This week was another busy yet exciting week for the Rainforest Class. From the classroom to the park and out into nature, the inquirers were engaged in meaningful learning experiences filled with fun, exploration, and discovery.
今週も、忙しくも楽しい一週間となりました。クラス内での活動から公園遊び、自然の中での体験まで、子どもたちは楽しみながら、探究や発見にあふれた意義のある学びに取り組んでいました。
One of the highlights of the week was the Rainforest Bus Trip. It was a wonderful treat for everyone as the inquirers had the opportunity to walk around and closely observe nature, including different plants, flowers, rivers, and mountains. The children also enjoyed moving their bodies as they challenged themselves to complete the different obstacles in the park and jump on the marshmallow dome.
今週のハイライトの一つは、バストリップでした。子どもたちは、さまざまな植物や花、川、山などの自然を歩きながら間近で観察する機会をもち、とても楽しい時間を過ごしました。
また、公園ではさまざまなアスレチックに挑戦したり、マシュマロドームで跳ねたりしながら、思いきり体を動かして楽しんでいました。
Of course, one of the most exciting moments of the trip was lunchtime. Everyone proudly shared the lunches prepared by their families, making it a warm and joyful experience for the class.
To end the trip, the inquirers created their own coasters and proudly showcased their artistic side. What stood out most was how some children naturally connected their artwork to our Unit of Inquiry by including the 3Rs, animals, trees, and nature in their designs. This was a clear reflection of their growing conceptual understanding and ability to connect learning to different experiences.
In addition, the Rainforest Class officially started their second Unit of Inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme Sharing the Planet. The central idea of the unit is: Plants grow and change to support life on Earth.
もちろん、遠足の中でも特に楽しみにしていたのはお弁当の時間でした。お家の方が作ってくれたお弁当を嬉しそうに見せ合い、クラスみんなで温かく楽しい時間を過ごしました。
遠足の最後には、子どもたちはオリジナルのコースターを作り、それぞれの創造力を発揮していました。特に印象的だったのは、何人かの子どもたちが作品の中に3R（リデュース・リユース・リサイクル）や動物、木、自然などを取り入れ、現在のU.O.I（ユニット・オブ・インクワイアリー）と自然に結び付けて表現していたことです。これは、子どもたちの概念的理解が深まり、学びをさまざまな経験と関連付けられるようになっていることを示していました。
また、レインフォレストクラスでは、「Sharing the Planet（この地球を共有するということ）」の探究のもと、2つ目のU.O.Iも並行してスタートしました。
このユニットのセントラルアイデアは、
「植物は成長し変化しながら、地球上の生命を支えている」です。
The Lines of Inquiry are:
- The needs of plants to grow
- The functions of the different parts of plants
- The relationship between plants and people
- 探究の流れは以下の通りです。
- 1.植物が育つために必要なもの
- 2.植物の各部分の働き
- 3.植物と人とのつながり
As a provocation, the inquirers went outside to closely observe plants in their natural environment. They explored different colors, sizes, textures, and shapes before returning to the classroom to discuss and share their discoveries.
We were also very fortunate to have a special guest speaker, Mr. Jimmy from the Canyon Class, who shared his experiences and knowledge about raising plants. The inquirers listened with great interest and curiosity, making the experience both meaningful and authentic. Learning directly from an expert helped deepen their understanding and sparked even more excitement for the unit.
導入活動（Provocation）として、子どもたちは外へ出て、自然の中にある植物をじっくり観察しました。植物の色や大きさ、手触り、形などを探究し、その後お部屋に戻って気づいたことや発見したことをみんなで共有しました。
また、キャニオンクラスのMr. Jimmyを特別ゲストとしてお迎えし、植物の育て方についての経験や知識をお話ししていただきました。子どもたちは興味津々な様子で話を聞き、学びの多い貴重な時間となりました。実際に詳しい人から学ぶことで、理解がさらに深まり、ユニットへの興味や期待もより高まっていました。
For our previous Unit of Inquiry about the 3Rs, the inquirers continue to demonstrate strong understanding of the concepts. This week, the class participated in a “Pack Smart Challenge,” where they were given different materials and asked to pack only the items that could help reduce, reuse, and recycle. Their choices were thoughtful, and their discussions clearly reflected their growing knowledge and awareness of how their actions can help care for the Earth.
「3R（リデュース・リユース・リサイクル）」についても、子どもたちは引き続き概念をよく理解している姿を見せています。
今週は、「Pack Smart Challenge（パックスマートチャレンジ）」に取り組みました。子どもたちはさまざまな材料の中から、リデュース・リユース・リサイクルにつながるものを考えて選び、荷物に入れる活動を行いました。
子どもたちの選択にはしっかりとした考えが見られ、話し合いの中でも、自分たちの行動が地球を守ることにつながるという理解や意識が育っている様子が感じられました。
It was truly a busy week for the Rainforest Class, but most importantly, it was filled with meaningful learning, exploration, and joyful experiences together.
レインフォレストクラスにとって本当に忙しい一週間でしたが、何よりも、意味のある学びや探究、そしてみんなで楽しい経験をたくさん共有できた一週間となりました。
