My Color Monster-Aurora(October 13-17)

Hello dear parents and friends!

The weather wasn’t on our side for our much-awaited bus trip, as the rain kept us from heading outdoors. However, that didn’t stop our little learners from having a wonderful and exciting day together!

Instead of enjoying outdoor activities, we stayed indoors and had fun in the music room. Our learners participated in the activity and enjoyed playing dodgeball. Since our little ones love playing with balls, they were full of energy, laughter, and excitement as they played together!

One of the most exciting moments of the day was lunchtime! Our learners couldn’t wait to enjoy the delicious packed lunches lovingly prepared by their parents. To make it feel like a real outdoor picnic, we spread our leisure sheets on the floor and sat together to enjoy our meals. Everyone was so happy to share this special lunchtime with their friends!

Although the weather changed our plans, we still made wonderful memories together. Our little learners had a blast, and their smiles made the day extra special!

The Color Monster

This week, our little learners explored different feelings and emotions through the story The Color Monster by Anna Llenas. In the story, the Color Monster feels confused because all his emotions are mixed up! With the help of a friend, he begins to identify and sort his feelings by matching them with different colors. Yellow represents happiness, blue represents sadness, red represents anger, black represents fear, green represents calmness and pink represents love.

As we revisited the different colors and feelings in the story, our little learners had fun showing their facial expressions. We asked them to imagine how their faces would look when they felt happy, sad, angry, scared, or calm.

Ms. Sayuri drew different facial expressions on the board to show how we look when we feel happy, sad, angry, scared, and other emotions. Our little learners carefully observed each expression and then created their own drawings of the Color Monster, showing how they felt that day. It was wonderful to see them use their imagination and creativity to express their emotions through their drawings! They also practiced expressing themselves using the sentence starters, “I feel sad because…”, “I feel happy because…”, and “I’m scared because…”

Some children connected their feelings to their own experiences, saying, “I feel sad because it is raining!” and “I feel happy because my mom made a packed lunch for me.” Another little learner imagined a spooky situation and said, “I’m scared because the monster is coming!”

STROLL TO THE PARK

Our little learners chose the park they wanted to visit, and we enjoyed a lovely stroll while taking in the beautiful signs of autumn along the way. 🍂

At the park, the children expressed themselves through play and movement! They had fun chasing one another, climbing on the play structures, and laughing as some of them were chased by their teacher, who pretended to be a monster. It was wonderful to see how naturally they expressed their feelings. When they were happy, they laughed out loud; when they felt scared of the monster, their eyes and mouths opened wide in surprise; and when they were excited, they jumped with their hands raised high and big smiles on their faces!

What a joyful way to explore our feelings through real-life experiences and playful interactions! Please have a glimpse of how our little learners express themselves. 😊

Our Calm-Down Corner 🌈

We created a Calm-Down Corner in one area of our classroom and explained the rules to our little learners. They can use this space whenever they feel sad, angry, overexcited, or simply need some quiet time.

They can choose to read a book, hug a pillow, take deep breaths, sit quietly, squeeze a soft toy, or practice Rainbow Breathing. When they feel calm and ready, they can return to their seats or rejoin their friends.

We practiced Rainbow Breathing by breathing in and out while tracing the arrows. This simple exercise can help children relax and manage their feelings. Please try practicing Rainbow Breathing at home, too! 💕

Thank you so much, dear parents, for preparing all the items our little learners needed for their bus trip! Your support helped make the day special. The children were so excited and happily enjoyed eating their lunch boxes during our indoor lunch time. It was lovely to see their big smiles! 💕

Wishing you and your little ones a relaxing and happy weekend. Remember to take a deep breath and enjoy some calm moments together! 🌈😊
