Our ISN Nakano Summer School 2026 was an unforgettable two weeks filled with laughter, creativity, teamwork, and exciting new experiences. Students enjoyed a variety of hands-on activities that encouraged them to learn through exploration while making wonderful memories with friends and teachers.
ISN中野サマースクール2026は、笑顔や創造性、チームワーク、そして新しい体験にあふれた、忘れられない2週間となりました。子どもたちは、さまざまな体験型アクティビティを楽しみながら、探究を通して学ぶことの楽しさを体験し、友だちや先生たちと素敵な思い出をたくさん作りました。
One of the highlights of our summer program was exploring Japanese culture through authentic local experiences. Students had the opportunity to make oyaki, one of Nagano’s most beloved traditional foods. They measured ingredients, kneaded dough, wrapped delicious fillings, and proudly tasted the oyaki they had made themselves. The activity not only introduced them to local cuisine but also helped them develop patience, teamwork, and confidence in the kitchen.
サマープログラムの中でも特に印象に残った活動の一つは、地域ならではの本物の体験を通して、日本文化に触れたことです。子どもたちは、長野を代表する伝統的な郷土料理の一つであるおやき作りに挑戦しました。材料を計量し、生地をこね、おいしい具材を包み、自分たちで作ったおやきを嬉しそうに味わいました。
この活動を通して、子どもたちは長野の郷土料理について学んだだけでなく、料理をする中で、忍耐力やチームワーク、そして自分で作り上げることへの自信も身につけることができました。
Another memorable excursion took us to Iiyama Tesuki Washi Taiken Koubou, where students discovered the fascinating process of making traditional Japanese washi paper from the fibers of the kōzo (paper mulberry) tree. Guided by skilled artisans, they carefully formed sheets of paper using traditional techniques and created their own handmade postcards to bring home. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with Japan’s rich cultural heritage while exploring the creativity and craftsmanship behind this centuries-old art.
もう一つの思い出深い校外学習では、飯山手すき和紙体験工房を訪れました。子どもたちは、楮（こうぞ）の木の繊維から伝統的な和紙を作る、興味深い工程について学びました。熟練した職人の方々に教えていただきながら、昔ながらの技法を使って一枚一枚丁寧に紙をすき、自分たちで手作りしたポストカードを作って持ち帰りました。
この体験は、日本の豊かな文化遺産に触れながら、何世紀にもわたって受け継がれてきた和紙づくりの技術や、そこに込められた創造性、職人の技を知る素晴らしい機会となりました。
Another unforgettable cultural experience was our visit to Magatama Hall in Iiyama. They discovered how magatama were used as jewelry, ceremonial objects, and symbols of good fortune throughout Japanese history. Students were excited to create their very own magatama necklaces! Starting with a rough piece of stone, they carefully cut, filed, and shaped it into the iconic comma-shaped design. After adding a string, each student proudly wore their handmade necklace. Although their magatama were already taking shape, the journey isn’t over yet! Their next mission is to continue filing and polishing them at home until they become smooth and glossy—a wonderful reminder that patience and dedication lead to beautiful results.
もう一つの忘れられない文化体験は、飯山市にある「まがたまホール」への訪問です。子どもたちは、日本の歴史の中で、勾玉が装飾品や儀式の道具、そして幸運の象徴として使われてきたことを学びました。
子どもたちは、自分だけの勾玉ネックレス作りにも挑戦し、とても楽しんでいました！最初は石の原石だったものを、丁寧に切り、やすりで削り、形を整えながら、特徴的な勾玉の形に仕上げていきました。ひもを通して完成すると、一人ひとりが自分で作ったネックレスを誇らしげに身につけました。
勾玉の形はできてきましたが、まだ完成ではありません！次のミッションは、家で引き続きやすりをかけて磨き、なめらかでツヤのある仕上がりにすることです。これは、忍耐と努力を続けることで、美しい結果につながるということを教えてくれる、素敵な学びの機会にもなりました。
After learning about their cultural importance, the students had the opportunity to create their own magatama. Using special stones, they carefully shaped, sanded, and polished them until they became smooth and shiny. The activity required patience, perseverance, and attention to detail, making it a rewarding hands-on experience. Each student proudly took home a unique handcrafted magatama as a special reminder of their journey into Japan’s rich history and traditions.
文化的な意味について学んだ後、子どもたちは自分だけの勾玉作りに挑戦しました。特別な石を使い、丁寧に形を整え、やすりをかけ、磨きながら、なめらかでツヤのある勾玉に仕上げていきました。この活動には、忍耐力や粘り強さ、そして細かな部分まで注意を払うことが求められ、やりがいのある体験となりました。
完成した一人ひとりの個性あふれる手作りの勾玉は、子どもたちが日本の豊かな歴史や伝統に触れた旅の大切な思い出として、誇らしげに持ち帰りました。
Back at school, our young scientists also enjoyed an exciting Science Time activity. They roasted marshmallows using a rocket stove, an environmentally friendly invention that produces less smoke than traditional stoves. This hands-on experiment sparked discussions about sustainability and how innovative designs can help reduce air pollution while making science fun and engaging.
学校に戻ってからは、子どもたちは「サイエンスタイム」で、わくわくする科学の活動にも取り組みました。ロケットストーブを使ってマシュマロを焼きました。ロケットストーブは、従来のストーブよりも煙が少ない、環境にやさしい発明です。
この体験を通して、子どもたちは持続可能性について考え、革新的なデザインがどのように大気汚染の削減につながるのかについて話し合いました。楽しみながら実際に体験することで、科学への興味や理解を深めることができました。
Creativity continued throughout the program as students made colorful kites, designed their own uchiwa (Japanese fans), participated in games, music, crafts, and many collaborative activities that encouraged communication, problem-solving, and friendship.
プログラムを通して、子どもたちの創造力も存分に発揮されました。色とりどりの凧を作ったり、自分だけの**うちわ（日本の伝統的な扇）**をデザインしたり、ゲームや音楽、工作、そしてさまざまな協働活動に参加したりしました。こうした活動を通して、コミュニケーション力や問題解決力を育みながら、友だちとの絆を深めることができました。
We wrapped up our Summer School with a lively Summer Festival, where families joined us to celebrate everything the students had accomplished. Parents, community members, the Mayor of Nakano City, and even Roze, Nakano City’s superhero, came to enjoy the festivities. Students visited exciting booths featuring shaved ice, baby castella, games, music, and many other fun activities, making it a joyful celebration of learning and community.
サマースクールの締めくくりには、にぎやかなサマーフェスティバルを開催し、子どもたちがこれまでに取り組んできたことや成長を、ご家族と一緒にお祝いしました。保護者の皆さまや地域の方々、中野市長、そして中野市のヒーローであるロゼもお祭りに参加し、楽しい時間を一緒に過ごしました。
子どもたちは、かき氷やベビーカステラ、ゲーム、音楽など、さまざまな楽しいブースを巡り、たくさんの活動を楽しみました。学びと地域とのつながりをみんなで喜ぶ、笑顔いっぱいの素敵な締めくくりとなりました。
Summer School 2026 truly showcased what learning can be when curiosity, creativity, and collaboration come together. We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing every opportunity with enthusiasm and courage, and we are grateful to our dedicated teachers, staff, families, and community partners who made these two weeks such a memorable success.
サマースクール2026は、好奇心や創造性、そして協働することの大切さを存分に感じられる、素晴らしい学びの場となりました。子どもたちが一つひとつの機会に意欲と勇気を持って挑戦したことを、私たちは心から誇りに思います。
