Dear Milky Way Families,
What a joyful and exciting week we have had! Thank you for being part of another wonderful week of learning, laughter, and growing together. We truly appreciate your continued support and partnership. We hope you enjoy reading about our adventures!
🤸 Gym Open Day – A Special Time with Our Families
One of the biggest highlights of our week was our Gym Open Day! The students had been eagerly looking forward to this special day and could hardly contain their excitement as they talked about their parents coming to join them. On the bus ride to the gym, many happy voices filled the air as students excitedly pointed out, “That’s my mum!” or “I see my dad!” It was heartwarming to see their smiling faces as they spotted their families waiting for them. During the lesson, everyone had so much fun participating in the activities together. One favorite was the tunnel activity, where parents supported themselves with their hands and feet to make a “bridge” while students crawled underneath. Students also enjoyed the partner leg jump activity, where parents sat on the floor with their legs stretched out together while students jumped over their legs. Another fun challenge was the jump in, jump out activity, where parents opened their legs for students to jump in, then closed their legs for students to jump out. Everyone also enjoyed the rolling ball game, where parents and children sat facing each other with their feet touching and rolled a ball back and forth over their legs. It was wonderful to see students demonstrating the Principled Learner Profile throughout the gym lesson. Even though they were excited to have their parents with them, they continued to do the right thing by listening carefully to the gym teacher’s instructions and participating in each activity with their parents as directed. They also showed the Risk-Taker Learner Profile by confidently trying each activity with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

📚 Long Vowel “u” (Magic e)
This week, we explored the long vowel “u” using the Magic e rule. Students learned how the silent “e” changes the vowel sound and practiced reading words with confidence. They independently completed a cut-and-paste worksheet sorting short vowel and long vowel “u” words. After checking their work, we were delighted to see that the students had an excellent understanding of the concept. Students also read the Magic e words individually with their teacher. We are so proud of their growing confidence and reading skills. They demonstrated the Knowledgeable Learner Profile by applying their new understanding and the Risk-Taker Learner Profile by reading aloud with confidence.
🎋 Tanabata Wishes
With Tanabata just around the corner, our classroom was filled with excitement as students wrote down their dreams and wishes on colorful papers. They carefully decorated them before hanging them on our beautiful bamboo tree, which is now proudly displayed at the school entrance. This activity encouraged students to express themselves while showing the Communicator Learner Profile as they shared their hopes and dreams with others.

🌎 Inquiry Fair Preparation
We also began preparing for our Inquiry Fair on July 16th! Together, we discussed what an Inquiry Fair is, who will be coming to visit, and how we will share our learning. The class decided to present what they have learned about the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle through role-play. Students randomly drew their names to form three groups and took the lead in discussing, deciding on their roles, and planning their role-play together, with the teacher providing support only when needed. As a whole class, we worked collaboratively to create a large Earth prop for our performance. Throughout the preparation, students showed the Communicator Learner Profile by sharing their ideas, and the Caring Learner Profile by supporting one another. We are all looking forward to welcoming our families to watch our presentation!

🌳 Fun at the Park
We enjoyed another fun visit to the park! Before playing on the playground equipment, one of our students confidently explained the playground rules to the class, helping everyone stay safe while having fun. Students demonstrated the Principled Learner Profile by following the rules responsibly and the Caring Learner Profile by playing cooperatively and looking after one another.

🎁 Show and Tell
Our Show and Tell sessions continue to be a wonderful opportunity for students to build their confidence. Many children proudly shared their special items from home and explained why they were meaningful to them. It has been lovely to see more students becoming eager to stand in front of the class, while others are feeling encouraged to have a turn in the coming weeks. Students demonstrated the Communicator Learner Profile by trying to speak clearly and listening respectfully to their classmates.

📖 Reading Practice
This week, the class read the Magic e decodable book The Nice Mice. Students practiced reading the story independently, with a partner, and with the teacher. We were so proud of their growing confidence and fluency as they applied their knowledge of long vowel “i” (Magic e) words. The book will be sent home this week. Please take a few minutes to practice reading it together at home. Your encouragement and support make a big difference in building your child’s confidence as a reader!

Looking Ahead
Next week will be another exciting one! As the hot summer season begins, we are looking forward to opening our school pool for water play. We will also have our swimming lesson at the Central Pool. In addition, we will continue preparing and practicing for our Inquiry Fair and are excited to begin our new Unit of Inquiry (Unit 2) as we start another wonderful learning journey together.
As always, we encourage you to ask your child about their learning and invite them to sing our class song, “ROAR,“ at home. We hope you enjoy singing it together!
Thank you once again for your continued support and encouragement. We hope you all have a safe, relaxing, and wonderful weekend with your families!
