Halloween week is right around the corner, and the classroom has transformed into a vibrant hub of festive energy, creative arts, and collaborative planning. From personal craft projects to reflections on family traditions and initial rehearsals for upcoming performances, students have had an action-packed week of learning and celebration.

A Creepy Crafty Halloween
Building on last week’s fantastic effort where students designed intricate spiderweb backgrounds, this week was all about adding the primary inhabitants. Students handcrafted colorful spiders, creating a unique spider for each letter of their names. By combining their individual creations with the web backgrounds, the class successfully completed the official signage for the big day. They are all ready and excited for the spooky festivities.

Sharing and Celebrating Connections
The Halloween excitement served as a wonderful bridge into deeper personal reflections as students shared photos of themselves participating in various celebrations, ranging from family birthdays to cultural holidays. They talked openly about how they celebrate these special events, who they share those cherished moments with, and the unique outfits and delicious foods that make each occasion special. This sharing opportunity gave students a meaningful way to practice communication skills, and appreciate friends and family by celebrating each other’s unique celebrations.

A Festive Spin
Looking ahead to the next big celebration, the energy shifted toward preparing for the Christmas Show. To make selecting flags and roles fun and dynamic, the class played several lively rounds of Spooky Musical Chairs. Once roles were assigned, students jumped right into a read through the script together. After taking turns trying out all the lines they thoughtfully reflected on how many lines they would like to learn and perform. The enthusiasm is already running high, and a few ambitious students can already remember the story from memory!
As rehearsals go into full swing, it’s important to keep your reading skills sharp! Please take a moment to review and practice reading CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant combinations) containing the short vowels “a,” “e,” and “i” on the Starfall website: https://www.starfall.com/h/word-machines
