🕺 Dance Lesson
This week, we had our first dance lesson of the year! The dance instructor is the same as last year, but with new homeroom teachers, the students were very excited to show us the dances they already know. They confidently shared what they had learned before and were proud to perform. We also started learning a new dance, and the students absolutely loved it — especially the cool new moves!
今週は今年度最初のダンスレッスンがありました！ダンスの先生は昨年と同じですが、担任の先生が新しくなったことで、子どもたちはこれまでに学んだダンスを見せることをとても楽しみにしていました。自信を持って披露する姿がとても印象的でした。また、新しいダンスにも挑戦し、かっこいい動きをとても楽しんでいました！
🌍 Starting Our UOI: Caring for the Earth
This week, we began our new Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet. In this unit, students will explore how our everyday choices can help care for the Earth. We will focus on understanding the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), how waste affects the environment, and what actions we can take to make a positive difference.
Throughout the unit, students will investigate these ideas through hands-on activities, discussions, and real-life connections. They will begin to understand that even small actions—like cleaning up, saving resources, and reusing materials—can have an important impact on the world around them.
今週から「地球の共有（Sharing the Planet）」というテーマのもと、新しいUOI（探究の単元）がスタートしました。このユニットでは、日常の小さな選択がどのように地球を守ることにつながるのかを探究していきます。3R（リデュース・リユース・リサイクル）について学び、ごみが環境に与える影響や、自分たちにできる行動について考えていきます。
ユニットを通して、子どもたちは体験的な活動や話し合いを通じて理解を深めていきます。また、片付けや物を大切に使うことなど、身近な行動が環境に良い影響を与えることにも気づいていきます。
🎒 Mystery Bag Provocation
To begin the unit, we explored a “mystery bag” filled with different items. The students observed, discussed, and shared their ideas about the objects and what happens to them. This helped us start thinking about waste and the environment.
導入として「ミステリーバッグ」を使った活動を行いました。さまざまな物を観察しながら、「これは何？」「どうなるの？」と話し合い、ごみや環境について考え始めるきっかけになりました。
🤝 Teams & Essential Agreements
We also worked together to create our classroom community. Students discussed and decided on team names, and then used paint to make handprints to show their agreement with our essential agreements. It was a meaningful and fun way to build teamwork.
また、クラスのルール作りにも取り組みました。子どもたちは話し合いながらチーム名を決め、手形アートを使ってエッセンシャルアグリーメント（大切な約束）に同意しました。楽しく、そして協力する大切さを感じられる活動となりました。
♻️ Reuse and Caring for the Earth
Students explored how we can reuse materials instead of throwing them away. Using different recycled items, they created their own crafts and shared their ideas with each other. This helped them understand that many materials can be used again in creative ways, and that small choices can help reduce waste.
We also completed an activity where students looked at different actions and decided whether they were good or bad for the Earth. They sorted these actions and discussed their thinking, helping them begin to understand how our everyday choices can impact the environment.
子どもたちは、物を捨てるのではなく再利用する方法について考えました。さまざまな廃材を使って作品を作り、お互いのアイデアを共有しました。この活動を通して、多くの物が工夫次第で再び使えることや、小さな選択がごみを減らすことにつながることを学びました。
また、さまざまな行動が地球にとって良いか悪いかを考えるワークシートにも取り組みました。行動を分けながら理由を話し合い、日常の選択が環境にどのような影響を与えるのかを理解し始めました。
📖 The Messy Magpie
We read the story “The Messy Magpie” and discussed actions that are good or bad for the Earth. Students sorted different actions and began to understand how their choices can affect the environment.
絵本『The Messy Magpie』を読み、地球にとって良い行動と良くない行動について考えました。さまざまな行動を分ける活動を通して、自分たちの選択が環境にどのような影響を与えるのかを学びました。
💭 Wonder Wall & Thinking
We started our Wonder Wall, where students shared their questions about the Earth and recycling. We also introduced simple thinking steps to help students reflect on their learning.
子どもたちの「なぜ？」「どうして？」を大切にするために、ワンダーウォールを始めました。地球やリサイクルについての疑問を出し合い、学びを深めています。また、考える力を育てる活動にも取り組み始めました。
It has been a wonderful start to our unit, and we are excited to continue exploring how we can care for our Earth together! 🌱
