HOW DOES MUSIC MAKE US FEEL?- Aurora (October 5-9)

Hello dear parents and friends!

This week, we excitedly began our Unit 3 inquiry about feelings! To spark our learners’ curiosity, we prepared a music provocation by playing different types of music and observing how they responded. We carefully recorded their comments, facial expressions, body movements, and reactions as they explored how music can make us feel different emotions.

When we played a happy song, our learners immediately began jumping, smiling, dancing, and moving around with excitement. Some enthusiastically exclaimed, “It’s fun!” and “I’m happy!” Their cheerful expressions and energetic movements showed us how the music brought out feelings of joy and excitement.

When the sad music began to play, the atmosphere changed. Some learners said, “I want to cry!” while others made sad faces and became quiet. One learner shared, “I feel very sad hearing this music!” It was interesting to see how the same group of learners responded differently to the music and expressed their feelings in their own ways.

Next, we introduced a spooky horror theme song! Many learners covered their faces and called out, “Stop it!” Some used their hands to make ghost-like gestures and pretended to be ghosts, while others expressed their feelings by saying, “I feel scared!” Their reactions gave us wonderful opportunities to observe how children recognize and express feelings such as fear.

Finally, we played some angry-sounding music. Our learners stomped their feet, frowned, and made fierce facial expressions to show what anger might look and feel like. Some even made intense, angry-looking eyes as they acted out the emotion. Through their body language and expressions, they showed us their own interpretations of what it means to feel angry.

Throughout this provocation, we discovered that music can influence our feelings, and everyone may express their emotions differently. Some learners responded through words, while others communicated through facial expressions, gestures, and body movements. Their spontaneous comments and reactions provided valuable insights into their prior knowledge and understanding of feelings.

This was just the beginning of our exciting inquiry! We look forward to exploring the different feelings we experience, what causes these feelings, and how we can express them in different ways. We are excited to see where our learners’ curiosity will lead us next!

Learning the Letter L!

This week, our learners also explored the letter L! Before starting the activity, they listened carefully to the teacher’s instructions and followed the steps one at a time. Some learners were able to identify words that begin with the letter L, such as lion, ladybug, and lemon.

After sharing their ideas, the learners practiced tracing the letter L and coloring the pictures. This activity helped them become more familiar with the letter’s shape and sound while developing their fine motor skills. It also gave us an opportunity to observe how well they listened to and followed instructions, as well as how independently they completed each step.

Getting Ready for Halloween! 🎃

October is here, and our learners are getting excited for our upcoming Halloween event! Every day, we practice our Halloween song, and the children have fun imitating the sounds of different Halloween characters. Their enthusiasm grows as they sing along, make spooky sounds, and get into the Halloween spirit!

We also explored how costumes can help us express our feelings and imagine ourselves as different characters. In the classroom, the children stood behind our handmade Halloween costume boards and peeked through the openings to transform themselves into Japanese princesses and ninjas. They enjoyed pretending to be these characters and imagining what it might feel like to become someone different.

Through this playful experience, our learners had opportunities to use their imagination, express themselves, and explore how dressing up can help us communicate different feelings and ideas. We can already feel their excitement building as we count down to Halloween!

Gym Day

As the weather gets cooler, our learners continue to enjoy their gym lessons! They have fun moving their bodies, practicing their skills, and staying active. Please enjoy a glimpse of our little learners in action through these photos!

Thank you for another wonderful week! The weather is getting cooler, so please stay warm and healthy. We hope you have a relaxing weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone on our bus trip next week. We hope all our learners can join us for our adventure! Have a lovely weekend!
