It has been another busy and exciting week in Grade 4!
🌏 Wrapping Up Our Unit: Where We Are in Place and Time
We have been putting the finishing touches to our Where We Are in Place and Time unit. The children have been busy completing their posters and historical stories, bringing together everything they have learned about Nagano and how people, places and events have shaped our local communities over time. They also took time to reflect on their learning, thinking about what they discovered, what they found challenging and how their understanding has developed.
We are looking forward to building on this learning in our next unit, How We Express Ourselves, where we will explore local traditions and heritage, discovering how communities keep their stories, customs and cultural identities alive across generations.
🌙 Science Corner: Where Has the Moon Gone?
Our science investigations have turned towards the Moon! We have been learning about its changing appearance and position in the sky. I had been wondering why I hadn’t managed to spot the Moon recently, so I did a little investigating of my own. It turns out that the Moon’s rising and setting times change, and at the moment it can rise during the morning and set in the early evening.
This has given us a brilliant opportunity to start our very own Moon Diary at school! We will observe the Moon when possible, record its position and appearance, and look for patterns over time. Perhaps our young scientists will become much better at spotting the Moon than their teacher! 🔭
🎃 Halloween Preparations Are Underway!
There is a definite Halloween buzz in the classroom! Preparations are well underway, and the children have been busy making decorations to transform our learning space into something suitably spooky. The excitement is building as we add more Halloween touches, and we are looking forward to seeing all their creative ideas come together.
Expect a little more mystery, a few spooky surprises and plenty of Halloween spirit in the coming days! 👻
🏊 Back in the Pool!
After a little break, we were delighted to return to our swimming lessons this week. And this time, we ventured into the deep end!
Everyone approached the lesson with determination and gave their best effort. It was wonderful to see the children challenging themselves, building confidence and demonstrating the progress they have made. Swimming takes practice, courage and perseverance, and the children should feel proud of how they are developing their skills.
Well done, Grade 4 swimmers! 🌊
🍇 A Taste of Nagano!
And finally, a little lunchtime highlight: grapes! Woohoo! 🍇
It is such a treat to enjoy the delicious local produce available to us here in Nagano Prefecture. Living in this region gives us wonderful opportunities to appreciate seasonal fruits and vegetables, connect with local agriculture and enjoy the flavours of our surrounding countryside. From apples to grapes, there is always something delicious to look forward to!
It is a lovely reminder that learning about our local environment doesn’t just happen in the classroom. Sometimes, it comes in the form of a very welcome lunchtime snack!
🌍 Global Voices Festival: Share Your Poetry! 📝
Gojo will be hosting its Global Voices Festival on October 31st, and ISN will be contributing a special poetry wall! We would love for this to be a celebration of creativity and the power of words, and everyone is welcome to take part — students and parents alike.
Have you written a poem you would like to share? Or perhaps you have a favourite poem written by someone else that means something special to you? We would love to include it!
Please send your poems in as soon as possible so that we can forward them to Gojo in time for the festival. We hope to fill our poetry wall with a wonderful variety of voices, ideas and inspirations from our ISN community. 🌟
🎃 New Teams, New Names!
The students have been choosing names for our new teams, and in the spirit of the season, we have gone with a Halloween theme for now! 👻 The children have enjoyed coming up with spooky team names to add a little extra fun to our classroom activities.
Of course, these names are only temporary! Once Halloween is over, we will have to choose some new names ready for our Christmas performance. We probably don’t want our teams introducing themselves with spooky Halloween names at the Christmas show! 🎄😄
⭐ Looking Ahead
With our new unit on traditions and heritage approaching, our Moon Diaries beginning and Halloween excitement growing, there is plenty to look forward to in Grade 4. We are proud of the children’s hard work this week and their willingness to keep learning, trying new things and supporting one another.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! 🍂
🌏 「Where We Are in Place and Time」のユニットがいよいよ заверш盤!
次のユニットは「How We Express Ourselves(私たちはどのように自分を表現するか)」です。
10月31日に、Gojoで Global Voices Festival(グローバル・ボイス・フェスティバル) が開催されます。
