一つのチーム、それぞれの役割、一つの目標へ

こんにちは、Milky Wayクラスの保護者の皆さま。

今週も、子どもたちの学びを温かく支えてくださり、ありがとうございました。Milky Wayクラスでは、探究や発見、そしてチームワークにあふれた充実した一週間を過ごしました。

今週は、Gojo Elementary Schoolで行われたInquiry Fairを振り返ることからスタートしました。子どもたちは、「自分たちは目標を達成できたかな？」という問いについて考え、「たくさん練習したから！」「みんなで協力したから！」と、自信を持って目標を達成できたことを話してくれました。

その後、一人ひとりがInquiry Fairでチームがどのように協力し、共通の目標を達成したのかを振り返る個人リフレクションに取り組みました。また、KWLチャート（「知っていること・知りたいこと・学んだこと」）にも、新たな疑問やInquiry Fairを通して学んだことを書き加えました。

この振り返りの活動では、自分たちの学びをじっくり見つめ直すReflective（振り返りができる人）、自分の考えを自信を持って伝えるCommunicator（コミュニケーター）、そして友達のさまざまな意見に耳を傾けるOpen-minded（心を開く人）といったIBの学習者像を実践する姿が見られました。

さらに探究を深めるために、「Teamwork is Fun」という動画を視聴しました。動画では、「みんなで協力すると、一人ではできないことも達成できる」「良いチームワークには、相手の話をよく聞き、自分の役割を果たすことが大切」ということを学びました。そして、全員が協力することでチームは目標を達成し、みんなが達成感や喜びを感じられることも知りました。

動画を見た後の話し合いでは、「チームワークをすると誇らしい気持ちになれるよ。」「チームワークは目標を達成するのに役立つね。」「チームワークは、お友達に質問できるから楽しい！」など、子どもたちから素敵な意見がたくさん出ました。また、「どんなときにチームを助けられるの？」「どうしてチームを助けることが大切なの？」という新しい疑問も生まれ、それらをKWLチャートに加えながら、さらに探究を深めていきました。

その後は、チームの中にはそれぞれ異なる役割があることを学びました。Leader（リーダー）、Thinker（考える人）、Challenger（挑戦する人）、Doer（行動する人）、Supporter（支える人）という5つの役割について知り、「どの役割もチームの目標を達成するためには欠かせない大切な存在である」ということを学びました。

子どもたちは、自分にはどの役割が合っているかを考え、それぞれの役割バッジを嬉しそうに身に付けました。そして、「どうしてその役割を選んだのか」を発表し、自分がチームのためにどのように貢献できるかを考えながら、自分の役割やチームを助けている様子を絵や文章で表現しました。

一人ひとりが自分の役割を理解し、お互いの役割を認め合うことで、「みんなで力を合わせて一つの目標を目指すこと」の大切さを、さらに実感することができた一週間となりました。

One Team, Many Roles, One Goal-Milky Way-July 20th-24th

Dear Milky Way Families,

We hope you have had a wonderful week! Thank you for your continued support as we journey together through another exciting week of learning, discovery, and teamwork in the Milky Way class.

This week, we began by reflecting on our Inquiry Fair at the Gojo Elementary School. Together, we thought about what we had accomplished and asked ourselves whether we had achieved our goal. The students confidently shared that they had achieved their goal because they practiced a lot and worked together as a team. They then completed an individual reflection by thinking about how their team worked together during the Inquiry Fair to achieve their common goal. We also revisited our KWL Chart by adding new questions and new learning from our Inquiry Fair experience. Throughout this reflection, the students demonstrated the IB Learner Profile attributes of being Reflective as they thoughtfully evaluated their learning, Communicators as they confidently shared their ideas, and Open-minded as they listened respectfully to the different perspectives of their classmates. To continue exploring our Unit of Inquiry, we watched a video entitled Teamwork is Fun. The video taught us that teamwork is enjoyable because people can accomplish more when they work together. It also showed that successful teamwork requires listening carefully and doing our part. When everyone cooperates, the team reaches its goal, and everyone feels happy and successful. During our discussion, one student shared, “Teamwork can make people proud.” Another said, “Teamwork can help us achieve our goal,” while another added, “Teamwork is fun because team members can ask each other questions.” A few students also wondered, “When can I help the team?” and “Why do we need to help our team?” These thoughtful questions were added to our KWL Chart as we continued building our understanding of teamwork. We then learned about the different team roles—Leader, Thinker, Challenger, Doer, and Supporter—and discovered that every role is important for completing a task successfully. The students reflected on which role suited them best, proudly wore their role badges, explained their chosen roles, and completed an individual activity by identifying their team role, drawing themselves helping their team, and explaining how they contribute to achieving the team’s goal.

日本語探究 ～クラゲの水遊びおもちゃを作りました！～

日本語の探究活動では、子どもたちが小さな発明家になって、クラゲをモチーフにした水遊びおもちゃを作りました！

まず、半分に切ったペットボトルの切り口に、カラフルなテープを丁寧に貼り、安全に使えるよう工夫しました。その後、細長く切ったビニールをペットボトルの中に入れ、口の部分から垂らしてクラゲの触手を表現しました。最後にキャップをしっかり閉めて、世界に一つだけのクラゲのおもちゃが完成しました。

そして、お待ちかねの水遊び！完成したクラゲを水の中で動かすと、触手がゆらゆらと揺れたり、くるくる回ったりして、本物のクラゲのように泳ぐ姿に、子どもたちは大喜び！「見て見て！」「泳いでる！」と笑顔いっぱいで楽しんでいました。

暑い夏の日にぴったりの涼しい活動となっただけでなく、お友達と順番を譲り合ったり、一緒に遊び方を考えたりしながら遊ぶことで、協力することや思いやりの気持ちを育む良い機会にもなりました。楽しく遊びながら、社会性も育まれた素敵な時間となりました。

During our Japanese Inquiry time, the students became little inventors as they created a fun water-play toy shaped like a jellyfish! Using half of a PET bottle, they carefully covered the cut edge with colorful tape to make it safe and attractive. Next, they placed strips of plastic inside the bottle, letting them hang through the opening like wiggly jellyfish tentacles, before tightly screwing on the bottle cap to keep everything in place. The funniest part came when we took our creations outside for water play—the jellyfish danced, twirled, and splashed around in the water, making everyone laugh with delight! It was not only a refreshing way to cool down on a warm day but also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our social skills as the children enjoyed playing cooperatively with their friends.

Phonics ～「ea」と「ee」の学習に取り組みました！～

Phonicsの時間には、**母音チーム（Vowel Teams）「ea」と「ee」**について学びました。どちらも同じ長い「イー（/iː/）」の音になることを知り、楽しく学習を進めました。

まずは、これまでの学びを思い出す活動として、「ea」や「ee」が入っている単語を考えました。子どもたちは「sea」「tree」など、たくさんの単語を元気よく発表してくれました。

その後、「ea」と「ee」を使ったさまざまな単語をみんなで音読し、さらにインタラクティブな動画を見ながら、単語と絵を正しく結び付けるゲームにも挑戦しました。楽しみながら語彙を増やすとともに、文字と音を結び付けて読む力（デコーディングスキル）をさらに伸ばすことができました。

子どもたちは、つづりのパターンについて理解を深め、新しく学んだことを自信を持って活用する姿を見せてくれました。この活動では、IBの学習者像であるKnowledgeable（知識のある人）を発揮していました。

Reading Time ～「Kate and Jake」を読みました！～

Reading Timeでは、Magic eのデコーダブルブック『Kate and Jake』を読みました。

これまでPhonicsで学んできたルールを活かしながら、自信を持って文章を読む姿がたくさん見られ、子どもたちの成長を感じることができました。読むことにも少しずつ慣れ、以前よりもスムーズに楽しみながら読めるようになっています。

活動中には、あるお子が「読むのが大好き！100回読みたい！」と嬉しそうに話してくれました。こうした言葉からも、繰り返し練習することで自信が育ち、「もっと読みたい！」という意欲につながっていることが伝わってきます。

これからも、一人ひとりが読書を楽しみながら、自信を持って英語を読めるよう、楽しく学習を進めていきます。

In Phonics, the Milky Way class explored the vowel teams ea and ee, learning that both make the same long /e/ sound. To activate their prior knowledge, the students were asked to think of words with these vowel teams, and they quickly shared examples such as sea and tree. We then practiced reading many ea and ee words together before watching an interactive video that challenged our reading skills by matching words to the correct pictures. Along the way, we expanded our vocabulary while strengthening our decoding skills. The students demonstrated the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Knowledgeable as they built their understanding of spelling patterns and confidently applied their new learning.

During Reading Time, we enjoyed reading the Magic e decodable book, Kate and Jake. It was wonderful to see the students applying the phonics skills they have learned in class, making reading feel smoother and more enjoyable. One enthusiastic student even exclaimed, “I love reading! I want to read a hundred times!” Moments like these remind us that confidence grows with practice, and it is exciting to see our young readers becoming more independent and eager to read.

来週も楽しみな活動がたくさん予定されています！中央プールでのスイミングレッスンや、スポーツフェスティバルに向けた体育館での練習、音楽のレッスンを行います。また、探究ユニット「チームワーク」では、ゲームやさまざまなアクティビティを通して、協力する力やコミュニケーション力をさらに育んでいきます。
