Nakano Grade 5 Inspires Younger Students to Help Protect Our Planet (July 21st-23rd)

Our Grade 5 students proudly concluded their Unit of Inquiry by presenting their Environmental Campaign to students in Grades 1, 2, and 4. Over the past two months, they had been exploring how relationships within ecosystems influence the survival and well-being of living things and discovering that everyone has a role to play in protecting our planet.

As part of their final project, the students wrote a persuasive essay to encourage others to take action for the environment. They used facts and examples from their learning to explain why protecting nature is so important. During their presentations, they confidently shared their ideas with their audience and ended with a heartfelt call to action:

“The Earth needs our help. Please help us today!”

To reinforce their message, the students also created eye-catching posters promoting simple but meaningful ways to care for the environment. These posters will soon be displayed around the school to continue inspiring our community to make environmentally friendly choices every day.

In addition to their campaign, the students have continued to care for the soybean plants they planted earlier this term. Every morning, they water their plants and measure their growth, observing firsthand how living things depend on care, water, and suitable conditions to thrive. This daily responsibility helped them connect their classroom learning with real-life action and deepen their understanding of how our choices affect the environment.

We are incredibly proud of our Grade 5 students for demonstrating responsibility, confidence, and compassion throughout this unit. Their campaign showed that even small actions can make a meaningful difference, and that young people have the power to inspire others to care for our planet.
