Building Skills, Building Confidence!🌟 SV 10/19-23

This week in Savanna Class, our learners enjoyed a variety of exciting experiences that encouraged them to express themselves, develop new skills, and learn together. From exploring Japanese traditions to creating Halloween crafts, practicing music, and enjoying our first walk to the park, the children demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and perseverance as they continued to grow as Inquirers, Thinkers, and Caring members of our class!

During our UOI learning, we explored Japanese traditions by creating samurai helmets out of newspaper in celebration of Children’s Day. Folding such a large piece of paper was a little challenging, but the children carefully followed the steps and worked hard to complete their creations. Each finished helmet was a wonderful accomplishment! Through this hands-on activity, they developed their fine motor skills, concentration, and ability to follow instructions while learning about Japanese culture.

For our Halloween craft activity, the children painted paper plates and threaded yarn through the holes to create spiderwebs. This required patience, concentration, and careful coordination, especially when pulling the yarn tightly. Although some parts were tricky, the children persevered and supported one another throughout the process. To complete their creations, they added eyes to cute spiders made from plastic string. Their finished Halloween crafts were adorable! This activity encouraged the children to develop their fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities while working through challenges together. They also demonstrated the Caring attribute by helping and supporting their friends. What a wonderful reminder that we can accomplish great things when we keep trying and help one another!

In our Music lesson, we continued developing our musical skills by practicing “The Swing” on the pianica. The first part went very well, while some children found the “Re–Mi–Re–Do” pattern in the second half a little challenging. With continued practice and encouragement, they can keep building their confidence and improving their pianica skills.

We also began discussing our upcoming Winter Show! The children shared their ideas about which story they would like to perform and which characters they hope to play. Everyone had several exciting role ideas, and they seemed eager to begin practicing. We can’t reveal the final roles just yet, so stay tuned to see who our little performers will become! ✨

One of this week’s special milestones was our very first walk to the park as Savanna students! After practicing our walking routines and noticing how much the children’s walking abilities had improved, we decided it was time to take the next step and enjoy a walk to the park together. And guess what? No one complained about feeling tired or hungry along the way! Everyone did a wonderful job walking together and enjoying the beautiful autumn weather. Once we arrived, the children happily played at the park and enjoyed the refreshing autumn breeze.

We were so proud to see how much they had grown in their stamina, independence, and ability to walk together as a group. By taking on this new experience, the children showed themselves to be Risk-takers, trying something new with growing confidence. Well done, Savanna learners! You showed us that with practice and determination, we can achieve things we once found challenging. What a lovely way to enjoy the autumn season! 🍁Thank you for reading our blog, and have a wonderful weekend! 💛
