This week, the children delved deeper into the line of inquiry 3 by having a hands-on pancake-making and tasting experience.The children first reviewed the ingredients for making pancakes namely: pancake flour, milk, eggs and some honey. The children observed with excitement as the ingredients were measured, mixed and beat into pancake batter. They carefully watched the batter scooped into the hotplate and cooked. They were called upon to have an even closer look. The most exciting part came when the children were invited to taste the pancakes! Eventhough they were eager to have their share, they waited patiently to served. Some showed their preference by asking for a drop of honey for a topping whilst others said , ” I don’t like it.” They had this with milk for snack.This experience provided a meaningful opportunity for the children to connect their learning about animals and the products we get from them with a familiar everyday food. More importantly, it encouraged curiosity, observation, communication and learning through a real-life experience.
今週は、LOI 3の学びをさらに深めるため、パンケーキ作りと試食を楽しみました！まずは、パンケーキ作りに使う材料をみんなで確認しました。パンケーキミックス、牛乳、卵、そしてはちみつです。先生が材料を量ったり、混ぜたり、泡立てたりする様子を、子どもたちは興味津々で見ていました。ホットプレートに生地が流し込まれると、焼けていく様子をじっくり観察。「もっと近くで見てみよう！」と、さらに近くで見てみる場面もありました。そして、いよいよ一番のお楽しみ、パンケーキの試食です！みんな早く食べたい気持ちでいっぱいでしたが、自分の順番が来るまで上手に待つことができました。はちみつを少しかけてほしいと伝える子もいれば、「I don’t like it.（好きじゃない）」と、自分の好みを言葉で伝える子もいました。パンケーキは牛乳と一緒に、おやつとしておいしくいただきました。今回の体験を通して、子どもたちは、動物から得られるものについて学んできたことを、身近な食べ物と結びつけて考えることができました。実際に「見る・触れる・作る・味わう」という体験を通して、好奇心を持つこと、よく観察すること、自分の考えや気持ちを伝えることなど、さまざまな学びにつながる貴重な時間となりました。
Building on this hands-on exploration, the children also had an exciting opportunity of using a pencil for the very first time. They were first shown how to hold a pencil and then invited to complete a simple matching exercise as part of our assessment to see how much they had acquired through Line of Inquiry 3. Although the activity was new to many of them, they approached it with enthusiasm and did their very best. There were a few scribbles on some of the sheets, which was natural as the children are still developing their pencil control and fine-motor skills. What was particularly encouraging was that, even when their marks were not always clear on the paper, the children were still able to accurately communicate and identify what they were expected to do. We heard them say statements like “Cow give milk”, “Bees have honey”, “Chickens have eggs”, “Sheep give wool.”This showed that their understanding was developing, even as their ability to record their thinking on paper is still emerging. It was wonderful to see them take on this new challenge with such determination.
こうした実体験での学びをさらに深めながら、今週は、子どもたちにとって初めてとなる「鉛筆を使う活動」にも挑戦しました。まずは、鉛筆の持ち方を先生と一緒に確認し、その後、LOI 3でこれまで学んできたことをどのくらい身につけているかを確認するため、簡単なマッチング活動に取り組みました。初めて経験する子も多い活動でしたが、子どもたちは興味を持って取り組み、一人ひとりが一生懸命頑張りました。中には、紙いっぱいに線や丸を描く姿も見られましたが、これは鉛筆をコントロールする力や、指先を上手に使う力が、まさに育っている途中だからこその自然な姿です。特に嬉しかったのは、紙の上に描かれたものがまだはっきりしていない場合でも、「何をするのか」をしっかり理解し、自分の言葉で伝えられていたことです。

「Sheep give wool.（羊はウールをくれるよ）」
（※子どもたちの実際の言葉を引用）このような子どもたちの言葉から、動物とそこから得られるものについての理解が少しずつ深まっていることが伝わってきました。まだ自分の考えを紙に記録する力は育っている途中ですが、「わかっていること」と「紙に表すこと」の両方が、少しずつ成長していることを感じることができました。新しいことにも「やってみよう！」という気持ちで挑戦する子どもたちの姿が、とても頼もしく感じられた一週間でした。
Our little athletes then took part in the much-anticipated Sports Festival, with the exciting “Pawsome Helpers Run,” where they raced with great enthusiasm and determination. They also delighted us with a fantastic dance performance, “Helping Paws,” dressed in their outstanding costumes. One of interesting thing of the day was seeing their mums, dads and other family members join in with some of the activities.
Some children found it difficult to wait before joining their parents on the other side, and a few tears were shed. With reassurance and support, however, they soon returned to enjoying the excitement of the festival. The biggest smiles came at the end when every child received their well-deserved medal, proudly posed for photographs and celebrated their achievement. It was a wonderful celebration filled with teamwork and joy.

そして今週は、みんなが楽しみにしていたSports Festival（運動会）にも参加しました！
子どもたちは、「Pawsome Helpers Run」で元気いっぱいに走り、一人ひとりが最後まで一生懸命頑張りました。また、素敵な衣装を身につけて披露した「Helping Paws」のダンスでは、かわいらしく、そして堂々と踊る姿を見せてくれました。
当日は、お母さんやお父さん、そしてご家族の皆さまが一緒に参加してくださったことも、子どもたちにとって嬉しい思い出のひとつとなりました。
中には、おうちの方と一緒に活動できるのを楽しみにするあまり、順番を待つことが少し難しく、涙が出てしまう子もいました。それでも、先生たちに励ましてもらったり、安心できるよう声をかけてもらったりすることで、少しずつ気持ちを切り替え、再び運動会を楽しむことができました。
そして最後のお楽しみは、頑張ったみんなへのメダル！一人ひとりがメダルを受け取ると、とびきりの笑顔を見せてくれました。誇らしそうにメダルを手に写真撮影をする姿からも、「頑張った！」という達成感が伝わってきました。
友だちや先生、ご家族の皆さまと一緒に、「協力すること」「応援すること」「最後まで頑張ること」を楽しんだ、素敵な一日となりました。
子どもたちの成長をたくさん感じることができた、思い出いっぱいの一週間でした！
