスレットとして身につけることで、自然を楽しむ気持ちを思い出せるようにしました。
The most magical part of the week came when the second caterpillar finally emerged from its chrysalis. The children watched one more beautiful butterfly unfold its wings and build the strength to flap its wings. This time students noticed that the wings looked wet and wrinkled. They thought about keeping the butterfly in the tank, but they talked about whether it could be a suitable habitat, and remembered that butterflies need space to fly and drink sweet sap from flowers!
今週の最も素晴らしい出来事は、2匹目のイモムシがついにサナギから出てきた瞬間でした。子供たちは、美しい蝶が羽を広げ、羽ばたくための力を蓄えていく様子をじっくりと観察しました。今回は、羽が濡れていてシワシワであることにも気づきました。蝶を飼育ケースに入れておくことも考えましたが、そこが適切な住処になるかどうかを話し合い、蝶には飛ぶための広い空間や、花の蜜を吸う場所が必要であることを思い出しました！
Finally, as the students have been observing their spider plants grow, some noticed that the roots were very long. In fact, it was time for the teams to plant them in the soil. Each group dug a small hole in the planters and buried the roots under the soil, then added water. Now, Shooting Star can continue to observe the plants grow in a more natural environment. They also had a special visit from a cricket and got the exciting chance to observe shed iguana skin up close!
最後に、育てていた「スパイダープラント」の観察を続けていたところ、根がとても長く伸びていることに気づいた子供たちがいました。実は、土に植え替える時期が来ていたのです。各グループがプランターに小さな穴を掘り、根を土に埋めて水をやりました。これで、シューティング・スターの子供たちは、より自然に近い環境で植物の成長を観察し続けることができます。さらに、コオロギが遊びに来たり、イグアナの脱皮した皮を間近で観察できたりするワクワクするような機会もありました！
