Welcome back to our first week of school after the summer vacation! We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break.
This week, we began our new Unit 3: Living Things Around Us. To tune in to our new unit, students explored the meaning of living and non-living things through worksheets, discussions, and simple experiments. These activities helped students observe and understand the differences between living and non-living things. Students also had the opportunity to conduct some research and share what they discovered. Next, we learned about biotope and biocenosis. Students learned that a biotope refers to the non-living environment and conditions in an ecosystem, while biocenosis refers to the community of living things that live in that environment. This week, students will put their understanding into practice by creating a diorama of an ecosystem of their choice.
夏休みが終わり、学校での最初の週が始まりました。みなさんが楽しく、ゆっくりと夏休みを過ごせたことを願っています。今週は、新しいユニット3「身の回りの生き物（Living Things Around Us）」を始めました。まずは、ワークシートや話し合い、簡単な実験を通して、「生き物」と「生き物ではないもの」の意味や違いについて学びました。実際に観察や実験をすることで、生き物と生き物ではないものの特徴を確認しました。また、自分たちで調べ学習を行い、発見したことをクラスで共有する機会もありました。次に、biotope（ビオトープ）とbiocenosis（生物群集）について学びました。biotopeは、生態系の中にある水、土、空気、光などの生き物ではない環境を指し、biocenosisは、その環境で暮らしている生き物の集まりを指します。今週は、これまで学んだことを活かし、それぞれが好きな生態系を選んで、ジオラマ作りにも取り組みます。
We have also started our new house arrangements! Each house is working together to design and create their very own house flag. We are excited to see the creativity, teamwork, and unique ideas that each house will bring to their flag design.
また、新しいハウス編成も始まりました！それぞれのハウスで協力しながら、自分たちのハウスを表すオリジナルのハウスフラッグをデザインしています。それぞれのハウスがどのようなアイデアやデザインを考えるのか、とても楽しみです。
