Dear Parents and Friends,

We hope you had a wonderful week!

This week, we began our new Unit of Inquiry (LOI 3), “I Am Different from Others.” The students were excited to explore what makes each of us unique and special. Through class discussions, we talked about the many ways people can be different from one another. The children eagerly shared their ideas and observations about themselves and their friends.

We compared our body sizes and noticed that everyone is different. The students compared their heights with their classmates and even with their teachers! We also talked about our physical features, such as our hair, eyes, and other characteristics that make each person unique.

One of the highlights of the week was our body tracing activity. The students took turns lying down on large sheets of newspaper while their teacher carefully traced the outlines of their bodies. They were amazed to see how big their bodies looked on paper! Afterward, we discussed how much they have grown since they were babies and what helps them grow healthy and strong.

The children enthusiastically shared their thoughts about why they have grown so much. Some said, “I eat a lot!” while others shared, “I eat vegetables!” and “I eat rice!” Several students proudly explained that sleeping helps them grow bigger. It was wonderful to hear them express their ideas and make connections between healthy habits and growth. We are looking forward to continuing our inquiry and learning more about ourselves and others in the coming weeks.

素晴らしい一週間をお過ごしになられたことと思います。

今週、私たちは新しい探究ユニット（LOI 3）「私は他の人と違う」を始めました。子どもたちは、一人ひとりを個性的に、そして特別な存在にしているものは何かを探求することにワクワクしていました。クラスでの話し合いを通して、人々が互いに異なる様々な点について話し合いました。子どもたちは、自分自身や友達について、自分の考えや気づいたことを熱心に共有してくれました。

私たちは体の大きさを比べて、みんなそれぞれ違うことに気づきました。子どもたちはクラスメートや先生と身長を比べてみました。また、髪の色や目の色など、一人ひとりを個性的にする身体的特徴についても話し合いました。

今週のハイライトの一つは、体の輪郭をなぞるアクティビティでした。子どもたちは順番に大きな新聞紙の上に寝転がり、先生が丁寧に体の輪郭をなぞってくれました。紙の上で自分の体がどれほど大きく見えるかに、子どもたちは驚いていました。その後、赤ちゃんの頃からどれだけ成長したか、そして健康で丈夫に育つために何が役立つかについて話し合いました。

子どもたちは、なぜこんなに大きくなったのかについて、熱心に意見を述べてくれました。「たくさん食べるから！」と言う子もいれば、「野菜を食べるから！」「ご飯を食べるから！」と言う子もいました。中には、睡眠をとることで大きくなれると誇らしげに説明する子もいました。子どもたちが自分の考えを表現し、健康的な習慣と成長を結びつける様子を見ることができて、とても嬉しかったです。今後数週間、探究を続け、自分自身や他者についてもっと深く学んでいくことを楽しみにしています。

ALPHABET AND SOUND RECOGNITION

This week, we learned about the letter C. We practiced recognizing the letter, learning its sound, and thinking of words that begin with it. The students did a wonderful job sharing their ideas and came up with words such as cat, cake, and caterpillar. We also looked at different pictures and identified objects whose names start with the /c/ sound.

To reinforce our learning, we enjoyed a fun and interactive Alphabet Fishing Activity using the letters A, B, and C. The children practiced saying the letter sounds and identifying the beginning sounds of different words. First, they picked a letter and then used their fishing rods to catch a picture that matched the letter’s beginning sound. Through this activity, the students were able to connect letters with sounds while strengthening their phonemic awareness and letter recognition skills.

The children were excited to take turns, and share share their answers, . They especially enjoyed the challenge of “fishing” for the pictures and were proud when they successfully matched the letters and images. It was wonderful to see them learning through play while building confidence in their early literacy skills. Great job, everyone!

アルファベットと音の認識

今週は、文字「C」について学びました。文字の認識、音の学習、そして「C」で始まる単語を考える練習をしました。子どもたちは素晴らしいアイデアを出し合い、「cat（猫）」「cake（ケーキ）」「caterpillar（毛虫）」といった単語を考え出しました。また、様々な絵を見て、「c」の音で始まる物の名前を特定しました。

学習内容を定着させるために、文字「A」「B」「C」を使った楽しく魅力的な「アルファベット釣り」アクティビティを行いました。子どもたちは文字の音を発音し、様々な単語の最初の音を識別しました。まず、文字を選び、釣り竿を使ってその文字の最初の音に合う絵を釣り上げました。このアクティビティを通して、子どもたちは文字と音を結びつけ、音韻認識能力と文字認識能力を高めることができました。

子どもたちは順番に答えを発表し、とても楽しそうでした。特に絵を「釣り上げる」というチャレンジを楽しみ、文字と絵を正しく一致させることができた時は誇らしげでした。子どもたちが遊びを通して学び、読み書きの基礎能力に自信をつけていく姿を見ることができて、本当に素晴らしかったです。皆さん、よく頑張りました！

Tomato planting in the Garden　（トマト植え）

This week, the Aurora Class participated in a fun and meaningful vegetable planting activity. This year, we planted tomatoes in our school garden! Before we began, the students listened carefully to the instructions and learned about the steps involved in planting and caring for vegetables.

The children were excited to get their hands dirty as they helped dig holes in the soil and plant the tomato seedlings. Each student had the opportunity to touch and feel the soil, giving them a hands-on learning experience and a chance to connect with nature. They eagerly worked together and showed great enthusiasm.

After planting, the students carefully watered the tomato plants and talked about what plants need to grow healthy and strong, such as water, sunlight, soil, and care. We asked the students how we can take care of our tomatoes, and they eagerly shared their ideas. Some said, “We need to water them so they can grow bigger!” Others explained that the plants will first grow green tomatoes, and that we need to continue taking care of them until they turn red and are ready to eat. It was wonderful to hear the children share their understanding of the growing process and demonstrate their curiosity about how plants develop.

Back in the classroom, we continued our discussion by learning more about tomatoes. We talked about their color, and how they grow. The children also shared whether they like eating tomatoes and how they enjoy them at home.

The students are very excited to watch their tomato plants grow and are already looking forward to harvesting them in the future. They are eager to see the tomatoes change from green to red and are especially excited about the opportunity to taste the tomatoes they have helped grow themselves. We can’t wait to observe the changes in our garden over the coming weeks!

今週、オーロラ組は楽しく有意義な野菜の植え付け活動に参加しました。今年は、学校の菜園でトマトを植えました！活動を始める前に、子どもたちは説明をよく聞き、野菜の植え付けと育て方の手順を学びました。

子どもたちは土に穴を掘ったり、トマトの苗を植えたりと、土いじりをすることにワクワクしていました。一人ひとりが土に触れ、感触を確かめることで、実践的な学習体験と自然とのつながりを感じることができました。子どもたちは協力し合い、熱心に作業に取り組みました。

植え付け後、子どもたちはトマトの苗に丁寧に水をやり、水、日光、土、そして手入れなど、植物が健康に育つために必要なことについて話し合いました。子どもたちにトマトの育て方について尋ねると、子どもたちは熱心に意見を述べてくれました。「もっと大きく育つように、水をあげなくちゃ！」と言う子もいれば、「最初は青いトマトが実るから、赤くなって食べられるようになるまで、ずっとお世話を続けなきゃいけないんだよ」と説明する子もいました。子どもたちが植物の成長過程について理解を深め、植物がどのように育つのかという好奇心を示してくれたのは、本当に素晴らしい経験でした。

教室に戻ってからは、トマトについてさらに詳しく学びました。トマトの色や成長の仕方について話し合い、子どもたちはトマトが好きかどうか、家でどのように食べているかなども話してくれました。

子どもたちはトマトの苗が育っていく様子をとても楽しみにしており、収穫の日を心待ちにしています。トマトが緑色から赤色に変わっていくのを見るのが待ち遠しく、自分たちで育てたトマトを味わえる機会を特に楽しみにしています。これから数週間、庭でどんな変化が見られるのか、今からとても楽しみです！
