Splashing into Learnin: Discovering Water animals- Aurora (July 21-24

Hello dear parents and friends,

The hot summer days continue, and our students have been enjoying cooling down in the school pool while making the most of our Sharing the Planet inquiry about Animals.

To combine learning with summer fun, we prepared an engaging water activity using small figurines of animals that live in or around the water. As the children splashed in the pool, the teacher called out the name of a water animal, and they eagerly searched for the matching figurine. Excited cheers filled the pool each time they made a discovery!

This playful activity encouraged the children to listen carefully, strengthen their observation skills, and recognize different animals and their habitats.

As part of our Sharing the Planet inquiry, we deepened our understanding by exploring the question, “What do animals need to live?”

Our students were wonderful Thinkers as they shared their ideas and actively participated in the discussion. They used their prior knowledge to think about the basic needs of animals and eagerly answered the teacher’s questions. Many children confidently shared that animals need air, food, water, and a home (shelter) to survive.

Through our discussion, the children discovered that, just like humans, all animals have basic needs that help them stay healthy and alive. They also learned that while different animals may live in different habitats and eat different kinds of food, they all depend on these essential needs to survive.

After our discussion, the children took part in a fun matching activity where they paired each animal with its home. They matched a beehive to a bee, a den to a lion, a barn to a pig, a nest to a bird, and many more.

By carefully observing the pictures and thinking about what they had learned, the children were able to identify each animal and its habitat. This hands-on activity helped deepen their understanding that every animal has a special place to live that provides shelter and keeps it safe.

As we continue our Sharing the Planet inquiry, we are excited to discover more about the amazing world of animals and the important role they play in our lives. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey. We hope you enjoy looking through this week’s classroom moments, and we wish you a wonderful weekend with your family!
